PDFCreator Changelog

What's new in PDFCreator 5.0.2

Dec 8, 2022
  • Improvements:
  • PDFCreator Terminal Server is running on Windows Enterprise multi-session again.
  • Bugs fixed:
  • User tokens without a colon character to separate the key and the value lead to an exception.
  • The split token was case sensitive and only worked with capital letters.

New in PDFCreator 5.0.1 (Nov 17, 2022)

  • Bugs fixed:
  • PDFCreator Terminal Server: The account selection for the license service in the setup could not handle an "@" in the user name.
  • The owner password was not saved, resulting in a request during an interactive conversion or an auto-save error.
  • The content of the background action was placed above the actual content instead of in the background.
  • The settings migration from an older PDFCreator version could cause the font for the signature action to be missing.
  • PDFCreator Free: The signature action failed, when the received time stamp was larger than 4 KB

New in PDFCreator 5.0.0 (Oct 7, 2022)

  • New features:
  • PDFCreator is now compatible with Windows Enterprise Multi-Session. Please use PDFCreator Professional (and not PDFCreator
  • Terminal Server) on Multi-Session. The licensing is based on an activated user instead of the machine.
  • PDFCreator 5.0.0 has been completely redesigned to give it a tidy, modern look.
  • Auto-merge: When saving to an existing file, you can choose that the new document will automatically be merged with the existing file.
  • When signing a PDF, you can now insert images into the visual signature, such as a scan of a company stamp - or you draw your
  • signature digitally in the signature settings.
  • PDFCreator Professional and Terminal Server: Split a document into multiple documents by using a special split token.

  • parsing for user tokens.
  • Under some circumstances, print jobs did not arrive in PDFCreator in the correct order, e.g. when the first document took longer to print
  • than the second. PDFCreator now sorts new print jobs based on the time when the print job was started, which ensures the correct
  • order even if printing one document takes longer.
  • The usage of encryption or signature action could result in an unwanted reset to the default action order.
  • When a new version was available, the 'Skip Version' option did not work in combination with the standby
  • and the hint was shown at each start.
  • During an update an installed license key was not displayed in the setup.

New in PDFCreator 3.2.0 Build 11758 (May 31, 2018)

  • Making Good Things Better
  • The users gave us overwhelming feedback on the (optional) notifications we added to the auto-save mode for PDFCreator Plus, PDFCreator Business and PDFCreator Terminal Server. Clicking on a success notification now opens the file location of the created document in an explorer window, ready for your further usage
  • In the last release we also introduced a history of your created jobs. From now on the creation date is already displayed in the main overview is a simple change but an absolute improvement
  • Another thing are tokens. Using variable content for settings, has always been an essential feature for sophisticated automated workflows. With the cover, attachment and background we finally provide the tokens for all our settings
  • Default Viewers:
  • To be honest, we had a lot of struggle to detect the systems default viewers for the associated file format. Therefore, it was not always possible to open a converted document (with the expected application). To solve this conclusively and for all Windows versions, you can now set an application in the PDFCreator application settings, that will be used as default viewer - individually per output format and with optional parameters.
  • Proxy for License Service:
  • PDFCreator Terminal Server requires to run a licensing service, which now supports a proxy server. It can be easily defined as setup parameter or configured in the registry.
  • More Improvements of PDFCreator 3.2:
  • Drag & drop folders to PDFCreator convert all files
  • Detect too long paths, invalid characters and invalid absolute paths in profile settings
  • Bugs fixed:
  • Prevent crash during uninstallation if spool folder is not empty
  • Prevent crash of PrinterHelper.exe on update
  • The auto-save notifications always took the settings from the default profile

New in PDFCreator 3.1.0 (May 31, 2018)

  • We had and still have a very succesfull year and want to complete it with another highlight. Our last release was a complete enhanced redesign of our world famous PDFCreator. Now we have added some brand new features to inspire your workflows.
  • Quick Actions:
  • We introduce an after conversion window to give you a summery of the resulting document with a quick and easy access to further actions - perfect for optional operations that are too infrequent to include them in a profile.
  • Notifications:
  • One of the favorite PDFCreator features is the extensive and timesaving autosave mode. Saving some document in a folder structure sorted by date, print it, upload it to a back-up server and send it via mail: It can be all done in one job. Sometimes this can be a little bit too magical. Therefore we added a notification in the tray area, available for PDFCreator Plus, PDFCreactor Business and PDFCreator Terminal Server. You will get a short subtile note when your conversion finished or - even more important - you will get immediate feedback if an error occured. You can select if you want notifications for every conversion, just for failed ones or completly disable them.
  • History:
  • Have you ever lost any files? You remember creating a document but forgot the exact name and where you saved it?
  • PDFCreator now provides an overview of the most recently converted documents. From here you can open them, process via PDF Architect, launch your email client or simply delete obsolete documents.
  • More Improvements of PDFCreator 3.1:
  • Quick actions: After converting a file, you can now optionally perform actions like opening the file or sending it by email. You can configure if you want to see this screen
  • File history: PDFCreator shows a list of the most recently converted documents and allows you to open or send these files
  • PDFCreator Plus, PDFCreactor Business and PDFCreator Terminal Server: Notifications for Auto-Save: When converting a file in Auto-Save mode, you can now optionally get a notification in the tray area. This can be configured to be shown on successful and failed jobs or just for failed ones
  • Command line: PDFCreator now accepts command line parameters to set the output file and the profile
  • It is now possible to confirm the save dialog with the enter/ return key
  • User tokens in text fields now are shown in the preview with temporary values
  • The email actions now support CC and BCC fields as well
  • The timeout for the HTTP action can be configured now
  • Tokens are now available in the PDF signature fields Reason, Location and Contact
  • PDFCreator now uses Ghostscript 9.22 and (in the free version) iText 5.5.12
  • Bugs fixed:
  • PDFCreator is now able to invoke a print job for a lot more file formats, even if a UWP App is registered as default viewer.
  • Title replacement: Searching and replacing text is now case-insensitive.
  • After loading settings from ini files, the settings could not be saved anymore.
  • Under certain circumstances, a runtime error could happen during the setup.
  • PDFCreator Terminal Server: Under some circumstances, the activation service could not be installed successfully.
  • PDFCreator Plus, PDFCreactor Business and PDFCreator Terminal Server: When a connection to the license server is not possible, PDFCreator sometimes could delete a valid activation.
  • PDFCreactor Business and PDFCreator Terminal Server : When uninstalling the MSI setup, there could be an error under certain circumstances that would cause the MSI to abort and perform a rollback, which would install PDFCreator again.
  • Thanks to your error reports we could fix some additional bugs.

New in PDFCreator 3.0.0.7957 (Sep 21, 2017)

  • Logo
  • The first essential change is that the official PDFCreator logo has been modified. This is a big step since the logo is well-known all over the world. That's why we did not fully discard the logo - the typical PDFCreator flame keeps being integrated. Nonetheless, the new logo shows even better that PDFCreator is made for digital documents.
  • Another benefit is that now it's easier to distinguish between the different PDFCreator editions. The related version is clearly outlined by being labeled right aside the logo. By the way, the new logo is the result of an official design competition.
  • UX:
  • The outstanding innovation of PDFCreator 3.0 is a better User Experience: The user interface as a whole has been designed with the intention that the user can reach the desired result in as few steps as possible.
  • Both the private end user and the professional business user can easily perform the relevant steps they specifically want to take in order to perform the conversion process - regardless of whether this is a simple conversion or an automatic workflow including profound settings.
  • New Navigation:
  • The Home screen has got a completely new interface. We improved the structure and re-arranged tabs with the objective to ensure a user-friendly interaction and help you to get started as quickly as possible.
  • To more experienced users it may sound strange, but a common question was: I have installed PDFCreator, what should I do now? Simply Drag and Drop any file onto the Home screen will quickly start the conversion process. By the way: The preferred way is to print to the PDFCreator printer from any application that is capable of printing.
  • Where in the past the devision in "Application Settings" and "Profile Settings" might have been confusing for some users, now there is a clear horizontal navigation bar which is composed of the most important options such as Home, Profiles, Printers, Accounts as well as Application Settings and Help. We wanted to bring the settings that might to be changed regularly to your attention. We have also realized, that many users did not know about a lot of features that existed. Most features are placed more prominent. The settings button now only contains settings, that you seldom or hopefully never have to access (i.e. language, debug settings etc.).
  • Profile Settings:
  • The Profile section is designed to define specific settings as a profile. The settings are now grouped by meaning (i.e. Convert, Modify, Send) to be aligned with the way PDFCreator is processing the document. The settings of the former „Actions“ tab are integrated there as well. The new arrangement allows the user to make the desired settings in the most useful and logical order. For example Auto-Save and interactive conversion are now defined as first thing when configuring a profile, as they define the behaviour of the whole profile. Settings that exclude each other are hidden or disabled.
  • Accounts:
  • The main navigation includes a new Accounts option. It's the central place for accounts (SMTP, Dropbox, FTP, HTTP, Time Server). Once an account is configured it is available for all workflows. Retyping account information somewhere else is not necessary anymore. This is very helpful for users who regularly use automation and multiple printers. But you do not have to configure the accountshere. If you are configuring a profile and i.e. want to add a Dropbox upload, you can add the account directly from the profile.
  • PDFCReator Accounts Screen
  • All in all, the new structure guides the user in an intuitive manner to make the settings. Important options are presented more clearly. The new interface now comes with large areas, icons and buttons indicating that something can happen at these points.
  • If you have any suggestions in regards to the usability we invite you to submit your feedback. Please participate in our PDFCreator Redesign survey.
  • More Improvements :
  • The merge window has been redesigned to provide more information on the documents in the queue.
  • The title replacements are now easier to configure. The logic also has slightly changed, as most users just used it to remove things from the print document titles. If you want to actually replace it with another value, you have to use regular expressions now.
  • Wherever Tokens are supported, there is a token button now to give access to the tokens available
  • A new send action has been added to send the converted files via HTTP to a web hook
  • Triple-clicking a text box will now select the whole text, even if it contains multiple words.
  • The defaults for the settings were reconsidered. We now use the strongest available encryption for PDF files by default and also have reasonable security settings. When a PDF is protected, the default is now to allow to open and print the document, but not to allow any modification.
  • PDFCreator 3.0 is available in 29 languages now. We would like to take the opportunity to thank all translators and to welcome the new translations Estonian, Hungarian and Romanian.

New in PDFCreator 3.0.0.7493 Beta (Sep 6, 2017)

  • For the last few months, we have worked hard on PDFCreator 3.0 to make the user interface more intuitive and easier to use while keeping the extensive functionality of PDFCreator as you know it. Now we would like to hear your opinion on the work to see if you agree or we have forgot or misjudged something you are using intesively.

  • Adjusted and repaired COM samples

New in PDFCreator 2.5.0.116 (Feb 16, 2017)

  • Increased Safety Level:
  • A higher safety level is now available in PDFCreator Plus and all Business editions. We are very happy to provide 256 Bit AES encryption.
  • This is possible because PDFCreator is now including PDF Tools libraries. The Swiss company PDF Tools is member of the PDF association and provides the highly valued PDF Online Validator pdf-online.com. As Switzerland is world-wide known for best security levels, we believe there's no better way to rely on additional security tools being provided by Swiss companies. Using PDF Tools for signing, encryption and PDF/A conversion ensures the highest quality standards.
  • More Improvements:
  • Dropbox share link is shown after conversion
  • Single share link (folder) for Dropbox allows upload of multiple files

  • Use PDF Version 1.7 for PDF/A-2b (comply with standard)
  • Thanks to your error reports, we could fix some unexpected exceptions.

New in PDFCreator 2.4.0.213 (Oct 11, 2016)

  • Breaking changes:
  • The COM interface has been moved to the file PDFCreator.COM.dll. If you are referencing the PDFCreator.exe, you now have to reference the PDFCreator.COM.dll. If you are using the object name, no changes will be required. The interface itself did not change.
  • Improvements:
  • Dropbox integration allows to upload files to Dropbox and add shared links to your mails
  • Default metadata: You can now define templates for all metadata fields including subject and keywords
  • Business: PDFCreator can now extract user tokens from the source document and use them for the conversion. See User Tokens.
  • Terminal Server: The licenses on a Terminal Server are now managed per machine to allow users to float between servers in a server farm
  • We did a major architectural redesign, which will allow us to change this faster in future and also greatly increases the application performance
  • Updated to Ghostscript 9.19, which seems to be the most stable version available at the moment
  • When inserting a new license key, you can now optionally transfer it to all other users on the machine
  • Bugs fixed:
  • Only certain characters are allowed in the Stamp feature. PDFCreator will now filter invalid characters.
  • Sometimes a DirectoryNotFoundException occurred when converting a file. This should be fixed now.
  • Title replacements were broken for the InputFilename token
  • PDF/A files became very large and couldn’t use RGB colors. This was fixed by the Ghostscript update
  • The COM method SetProfileByGuid did not work
  • PDFCreator could not be run from a guest account
  • The tokens NumberOfPages and NumberOfCopies could contain wrong values
  • When settings were set in HKU.Default, PDFCreator would not initialize the profiles
  • PDF Architect was always installed in silent mode

  • Bugs fixed:
  • Fixed a bug with providing defaults for all users. If a few settings were present in HKU.DEFAULT, PDFCreator would initialize the user settings without profiles except the default profile

New in PDFCreator 2.3.1.19 (Jun 30, 2016)

  • The current update is a maintenance release with new advertisements in the free version, that are not affected by false alerts from anti-virus software.

New in PDFCreator 2.3.0.103 (Mar 1, 2016)

  • New product range:
  • We have added exclusive features for PDFCreator Plus and PDFCreator Business users, but we have also experienced that the licensing could be a problem on Terminal Servers, as the licensing was performed on a per-user basis
  • Starting with PDFCreator 2.3, the licensing on Terminal Servers has been optimized and you are only required to purchase one license per Terminal Server that is valid for an unlimited number of users
  • New License Tab:
  • If you have purchased PDFCreator Plus or one of the business editions, you can see license details on the new license tab in the application settings. There you can also change the license key if required.
  • You can also open the license server website from the tab, where you can manage your machines, i.e. when you have moved to a new computer, and renew your license or purchase additional users for your business license.
  • Improved Drag and Drop:
  • The drag and drop functionality has been enhanced. It has already been possible to drag any files on a PDFCreator window to print and convert them. Now you can also drag the files on the PDFCreator desktop shortcut to convert files. If you want to add PDF files to your current conversion file list, you can simply drag them on a window as well, it is no longer needed to print them to a PDFCreator printer.
  • New HotFolder:
  • PDFCreator Plus, PDFCreator Business and PDFCreator Terminal Server also include the latest version of HotFolder. It allows the creation of special folders on any computer, files added to these folders are automatically converted to PDF or image files using PDFCreator.
  • The new version comes with a wizard that makes it much easier to configure a folder and will also configure PDFCreator if desired. Formerly, you can to do a part of the configuration in HotFolder and then move to PDFCreator to create the printer and define the auto save profile that will be used. This is now done inside the configuration wizard. HotFolder now also supports to exclude certain file types from being converted or to restrict conversion to certain files types only.
  • Better context menu integration:
  • PDFCreator now integrates much better with the Windows Explorer. We have created a dynamic integration (a so-called shell extension), which analyzes the selected files and if there are printable files among them, offers to convert them with PDFCreator
  • The old explorer integration was installed during the setup and determined the file types that were printable at that time. As this may change after ther PDFCreator setup, there might be file types that were not detected as printable or were still offered to convert after the application to print them was uninstalled
  • The new shell extension detects this correctly. You will also be notified if there are a few non-convertible files among a large amount of files
  • Enhanced title replacements:
  • We want to give you more control on how the title replacement is performed by PDFCreator. Therefore, you can now select how the replacement should be done. You can choose to replace all occurances of a given string (the old behaviour), only remove a given string from the start or the end of the title.
  • For example the print job names of office products look like “Microsoft Word - Original Document Title.doc”. You can now remove “Microsoft Word -“ at the beginning and “.doc” at the end of your title. If you would have converted a document "my.document.doc" in the past, the title would be modified to "myument", as any occurance of ".doc" was removed.
  • If this still is not powerful enough, you can also apply a regular expression. With regular expressions, you can do very powerful replacements, once you got used to the syntax.
  • One user was facing a problem where he would have very long file names when printing images from zip files. The zip application extracted the files to a temporary folder, which led to very long file names as they contained the temporary path, the name of the zip file and the name of the image that was converted.
  • You can find the solution to this problem in the user guide, together with an in-depth explanation of how the regular expressions work.
  • Service to collect error reports
  • To be able to contiously enhance PDFCreator, we have set up a service to collect error reports. Whenever a error should occur, you have the possibility to report the issue online. As we respect your privacy, you can review the information that is transferred before it is sent and it will only be sent if you give your consent to do so.
  • Other Improvements
  • We added the total number of pages to the merge window to give you a better overview when merging print jobs
  • If you are converting a file and cannot overwrite an existing file (most likely because it is opened by another application), PDFCreator requests a new filename instead of determining one with a number appended, which was our former solution
  • Most printing applications do not provide the original filename (the original file path respectively). In this case the Token remained empty. Now we provide the original document title instead
  • We employed a new designer who beside other things created a fresh new setup image

New in PDFCreator 2.2.0.1028 (Oct 28, 2015)

  • Group policies:
  • PDFCreator Plus for Business can now be configured with (fully managed) group policies. This is a first version of what we are planning and does not allow full control over every single set-ting. Instead, we have added policies to modify certain areas. Admins can now disable individual settings tabs in the application settings (Debug, Printers, Title) to prevent users from changing settings there. You can also disable access to the application settings completely.
  • In the profile settings, you can disable the profile management (adding, deleting and renaming profiles).
  • As for individual setttings, we allow to set the application language and the update interval right now, we are the most requested settings at the moment.
  • On top, some informational screens can be disabled as well, like the welcome screen after installation and the information on PDF Architect. As the group policies are fully managed, they will not change the user‘s registry settings. While a policy is set, certain settings will not be available to the user and hint is displayed, that the setting is defined by the admin. When the policy is released again, the original value will be in place again.
  • You can find a full guide to what is possible here
  • For the future, we are thinking of ways to provide more functionality here as well, i.e. on how to predefine full profiles. If you have any suggestions on what you would like to see here, let us know in the comments.
  • E-Mail Button:
  • The logic of the E-Mail button in the print job window was changed. It has been requested for a long time and now it is possible to create a mail from your print job without having to select a location on the hard drive.
  • The output files are now stored in a temporary location and attached to the mail client. When PDFCreator closes, it will look into that temporary folder and remove files that are older than one day.
  • This process is required, because PDFCreator does not know when you actually send the mail. This can take a few moments and if PDFCreator deletes the files before they are sent, you will run into trouble.
  • PDF Architect 4:
  • Along with the Release of PDFCreator 2.2.0, we have also published PDF Architect 4, the next version of our full-featured PDF editor.
  • The new PDF Architect loads faster than ever and the new hibernate mode will not fully shut down PDF Architect when closing the application, but will leave a small process running. As a result, PDF Architect will open instantly afterwards. And if you don‘t like it, you can disable it in the settings.
  • The new side-by-side view allows you to put two documents next to each other and scroll through the synchronously, to look for things that have changed. Of course, there still is the automatic document comparison tool.
  • The redaction features allow to either erase content from the document (whiteout) or replace the content (blackout) securely. The content will be replaced completely instead of placing a black bar on top of the content. This bar could be easily remove (i.e. with PDF Architect). The replacement solution makes it perfect for confidential informa-tion.
  • On top of the redaction, PDF Architect also comes with more professional grade features like export to different PDF/A formats (1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b, 2u, 3u) and cloud synchronization for the most popular could file storages Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, Box.com and Evernote.
  • COM Interface:
  • After many tests, the COM interface now is no lon-ger marked as "Beta". We have changed the PDFCreatorBeta object names to PDFCreator. From now on, we will use strict versioning in the COM interface that will allow applications being linked to a certain COM interface version to run even if we change things.
  • Apart from that, the COM interface now contains methods to clear the print queue and to query metadata from a print job (i.e. title, computer name or printer). This helps in deciding what to do with the incoming print jobs.
  • Code Quality:
  • When you work on a project for years, things tend to evolve over time and sometimes you need to finish something quickly or wrench a feature into an architecture that was not designed for that.
  • We at pdfforge love good code and hate to integrate ugly solutions, but still this happens from time to time. During this release, we have refactored many sections in our code.
  • This started with making the code base fit for building PDFCreator Server on top of that, but even after this was completed, we reworked many things towards a better design and improved testability.
  • And to make sure features remain working over the time, we have added a lot of unit and integration tests that are run each time we commit something to our git server.
  • Translations:
  • PDFCreator now comes with 19 Translations. While we always try to serve as many people in their native language as possible, we have also added more checks to raise the quality of the translations. In different places, PDFCreator needs to tell the things that you can‘t translate upfront, i.e. „There are 5 print jobs waiting“.
  • The number 5 would obviously change most of the times this is displayed, so we are using a placeholder in the messages, i.e. „There are {0} print jobs waiting“, where „{0} will be replaced with the actual number.
  • In the past, we have sometimes seens translations where these placeholders were not inserted properly and were not replaced. The result could have been something like „There are (0) print jobs waiting“ (note the round brackets instead of the curly ones). While we can‘t actually check how good the translations are, we have now automated to check if these placeholders are present and can be replaced correctly.
  • Ghostscript:
  • We had a few problems with the different versions of Ghostscript we have been using over the time. There have been problems that existed in single versions and we had a hard time to find a version that actually is stable.
  • Eventually we ended with Ghostscript 9.10 which did not contain the most urgent problems our users had, except for one problem with the metadata in PDF/A files. We have backported a patch that fixes this and now ship a modified version of Ghostscript 9.10.
  • Bug fixes:
  • As we are talking about bugs, we are not free of fail of course. We have fixed several issued our users have reported over the last months. Among them, there are some uncaught exceptions that could lead to an error message window. They are handled properly now.
  • Not strictly a bug, but rather a limitation we have worked around now is that PDFCreator was not able the convert jobs merged from many (> 300) individual jobs.
  • The reason is that the amount of space we can occupy on a command line is rather limited and therefore we exceeded the allowed space (32767 caracters).
  • Ghostscript supports to read the parameters from a file instead, so we now support the conversion of much larger print jobs (tested with 3000 print jobs merged into one).

New in PDFCreator 2.1.1.820 (Apr 3, 2015)

  • Improvements:
  • The JobID token now holds the Windows print job id. This is not unique over reboots though. The Counter token remains always unique.
  • The COM Interface now has a method PrintFile, to call the Windows Shell commands to print a file with PDFCreator.
  • Bugs fixed:
  • The save file dialog was still not on top in some cases, when the PDFCreator window was skipped. We thought to have fixed this, but there were more conditions where this could occur.
  • PDFCreator could crash when no settings were present in the registry for the current user.
  • Changing the Metadata in the print job window did no work, the final document contained the defaults
  • Fixed a bug in the UI where the Resampling for Color and Monochrome images could not be set separately
  • Loading settings from an INI file did not work
  • PDFCreator Plus: There was a bug in HotFolder. When creating the folder for converted documents inside the watched folder, it was converted infinitely.

New in PDFCreator 2.0.2.751 (Jan 23, 2015)

  • This version fixes a few bugs that were found since the last release. Among the fixes, there were a few occasions when an exception was not caught and the application could crash. This did not cause any harm, but was annoying. Another problem was with detecting the default E-mail client. This is defined in several places and they are not documented properly. We did some analysis there and think that we have figured out now when to use Outlook and when the MAPI is preferred.

New in PDFCreator 2.0.1.714 (Dec 17, 2014)

  • Fixes a few problems that were found after the release of PDFCreator 2.0. Among them was a problem that could result in empty profiles, when PDFCreator was loading the settings while another instance was closing. There was also a bug when trying to add printers with blanks in the name. Finally, we have also fixed a few minor bugs, two problems in the COM interface and clarified a few points in the manual.

New in PDFCreator 2.0.0.695 (Nov 28, 2014)

  • Improvements:
  • The initial folder of the save dialog can now be predefined instead of always using the last folder
  • You can now choose if you want to add background pages to cover or attachments as well
  • When creating E-mails in Microsoft Outlook, the COM interface is used instead of the generic MAPI, which allows to preserve signatures
  • PDFCreator checks the profiles for problems. This could have taken very long, if a lot of network drives were involved
  • PDFCreator now also loads environment variables from the volatile environment
  • The User Guide now contains more information and cross-references
  • PDFCreator now only required .Net 4 Client Profile
  • The setup now supports a proxy server for internet access
  • The script action can now configure if PDFCreator should wait for the script to terminate
  • Signed PDFs can now be configured to allow multiple signatures
  • Bugs fixed:
  • The setup now checks if PDFCreator still is running when updating or removing the application.
  • The output files did not always have the expected permissions, as they were moved from a temp folder. Now the files are copied and thus get the parent folder permissions.
  • The COM interface was not properly registered for 32 bit applications
  • PDF/X files were created with an invalid color model

New in PDFCreator 1.9.5 (Nov 28, 2014)

  • Improvements:
  • The user guide is much more detailed on how to use the COM interface
  • When Outlook is the default E-mail client, PDFCreator now uses the ActiveX interface to open Outlook instead of the MAPI. This is more robust and does not make Outlook wait in the background until the mail is sent
  • Under some circumstances, the spool folder of some users ended with very restrictive permissions that wouldn’t allow PDFCreator to read the print jobs. PDFCreator now detects this and offers to fix this permission issue
  • If no language is set, PDFCreator tries to find the best matching language based on the Windows interface language
  • There is a new command line parameter /ManagePrintJobs, which makes PDFCreator start with the print job list opened. This allows to collect multiple print jobs and then proceed with auto-save
  • When using auto-save, the user can now control if existing files may be overwritten
  • The script action now also takes tokens in the path and parameters
  • The Title can now be customized with tokens as well
  • PDFCreator 1.9.5 is now available in 10 languages. If you language is missing, you can help translating PDFCreator here: http://translate.pdfforge.org
  • Includes Ghostscript 9.14
  • PDFCreator Plus: There is now an offline activation feature that allows to install PDFCreator Plus even if there is no internet connection or connecting to the license server fails
  • Bugs fixed:
  • When a Ghostscript error occurs, PDFCreator created an empty or broken output file and processed all actions. Now a message is shown instead and the error is logged.
  • The print after save action did not show all system printers, but only PDFCreator printers
  • Compression for TIFs was disabled
  • Sometimes the controls for the PDF encryption strength were not updated when changing profiles
  • When the script action contained characters that are not allowed in Windows paths, the Window crashed due to an uncaught exception
  • Environment Variables from the volatile environment on terminal servers were not loaded properly, which could result in PDFCreator using the wrong temp folder

New in PDFCreator 1.9.4 Beta (Jul 13, 2014)
