What's new in MessageSave 7.0.10.2710

May 10, 2019
  • Support for Outlook 2019:
  • Version 7 now officially supports Outlook 2019. Office 365 is also fully supported with the desktop version of Outlook.
  • Discontinued support for Outlook 2007:
  • Outlook 2007 is no longer supported.
  • Include Attachments Inline In PDF:
  • Version 6 had an option to attach message attachments to PDF file as attachments in their original format. Version 7 also supports including email attachments as extra pages at the end of the PDF. The following attachment types are supported: docx, doc, rtf, txt, xlsx, xls, pdf, jpg, png, gif. (Requires the Pro edition).
  • Saving Attachments As Separate Files:
  • Up until now, MessageSave would always save the entire message, including any attachments in the same file. This version introduces an option to also save attachments as separate files. (Requires the Ultimate edition).
  • New File Explorer Columns:
  • Version 7 supports the following additional File Explorer columns when saving MSG files - Date Received, Date Sent, Priority.
  • New File Naming Template Fields:
  • The following new File Naming Template fields are supported
  • M_SUBJF200 - first 200 characters of the email subject. (The existing token M_SUBJ uses first 80 characters).
  • M_CA, M_C1, M_CSA, M_CS1 - message categories.
  • M_TR_MMM, M_TR_MMMM, M_TS_MMM, M_TS_MMMM - month full name or name abbreviation. For example, “January” or “Jan”.
  • New Template Field Modifier:
  • We have added a new template field modifier - “RS”. It removes spaces from the corresponding field. For example
  • %M_SUBJ[RS]% - removes spaces from the subject.
  • %M_SUBJ[RS_]% - replaces spaces with underscores.
  • Skip Unsent Messages Filter:
  • The filter window now supports “skip unsent messages”.
  • Unmap This Folder Command:
  • New command - Unmap This Folder, to match Map This Folder.
  • Window Position And Size:
  • Previous versions of MessageSave would always position windows, like Save Messages, in the middle of its parent window. In v7, if you move a MessageSave window, the new position will be remembered for the future. Next time you open the same window, it will be displayed in the same position.
  • Improved Support For Different Monitor Resolutions:
  • The Window Position and Size logic, described above, works correctly even if you move between environments with different monitor resolutions or different number of monitors.
  • An Ability To Hide UI Commands:
  • The Ultimate edition now allows system administrators to hide some commands, such as “Check for Updates” or “Advanced Options”, for their deployment. (Requires the Ultimate edition. Controlled via ADMX template).
  • Force Save and Send:
  • A new option to disable “Send Only” in the “Save and Send” window, to force users save all sent messages. (Requires the Ultimate edition. Controlled via ADMX template).
  • Cleanup Mapped Folders:
  • New Mapped Folders Cleanup commands simplify keeping your folder mappings up to date.
  • Other changes:
  • By popular demand, we have added the do not auto create folders option.
  • The Mapped Folders window is now resizable.
  • An option to not remember the last used custom field value. At this time, it can only be enabled via the registry. If you require this feature, ask us for instructions.
  • Numerous enhancements and bug fixes.

New in MessageSave 6.0.3.653 (Jun 23, 2016)

  • Overview:
  • Welcome to MessageSave 6. This document outlines new features and enhancements which make the product you have come to rely on for saving, archiving, backing up and processing Outlook email messages even more powerful.
  • QuickSave:
  • If you have been using our SimplyFile product, you know how powerful folder suggestions are. With SimplyFile, you simply click a button to file a message in the right Outlook folder, instead of using tedious and error-prone drag and drop.
  • In version 5, we have integrated the same folder prediction technology that powers SimplyFile. Instead of suggesting an Outlook destination folder, like in SimplyFile, MessageSave suggests file system destination folders (see Smart Suggestions). However, in version 5, you still had to open the Save Messages window. In version 6, you can save files even faster by clicking on a QuickSave button.
  • Setting Profiles:
  • In previous versions, MessageSave supported only two sets of settings - one for received messages, the other for the “Save and Send” operation. In version 6, we are introducing a concept of Setting Profiles. A Setting Profile is a collection of settings, such as File Naming Template, File Format, Actions, etc. You can create as many Setting Profiles as you would like and quickly switch between them as necessary.
  • Setting Profiles are also very useful for creating Folder Mappings. You can create a profile once and reuse it for different Folder Mappings, without having to individually configure settings for each folder.
  • QuickPick:
  • Another very popular SimplyFile feature made its way into MessageSave. If you use SimplyFile, you know how powerful its QuickPick window is - you can find any folder with just a few keystrokes. MessageSave now has QuickPick of its own.
  • Tip:
  • For a more fully featured version of this functionality, try QuickJump.
  • QuickPick can also be used to scan your folders and quickly build a list of locations for future use. That list can be shared with other users or centrally deployed to all users in an organization. See QuickPick window.
  • PDF format support:
  • MessageSave 6 supports saving messages in PDF format, in addition to MSG. You can select PDF format on the Format tab of the Edit Profile window.
  • File Name Template enhancements:
  • We added two new template token qualifiers - IW and W1.
  • IW modifies a token to use the first letter of each word. For example, %M_S_N[IW]% uses only initials of the sender name.
  • W1 modifies a token to use only the first word of the field. For example, %M_SUBJ[W1]% uses only the first word of the message subject.
  • You can configure File Naming template on the Naming Tab of the Edit Profile window.
  • MSG file import:
  • MessageSave now supports importing MSG files back into Outlook. An entire folder tree can be imported, preserving folder structure. See Import MSG files into Outlook
  • New actions:
  • New “after save” actions are supported. Mark as read, assigning a category, delete into Deleted Items folder. See the Actions tab of the Edit Profile window.
  • Additional Windows Explorer column support:
  • We have added support for the following email-specific columns in Windows
  • Explorer:
  • Date Modified - message received date.
  • Sender name - message sender.
  • Subject - message subject.
  • To - message To recipients.
  • Cc - message Cc recipients.
  • Categories - message categories.
  • Has attachments - indicates whether the message contains attachments.
  • Configuration Export/Import:
  • MessageSave now supports an ability to export configuration settings, such as Folder Mappings, Profiles, Destination Folder List, and import them on another computer.
  • For large installations we support an option to automatically deploy exported configuration to client workstations.
  • Discontinued support for Outlook 2003.
  • Outlook 2003 is no longer supported. Some of the new MessageSave 6 features, such as PDF support require Outlook 2010 or newer.
  • Outlook rule support is deprecated
  • Microsoft has removed custom rule action functionality from recent versions of Outlook. As a workaround, you can use MessageSave scheduler.
  • Non-admin installer and upgrades:
  • Unlike previous versions, MessageSave 6 default EXE installer does not require Administrator permissions and can be installed under a regular user account. If you previously installed using the EXE installer, we recommend that you uninstall version 5 prior to upgrading to version 6. (If you do not know which installer you used, you most likely used EXE).
  • We still provide an admin installer (MSI) for large scale deployment. That process has not changed. Version 6 MSI installer can be installed on top of version 5, without uninstalling.
  • Other changes:
  • “Map this folder” command.
  • Remember the last used custom field value.
  • Plain text files (txt) are saved using UTF8 encoding.
  • Numerous enhancements and bug fixes.

New in MessageSave 5.0.0.504 (Jan 12, 2012)

  • Smart Destination Folder Suggestions"
  • If you have been using our SimplyFile product, you know how powerful folder suggestions are. With SimplyFile, you simply click a button to file a message in the right Outlook folder, instead of using tedious and error-prone drag and drop
  • We have integrated the same folder suggestion algorithm that powers SimplyFile into MessageSave 5.0. Instead of suggesting an Outlook destination folder, like in SimplyFile, MessageSave suggests file system destination folders. Folder suggestions are enabled by default. MessageSave will learn where you file messages and after a brief training period will start suggesting relevant folders
  • Mapped Folders:
  • Mapped Folders feature allows to you specify a corresponding destination folder for a particular Outlook folder. This way you can maintain configurations where Outlook folder tree does not match your file system destination folder tree
  • AutoSave:
  • AutoSave allows you to have MessageSave watch the Outlook folders you specify and automatically save new messages added to these Outlook folders to the corresponding destination folders
  • File Name Templates:
  • In previous versions of MessageSave, it was very easy to have MessageSave add extra fields to the file names it saves. For example, you would check a box, to automatically append values like Sender Name or Message Date to the file name or folder name. That simplicity did not allow to configure things which are a bit more advanced. For example, rearrange field order, use a different format for date or time
  • File Name Templates address that issue. Now you can use the Advanced Naming Options Window to create a file and folder name patter as flexible as you would like. See File Name Templates for details on template syntax
  • An Ability to Configure Scheduled Folders:
  • In previous versions, the Scheduler would always process your entire mailbox. Now you can specify which folders you like to have processed by the Scheduler. See the Scheduler Tab for details
  • Much Simpler Scheduling:
  • MessageSave 5.0 has significantly simplified the way to configure when to run the scheduler. Instead of using Windows Task Scheduler, it now uses a custom scheduling window
  • If you used Scheduler in older versions of MessageSave, you will need to reconfigure it after you upgrade to version 5.0
  • Outlook 2010 Ribbon UI Support:
  • As you know, Outlook 2010 introduced a significant change in the User Interface - The Ribbon. MessageSave is now available as a button on the Ribbon Home tab
  • The button is very compact, so it takes up little valuable Ribbon space, yet very functional. It consists of two parts
  • The Save Messages command is also available on the right-click context menu when you select one or more messages in the main Outlook window
  • Prompt to Save Received Messages:
  • In addition to an ability to prompt you to save messages you save, MessageSave has an option to prompt to save messages you receive. The prompt is shown when you close a message window after reading a message. This prompt is not available when you use Outlook Reading Pane to read messages
  • You can enable this option on the General Tab of the Advanced Options window
  • Streamlined installation:
  • You no longer have to download a separate full version when you purchase a license. The trial version is turned into a full version by entering a license key
  • Discontinued support for Outlook 2000 and 2002:
  • MessageSave 5.0 supports Outlook 2003, 2007 and 2010 (both 32 and 64 bit). If you are still using and older version of Outlook, Contact our Sales Department to order a MessageSave 4.0 license
  • Unicode MSG format:
  • By default, MessageSave 5.0 uses Unicode MSG format. Unicode MSG files can be opened in Outlook 2003 or newer
  • Important
  • If you need to be able to open the MSG files you save in older versions of Outlook (2000 and 2002), there is an option to use non-Unicode format, which is compatible with all versions of Outlook. Contact our Support Department for details
  • New User Guide:
  • We have rewritten the User Guide from scratch. (This document is a part of it). The new User Guide includes expanded content, better navigation, search and index, so you can quickly and easily locate the information you are looking for
