New, Faster Backup Engine for Local Backups:
With this release, our new backup engine, previously available for backing up to the cloud, is now available for your backup to local storage devices, such as disk, NAS, or RDX.
Our backup engine uses the latest streaming technologies and compression algorithms, allowing users to increase the number of backup jobs that can be run at a faster speed, reducing gaps between backups and speeding up restore times for minimal disruption to productivity.
Our beta testers have seen 36% (and more) faster first full backups while easily handling terabytes of data.
Streamlined Backup Jobs:
Take the guesswork out of defining your backup jobs and backup retention structure and set up your backup strategy without the need for a Ph.D.
NovaBACKUP always uses an incremental forever backup scheme. This means that you only need to set up a single backup job to schedule your initial full and ongoing incremental backups. The retention period is set to 30 days by default and can be adapted to your specific requirements.
Incremental backups only transfer the changes made to a file since the last backup. To improve the reliability of incremental backups, NovaBACKUP no longer relies on the archive bit of a file or folder to determine what needs to be backed up. Instead, it looks at the attributes of the objects that have changed, such as the date of the last update or size of the file, and compares them to what has already been backed up. As an additional failsafe, NovaBACKUP is still able to restore a file or folder even if one of the incremental backups is damaged.
Reliable Backups on Rotational Media:
To ensure that each storage device of your rotating media, such as removable USB drives or RDX, can retain the backup data and restore a complete set of files, NovaBACKUP writes a full version of the backup to each media. Subsequent backups will contain only the data that has changed since the last backup to that device.
Cloud is Always Included:
Any good backup practice will tell you that you should back up your business-critical data to more than one location. This ensures that no matter what type of data loss scenario you face, you can get your data back.

Flexible Restore View:
NovaBACKUP's updated Restore View displays all past backups by device, sorted by job name. When drilling down to the desired restore point, the Restore View highlights everything that is available in a folder, for example, across all existing backup jobs, allowing users to restore everything from a single view instead of restoring each full and incremental backup individually.
Add Local and Cloud Storage Devices Across Jobs:
Set up your backup storage devices in one place by selecting from local and cloud backup locations, including their credentials and encryption level, to be available for each of your backup jobs, rather than defining them multiple times per backup job.

Fixed issue which caused some models of NVME or M.2 hard drives in the Scheduled Image Backup selection dialog not to be visible and not able to be selected to image. Special note for this fix: For customers that upgraded from for instance 19.x to 20.x, or from 20.x to 20.1.x in some cases you will not be able to get Scheduled Image Backup jobs to work unless you recreate them as new jobs in 20.1.x. This will be especially true for those customers that are imaging NVMe and M.2 drives, which could be SATA-based or PCIe-based. This is due to a fix we made that solved the issue of not being able to even visually see certain NVME and M.2 drives in the selection list in the UI to be able to select one of those disks (which did affect many modern NVME hard drives).

Known Issues:
When Importing a backup, which already has an entry on the Restore tab from a different location, the software is unable to replace the existing entry, but indicates the Import operation was successful.
To Import a backup that was moved, delete the reference to the entry on the Restore tab that was originally written to a different location before performing the Import operation
Creating Image Boot Media using the "Simple" mode requires the presence of Windows installation files on the system. The software will detect if these Windows installation files are not in place and tell you if they are not. If these files are missing, use the "Advanced" mode to create the Image Boot Media.

This release signifies a significant shift in the management of NovaBACKUP licenses. By utilizing NovaBACKUP CMon, users can now remotely backup data for any NovaBACKUP client license using NovaBACKUP CMon from anywhere with internet access. For MSPs and Resellers, this provides an opportunity to provide your clients with remote services like creating and updating backup jobs without the need to be on-site.

Fixed issue where a restore may fail from backups on a cloud device. In some instances restoring from the Cloud Device will show dates of 2038 and sizes of 300GB for every file, making restores fail. When going to the restore view of a Cloud Backup you will sometimes get a dialog box of 'the apf file was not found' so no restore can be done.
Fixed issue where a backup may not run. An "Account is currently active" pop-up will hold all further backups <fixed>.
Removed Features / New Requirements:
General:
Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 SBS SP2, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server SBS 2011, and Windows 8.0 are no longer supported. Microsoft had ended support for Windows 8.0 since Jan. 12, 2016, and Windows Server 2008 since Jan. 14, 2020. Microsoft had ended support for Windows 7, Server 2008 SBS SP2, 2008 R2, and SBS 2011 since Jan 14, 2020. The setup installers have not yet been updated to prevent installation on those unsupported operating systems. The help documentation have not yet been updated with the new system requirements.
The setup installers have been updated with .NET Framework 4.7.2 as a prerequisite and is automatically installed.
CMon:
“Microsoft ASP.NET Core 3.1.10 - Windows Hosting Bundle” was added as a prerequisite for the CMon web application and can be automatically installed as part of the CMon setup installer. CMon no longer supports Windows Server 2012. .NET Core 3.1 isn’t supported on Windows Server 2012, even though Microsoft’s extended support for that operating system doesn’t end until Oct. 10, 2023. The setup installer has not yet been updated to prevent installation on Windows Server 2012. The help documentation has not yet been updated with the new system requirements. Windows Server 2012 R2 is still supported.
CMon no longer supports the “Stand-alone web server” and “SQLite” database provider. The setup installer has not yet been updated to prevent selecting the SQLite and stand-alone web server option. The help documentation has not yet been updated to remove the deprecated options.
Known Issues:
VMware ESXi 7.x and VMware vSphere 7.x are not yet supported by NovaBACKUP.

What's new:
Improved backup speed. Actual performance increase varies depending on the hardware and configuration, but is expected to average roughly 10% when backing up to external devices such as USB or NAS drives.
Advanced Backup Verification of backup data files(optional)
The backup jobs perform double-data reads and comparison at a low-level.
Single pass image recovery scans the last full image backup, then goes through each subsequent incremental backup to acquire any later file revisions
for a seamless System Image recovery process.
