MetaGuide Changelog

What's new in MetaGuide 5.4.9 Beta

Jul 5, 2020
  • Bug fixes and more debug info. Please use this version!

New in MetaGuide 5.4.6 Beta (Jan 5, 2020)

  • Fixed a problem with Save Image taking a long time. Please use Save Image because it annotates the image with important info.
  • Fixed a problem with calibration working on both sides of the meridian

New in MetaGuide 5.4.4 (May 5, 2019)

  • New behavior: The only supported mode for guiding is now ASCOM. There is no direct guiding control through camera st4 ports - and if you need to guide via st4 you will need an ASCOM driver for it.
  • The dec. backlash and reversal settings are now in arc-seconds rather than seconds - so be sure to check the values and adjust
  • There is new documentation, but a key feature is the use of ROI with ASI1600 and other cameras. Simply enter smaller values for CamWidth and CamHeight in the Setup dialog - such as 1024 and 768. The actual values selected for the camera may end up different, but it will be smaller than full screen and allow much higher frame rate. To move the ROI window around, go to VidProps and select the ROI tab - and drag the window as you wish. See the MG help file for an example.
  • Many more messages emitted and received - for better interfacing with other apps. etc.
  • Many performance enhancements and bug fixes

New in MetaGuide 5.4.2 Beta (Apr 28, 2019)

  • Many enhancements and improved performance!
  • Rotator angle support. Calibrate once, then change rotator angle and guide without recalibration
  • Permanent hot pixel storage and improved hot pixel detection
  • Improved interaction with Sequence Generator Pro (SGP) including dithering and automatic focus while imaging and guiding
  • Automatic handling of meridian flip
  • Support for FlexRX tool to correct for flexure when using a guidescope.
  • SEEING measurement
  • FOCUS dialog

New in MetaGuide 5.3.2 Beta (Aug 2, 2018)

  • Replaced NFrames with StackTime – which is much easier to understand
  • Removed need to center the star for calibration
  • Automatic connect to ASCOM mount and load prev. calibration at start
  • Many more ways to control from remote application
  • Retain calibration when changing OAG or rotation angle
  • Dither only in RA (not recommended, but possible)
  • Many bug fixes, including better connection to recent cameras with large pixel count – e.g. ASI183

New in MetaGuide 5.2.18 Beta (Apr 5, 2018)

  • Enter wavelength for exact diffraction pattern with a given filter
  • Rotator angle support. Calibrate guiding once and change rotator angle without a new calibration
  • Permanent hot pixel storage and improved hot pixel detection
  • Improved interaction with Sequence Generator Pro (SGP) for dithering and automatic focusing while imaging and guiding
  • Automatic handling of meridian flips - no need to recalibrate or press buttons
  • Improved connection to video cameras
  • Support for FlexRX
  • Improved dithering support with settable radius in arc-seconds
  • Many performance enhancements and bug fixes
  • New SEEING measurement turns your telescope into a seeing monitor
  • New FOCUS dialog with novel audio feedback
  • More accurate centroiding
  • More sensitive collimation, for low coma designs such as Edge, CDK, RC, etc.
  • Many performance enhancements and bug fixes
  • Support for AstroGene and TOGA autoguide controllers with hardware timing

New in MetaGuide 5.2.6 (Apr 5, 2018)

  • Direct support of ASCOM mounts with late binding (no need for generic hub)
  • Automatic handling of meridian flip with no recalibration
  • Improved handling of video cameras
  • Support for the NEW FlexRX tool to allow dynamic correction of flexure when guiding with a guidescope – EVEN when imaging moving comets
  • Support for the new QHY5L-II guider and its st4 guideport
  • Support for the new ASI cameras with st4 guideports
  • Dither Radius is now settable
  • Live measurement and plots of seeing based on 2-second images of a star
  • Greatly improved performance and connectivity with many cameras
  • Improved centroiding for better collimation and guiding
  • FITS output of the scene, including realtime aligned/stacked deep sky
  • Guide logs now output 39 columns of variables every ½ second for detailed analysis of mount/gear behavior
  • Focus dialog with audio feedback on the star fwhm, and a large plot of intensity/fwhm visible from a distance
