Musicnizer Changelog

What's new in Musicnizer 10.2 Build 608

Aug 17, 2021
  • New engine:
  • The new version of Musicnizer is built upon a new internal engine, which is why it works faster than previous releases. This also opens new opportunities for further development.
  • It is now possible to retrieve and edit lyrics saved in audio files:
  • Musicnizer 10 can automatically retrieve lyrics saved in audio files (ID3 tags and other) and save it in the database. You can view or hide lyrics associated with certain songs by clicking the "+" / "-" buttons next to the song's title on the album's page. Lyrics can be edited quite easily by clicking the corresponding icon.
  • Pictures can be downloaded via HTTPS:
  • As many modern sites switched to serving all content via the secure HTTP connections (HTTPS), older versions of Musicnizer stopped downloading some content, including certain pictures (for example, in search results). Musicnizer 10 includes full support for HTTPS and can download details that were unreachable by previous versions.
  • Automatically suggest the best match when typing into lists:
  • When editing information about albums or artists, you can select various values from lists. For example, artists of the album, locations, etc. However, if a list contains more than a few entries, you may need to scroll up and down to locate the correct entry. Musicnizer 10 provide an alternative solution: you can simply type a few letters into the field, and the program will automatically scroll the list to the matching entries.
  • Quick filter for artists:
  • The quick filter feature was initially introduced for albums only. However, at some point Musicnizer got custom fields and lists for artists, too. This made it reasonable for artists to acquire quick filters. Musicnizer 10 introduces this feature. Now, when you switch the main list to the "Artists" tab, the "Quick filter" menu automatically adjusts its entries.
  • Highlight any phrase and search for it on Google:
  • A small convenience feature in Musicnizer 10 allows you to learn more about any small detail of a description, biography, etc. by highlighting the phrase in question and choosing to look up it on Google.
  • Selecting printer when printing the current page:
  • If you have several hardware / software printers installed in your system, you can now easily select the one you want to print with when using the "Print current page" feature.
  • Updated and revised scripts:
  • Musicnizer uses open source scripts to download information from the Internet and to display details from its database (interface themes). Musicnizer comes with updated scripts that enable various new features and improvements.
  • [*] One-click group operations:
  • Group operations enable selecting multiple entries (albums / artists) for editing, information update, export, and so on. In Musicnizer, you can enable Group operations easier. Just put the mouse cursor over a cover in the list and click the check box.
  • New settings window:
  • The window with all settings of the program was redesigned to provide a clear hierarchical overview. Now you can select category on the left and see all related settings in the main area on the right.
  • Collection tab is now a view:
  • The Collection view offers a lot of ways to sort and filter your music collection, and you can easily add your own ones. Previous versions of Musicnizer included a special tab that you could switch the main list to. In Musicnizer, the tab was replaced with a button at the bottom of the list. Now you can choose between the tree view (collection), detailed view (the default one) and cover view.
  • Fixed bugs:
  • Musicnizer 10 has lots of other small improvements and bug fixes.

New in Musicnizer 8.1 Build 470 (Dec 24, 2016)

  • Artists now have a sorting field.
  • The report builder can add the date when the report is created.
  • User comments / reviews can now be downloaded from the internet.
  • Extended filters are capable of defining their own sorting rules.
  • In the Dune HD catalog, a new category is available - location.
  • Fixed bugs.

New in Musicnizer 8.0 Build 450 (Sep 22, 2015)

  • It is now possible to specify, whether a particular artist is a band or a person:
  • Previous versions of Musicnizer handled all artists in the same way. In Musicnizer 8.0, you can specify whether an artist is a person or a band. Depending on this artist type, the program will show different controls and text labels.
  • For bands, members can be listed. For persons, you can add all bands the person participated in:
  • Another important feature of Musicnizer 8.0 is its ability to connect groups and persons. Now it is possible to set persons as members of groups. You can add members on the "General" tab of the "Edit info" window for a group. The other way around, you can add groups where a particular person took part in the "Edit info" window for the person. These methods are equivalent. On the pages of the corresponding groups, the person will appear as a member.
  • Download scripts try to recognize artist types (person or band), where it is possible, and to download information about band members:
  • Artist type and information about line-ups can be entered manually. However, when you download information about artists from the internet, Musicnizer will do its best to detect the correct artist type and to find group members. This feature may depend on the information source that you use.
  • For each album, multiple artists can be specified:
  • While Musicnizer supported multiple album artists from its very first version, its controls suggested to select only one artist per album. Musicnizer 8.0 allows adding and saving multiple artists for each album. Click the green plus button next to the "Artists" field to add an artist.
  • If tags of audio files have changed, you can update information in Musicnizer by loading the new tags:
  • When you add albums from audio files, Musicnizer scans tags of the files and saves information to its database. However, after creating your Musicnizer database, you may decide to correct tags using a tag editor program. Then, an update to your Musicnizer database will be required to load the corrected tags. With Musicnizer 8.0, you can update tags by clicking the "Refresh" button next to the track list.
  • The Publisher field in tags of music files is now supported. Information from this field is saved to the Label field of the database:
  • In addition to the usual set of tags, Musicnizer 8.0 supports the "Publisher" field. When you scan your music files, information from this field is saved to the "Label" field of your Musicnizer database.
  • You can allow the program to create new discs/editions according to the "Disc number" field from the tags of your audio files:
  • In Musicnizer, each album may have several discs. These discs may represent different CDs in albums that contain multiple CDs, or different editions of the same album.
  • When you scan music files, Musicnizer reads information from their tags. However, previous versions of the program disregarded information from the disc number field and created multiple CDs only if the corresponding files were stored in different subfolders (like CD1, CD2, etc.). In Musicnizer 8.0, there is an option that allows to take the disc number field into account (you can find it in the File Scanner Settings window). This option may be helpful if your files from multiple CDs have correct disc numbers in their tags and are stored in the same folder.
  • In the Cover search window, the name of the corresponding artist can be used:
  • When you search for additional album covers, Musicnizer automatically uses some information about the album from your database. In particular, album title and year are used. Musicnizer 8.0 improves cover search by adding the name of the artist to the search request.
  • In the Cover search window, the "Save as back covers" button was added:
  • Now you can save additional images as album covers or back covers.
  • Musicnizer learned how to calculate album rating using existing track ratings:
  • In Musicnizer, you can rate individual songs or complete albums. Album rating is shown under the main cover. In previous versions, track ratings and album ratings were independent. In Musicnizer 8.0, you can derive album ratings from track ratings.
  • When you delete an album or an artist, the program shows a confirmation prompt:
  • To prevent deleting albums and artists by mistake, Musicnizer 8.0 asks for a confirmation. You can disable confirmations on the "General" tab of the "Options" window (F10).
  • The Music Collector plugin can now import your music collection from several files:
  • If you have a pretty big music database in Movie Collector, the program may split it into several XML files. The new version of the Music Collector import plugin can process such files and import them into a single Musicnizer database.
  • There are several improvements in how information downloads are canceled, when you work with several albums or artists:
  • If you click the "Cancel" buttons when information about albums or artists is being downloaded, Musicnizer 8.0 will quit downloading much faster, compared to previous versions. Additionally, it acknowledges that the button was clicked with a message.
  • Changes in the algorithm of getting photos of artists when creating a Dune music catalog. Now the program uses the photo you set as the main one in Musicnizer:
  • If you use Musicnizer to create illustrated music catalogs for your Dune HD media player, you might have noticed that the program sometimes used different photos of artists, not the one specified by you in the program. This behavior was changed in Musicnizer 8.0. Now the program always takes your main photo. You can change the main photo by dragging your favorite photo to the leftmost position on the "Pictures" tab of the "Edit info" window for the artist.
  • Fixed bugs:
  • Musicnizer 8.0 contains other small improvements and bug fixes.

New in Musicnizer 7.2 Build 429 (Sep 18, 2014)

  • Added extended filters for albums and artists. Such filters can be created in a special window or from search results:
  • While you can use the Quick filter menu to display all albums with a certain property, the menu has a limited number of pre-defined entries, and it is not possible to create further conditions. Musicnizer 7.2 offers a new feature that is similar to Quick filters, but is fully customizable. It's extended filters that you find at the top of the "Albums" and "Artists" tabs
  • It is now possible to filter by bitrate. This option is available in the extended filters:
  • When you add music albums from audio files, Musicnizer reads technical parameters of the files and saves them into its database. You can use these parameters (in particular, bitrate) to filter your albums. For example, you may want to replace low bitrate songs with their copies in better quality.
  • On the collection tab, you can select an item and download information for all albums of the item:
  • The "Collection" tab allows creating various sorting rules for your collection. It is also can be used for filtering. For example, you can select an item sorted in the desired order and export or print albums from it using Reports.
  • In Musicnizer 7.2 you can also download information for all albums of the selected Collection item
  • A new image type, CD label, was added:
  • Musicnizer can manage various types of images, including cover, back cover, images added by the user. In the new version, a further type was added: CD label.
  • Pictures from the program can be easily saved to any folder of your computer:
  • It is now possible to save any picture from the program to a local folder. In the built-in image viewer, click the floppy disk button.
  • Alternatively, you can save pictures from the "Pictures" tab of the "Edit info" window for the album / person.
  • When adding music albums from files, you can now select or unselect just highlighted files / folders:
  • When you add albums from audio files, you may want to select a limited number of folders for better control. In previous versions of Musicnizer, you could select or unselect entire folders with all nested folders at once. Musicnizer 7.2 offers more flexibility: now you can easily highlight the folders / files you want to add and click a button to select them. To highlight a group of folders, use Shift + click.
  • It is now possible to remove links to missing audio files:
  • After adding your music albums into Musicnizer you may remove some songs (either duplicates or just songs that you do not like). The program will keep links to the files, as if they were still available.
  • In Musicnizer 7.2, you can delete such dead links while keeping information about the corresponding tracks.
  • Added statistics by artists:
  • An additional item is available in the "Statistics" window: now you can easily compare the number of albums by each artist in your collection.
  • Disc type (studio album, live, single, etc.) is now shown on the album page:
  • In the "Edit info" window, you can specify the "type" of each disc.
  • All albums of a certain type can be displayed:
  • If you click on the disc type, as described above, all albums of this type will be shown.
  • Added an option to display all albums by the disc release year:
  • In Musicnizer, each music album can have several years: the main "Year" field contains information about the initial release year of the album, while the "Year" field on the "Discs" tab contains information about the release year of the particular disc (reissue, remastered copy, etc.).
  • While you could always filter albums by the initial release year, Musicnizer 7.2 offers a new feature to filter albums by their disc release year.
  • Rating of albums is shown in discographies:
  • On the artist's page, you can now easily see which albums you like the most.
  • On the album page, you can now rate individual tracks:
  • While in previous versions of Musicnizer you could set rating for individual tracks in the "Edit info" window, Musicnizer 7.2 offers clickable stars directly on the album page.
  • If an artist is listed as a track artist for some "Various artists" album, the album will now be displayed in the discography of the artist:
  • A new feature of Musicnizer 7.2 allows showing in the discography of an artist not just regular albums of the artist, but also collections with one or more songs by the artist.
  • Fixed wrong total size of albums for combinations like FLAC + CUE:
  • For file combinations like FLAC + CUE, where the complete album is stored in a big FLAC file, Musicnizer could save an incorrect total size. This problem was fixed in Musicnizer 7.2.
  • Fixed saving artist when adding albums by barcode:
  • If you added music albums by barcodes without downloading information, Musicnizer could use the information displayed in the preview. However, information about artist wasn't saved to the database, even though it was shown in the preview. Musicnizer 7.2 saves information about artists in this situation.
  • Fixed importing CUE sheets containing links to multiple audio files:
  • Some CUE sheets with links to several audio files could be added incorrectly. This was fixed in Musicnizer 7.2.
  • Fixed other bugs:
  • As usual, Musicnizer 7.2 includes further improvements and bug fixes. Please visit our forum or use our support form, to suggest a feature or report a bug.

New in Musicnizer 7.0 Build 399 (Dec 28, 2013)

  • Licensing changes. Now a single registration code works for all organizers:
  • Licensing policy changes in Musicnizer 7.0. Now you can use your registration data with 3 organizers: Movienizer (movie organizer), Musicnizer (music organizer) and Booknizer (book organizer). It is sufficient to enter your registration code once, in one of the programs. Furthermore, now you can choose between 1-year and lifetime licenses.
  • Added support for WavPack (.wv):
  • Musicnizer 7.0 supports additional audio formats. In particular, special support for a popular lossless format, WavPack, was added. WavPack files typically have the .wv filename extension.
  • Showing pie charts in the statistics:
  • The "Diagram" tab of the "Statistics" window can now draw pie charts. In previous versions of Musicnizer, only bar chart diagrams were available.
  • On the Pictures tab of the Edit info window, several pictures can be selected:
  • It is now easier to edit information about music albums and artists. On the "Pictures" tab of the "Edit info" window for an album or an artist, you can select several pictures at once and apply an action (change their type, delete them). You can add pictures to selection using Ctrl + Click.
  • When you navigate using "Back" and "Forward" buttons, the scrolling position is saved:
  • Sometimes a page contain pretty much information, and you need to scroll down to see some details (alternatively, tabs on the album / artist pages can be used). Suppose that you scrolled down on an artist's page and clicked on some album to learn more about it. After checking the album's page, you click the "Back" button on the toolbar to return to the artist's page. Previous versions of Musicnizer would display the page from the top. Musicnizer 7.0 remembers your scrolling position, just like a browser would do, making navigation between pages more comfortable.
  • It is now possible to change size of icons on the main toolbar:
  • Musicnizer 7.0 features bigger icons on the main toolbar. You can select from 3 available sizes by right-clicking the toolbar.
  • Items on the "Collection" tab can be moved up and down the list:
  • Albums on the "Albums" tab (in the left part of the main window) can be sorted in a few different ways. More sorting options you get on the "Collection" tab. The main advantage of this tab is that it's fully configurable. You can create your own sorting methods and remove existing ones, using the "Manage" - "Customize collection" window.
  • Musicnizer 7.0 allows moving items on the "Collection" tab up and down the list. Now, instead of deleting all items and re-adding them in the desired order, you can simply move individual items to the desired position.
  • You can add any audio formats in the file scanner settings:
  • If a particular audio format is not recognized by Musicnizer, you can click the "File scanner settings" link in the "Add album" window (when adding from files and folders), then click the green plus button in the file scanner settings window and enter your own formats:
  • When creating a backup copy, the program checks database integrity:
  • Musicnizer offers an easy way of creating backups of your collection. Just select "File" - "Create a backup copy" and choose a location where backups should be saved. Musicnizer 7.0 additionally checks integrity of your database to make sure that the backup contains correct data. If there is a problem, Musicnizer will stop creating the backup and display a message.
  • You can disable integrity check. This will allow the program creating backups faster, but we wouldn't recommend it.
  • Creating an illustrated catalog for Dune HD players with a different network name:
  • The default network name of Dune HD players is "Dune". Musicnizer uses it to recognize the player on your network. However, you can change the network name manually, which especially makes sense if you have several Dune HD players.
  • Musicnizer 7.0 takes this into account and allows using custom network names with your Dune HD players.
  • Improved support for Unicode in Dune HD patterns:
  • While Musicnizer 6 fully supported Unicode, some problems might show themselves when you created a music catalog for your Dune HD player. Musicnizer 7.0 improves support for Unicode in Dune HD patterns.
  • When you start the program, it automatically checks for newer versions of scripts and download new scripts:
  • Scripts are special modules that allow downloading information about music albums and artists from various sources. Scripts are updated, when the corresponding internet source changes its format. In this case, using an older version of the corresponding script may result into getting incomplete or wrong information. That's why Musicnizer checks for newer versions of scripts every time you start the program. Previous versions of Musicnizer checked updates only for the active pair of scripts. Musicnizer 7.0 checks updates for all scripts and additionally downloads missing scripts. This is important if you use more than one pair of scripts.
  • Fixed deleting albums from a discography:
  • In Musicnizer 6, there was a bug that might prevent the user from removing albums from a discography of an artist. Musicnizer 7.0 fixes this issue.
  • Fixed reading disc number from WAV files:
  • Musicnizer 6 did not read the disc number field from ID3 tags in WAV files. This is fixed in Musicnizer 7.0.

New in Musicnizer 6.0 Build 363 (Apr 5, 2013)

  • Musicnizer now fully supports Unicode:
  • Musicnizer features full Unicode support. Now information in any language can be stored within the same database and correctly displayed in any circumstances, with any system language.
  • New user interface: Breeze:
  • A new user interface, Breeze, was added in Musicnizer. The interface uses a different design and offers new features, like settings for changing font size, line height, etc. You can adjust interface settings or switch between available interfaces on the "User interface" tab of the "Options" menu (F10).
  • An option to create a new category for your illustrated Dune music catalog displaying a list of all tracks:
  • If you own a Dune HD media player, you will appreciate the new feature of Musicnizer, the ability to list all tracks alphabetically. Just enable the corresponding category when you create an illustrated music catalog for your Dune.
  • Music Path Changer plugin was added:
  • If your music albums are stored as audio files, you can easily add them into the program and later play any song or complete albums directly from Musicnizer. However, if you move your music collection to another folder, links in your database need to be updated, otherwise you will not be able to play the files anymore. You can easily update all paths with the Path Changer plugin.
  • The Pause button was added:
  • The built-in player controls now include the Pause button:
  • Checking for newer versions of the current scripts in the background:
  • Musicnizer depends on scripts to download information about albums and artists from the internet. By default, the program checked for newer versions of currently selected scripts when you started the program. Musicnizer starts faster than previous versions, as it checks for script updates in the background.
  • It is now possible to add several pictures at once in the "Edit info" window:
  • In the "Edit info" window, you can add album covers, photos of artists, and other pictures to the items in your collection. Musicnizer allows adding multiple images at the same time.
  • Closing tabs with a middle button click:
  • Actions for the middle mouse button / wheel were added in Musicnizer 6.0. Now you can click a tab with the middle mouse button in order to close it.
  • Opening a new inactive tab with a middle button click on a link:
  • Now you can click any link with the middle mouse button to open its destination in a new inactive tab.
  • An option to delete thumbs from the "File" menu:
  • Musicnizer uses thumb images to display information faster and in better quality. However, now and then you may want to delete thumbs (remove older pictures that you no longer use etc.). In Musicnizer, you can select "File" - "Delete thumbs" to remove all thumbs.
  • It is now possible to set just the year when a band was founded:
  • Previous versions of Musicnizer required a complete date including day, month, and year. While having such exact information is good, for some bands and even individuals it is not available. Musicnizer takes this into account and allows entering just years, if no day and month information is known.
  • New date format to show last added and last updated albums more precisely:
  • Musicnizer stores information about dates in a new format. Now time is also included into the details, making it possible to sort albums or artists added / updated on the same day in the order they were added.
  • Updated scripts:
  • All available download scripts were updated for Musicnizer, adding some new features and making sure that all information would be downloaded correctly.
  • Fixed reading tags from FLAC files:
  • Support for FLAC tags was improved in Musicnizer.
  • Fixed reading WAV tags:
  • Musicnizer can extract information from WAV files.
  • The Melomania import plugin was fixed/ updated:

Now you can add tracks from files, from an Audio CD, re-link tracks after moving your files, etc. using the "..." button next to the "Album path" field (the first screenshot on this page shows adding tracks from an Audio CD). Unnecessary buttons were removed to make the interface more clear and intuitive.
  • Improved plugins to import information from other music organizers:
  • Import plugins were updated to match the latest changes in the corresponding music organizer programs. Import your existing music collection into Musicnizer easily!
