What's new in Nikon NX Studio 1.6.0

  • Added support for Z 8 firmware version 2.00.
  • Improved filtering operation when the “show sequences as single images” setting is disabled.
  • Fixed the following issues:
  • Could not enable [PF Flare Control] for a picture taken with a NIKKOR Z 600mm f/6.3 VR S lens.
  • If NX Studio was started without network connection, an error message was shown.
  • Pictures taken with [Clarity] set to [A] (auto) and [Contrast] to [-3] with D5, D850, D500, and D7500 cameras were not displayed correctly.
  • Selecting a folder containing images edited with Capture NX would force NX Studio to terminate.
  • When a folder containing pictures shot in burst photography was selected, it was not displayed correctly.
  • The [Browse...] button was not displayed if a long destination path was specified for [Open with Application] > [Destination for Files Opened in Other Applications] in the [Options] dialog.

  • Added support for photos taken and videos recorded by the Z f.
  • Series of pictures taken using pixel shift shooting on the Z f can now be merged on NX Studio.
  • Note: Merged pixel shift files will have an extension “*.NEFX” when saved.
  • Added [Rich Tone Portrait], [Deep Tone Monochrome], and [Flat Monochrome] picture controls.
  • Custom Picture Controls can now be created, imported, and exported, applying the function of the Picture Control Utility 2.
  • Fixed the following issues:
  • The effect of D-Lighting HS would be reduced with images exported after adjustment was made with [D-Lighting HS].
  • If a RAW picture was saved after XMP/IPTC presets including labels and ratings were added and auto white balance adjustment was made, the adjustment made was not applied.
  • When transferring a series of pictures shot using burst photography using Nikon Transfer 2 via a card reader, not all pictures would not be transferred.
  • The audio on videos output using the Movie Editor function would stop during playback.
  • If texts were added to photos and video clips to make a video using the Movie Editor function, the preview on the [Text Settings] dialog would be slow due to overloading.
  • If the focus point on the bottom toolbar was selected, the image would not show correctly in the image viewer with a state of “Processing”.

  • An adjustments file (extension “.nka”) created in NX Studio version 1.3.2 or earlier could not be read.

  • Profiles for pictures exported in NEF (RAW) format would sometimes not contain the expected information.
  • Using keyboard controls to label pictures after zooming in would prevent the arrow keys being used for selecting pictures.
  • Selecting [Delete original files after transfer] in Nikon Transfer 2 would sometimes result in transfer being interrupted.

  • The vibration reduction information for pictures viewed in NX Studio would sometimes not match that shown on the camera.

  • With some models, the vibration reduction data in the [Info] palette [Camera Info] pane sometimes differed from that in the camera playback display.
  • The colors in JPEG files created from NEF/NRW (RAW) pictures shot using the AdobeRGB color space would sometimes differ from the originals.
  • Certain TIFF files could sometimes not be opened.
  • Cropping a picture, copying and pasting the result, and then cropping it a second time would result in abnormal crop boundaries displayed in a location different from the actual crop.
  • Adjustments to pictures containing embedded GPS data would sometimes be lost when the pictures were saved or prevent the pictures being successfully exported.

  • When using the recovery tool in the installer dialog, users can now opt to delete only the cache files by selecting Keep Existing Settings.
  • The map and YouTube upload features have been removed.
  • Added support for Windows 11.
  • Fixed an issue that resulted in the value shown in parentheses following Original Value in the White Balance tool when a RAW picture was chosen not updating after a different RAW picture was selected.
  • Fixed the following issues:
  • Applying a Picture Control saved using Record Adjustments to a cropped picture would reset the crop.
  • Cropping a picture that had previously been straightened after being cropped with the “same as original” option selected for aspect ratio would reset the crop aspect ratio to Free Crop.
  • Attempting to crop a picture previously cropped in ViewNX-i would cause NX Studio to crash.
