New in Path Copy Copy 18.0 (Jan 26, 2020)

  • First major release of Path Copy Copy to require Windows Vista or later. Includes numerous improvements and bug fixes, including
  • Support for per-machine and per-user installations from the same installer (#79). This replaces the old "Portable" version which was discontinued a while ago.
  • Custom commands can now be based on other custom commands (#92).
  • New option to get the path of an actual shortcut instead of the path of its target (#7).
  • New custom command feature to replace parts of the path with environment variable references (#65).
  • Windows of the Settings application can no longer appear offscreen (#101).

New in Path Copy Copy 17.1.1 (Nov 17, 2019)

  • Bugfix release to remove a bug that prevented the "Export User Settings" command from working properly on Windows XP. Additionally, this release includes more information when exporting user settings fails, to try and diagnose #96.
  • This release will not be pushed to the software update. Grab it if you have a specific issue when exporting user settings.

New in Path Copy Copy 17.0.1 (Sep 9, 2019)

  • Quick bugfix release for 17.0 that fixes an important issue with custom commands and Expert Mode (#87). Otherwise similar to 17.0 - see release notes below.
  • The first release in almost a year, version 17.0 of Path Copy Copy is shock-full of features and bug fixes, including:
  • Switch .NET requirement to .NET 4, which is readily available on modern OSes (#64)
  • New Expert Mode for custom commands to allow never-before-seen configurations (#5)
  • Adaptative shortcuts for menu items to avoid clashes (#57)
  • New wiki containing long-needed documentation and more! The full list of features and bug fixes included in this release can be found in the GitHub milestone.
  • This is a much-recommended upgrade for all users. Additionally, this version will be the last Path Copy Copy major version to support Windows XP. As support for Windows XP has been dropped by Microsoft already and new features require more modern OSes, this is an acceptable tradeoff.

New in Path Copy Copy 16.0 (Nov 26, 2018)

  • New recommended release with the following new features:
  • #30 : Can use fully-qualified domain names in UNC paths
  • #38 : Can add quotes around paths only when necessary (e.g. when they contain spaces)
  • #46 : New command to copy SMB (Samba) paths
  • #47 : New command to copy WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) paths
  • #49 : Can add separator at the end of directory paths

New in Path Copy Copy 15.1 (Oct 29, 2018)

  • Mostly a bugfix release, but still recommended. The following issues have been addressed:
  • Cannot remove separators from the menus
  • Report version in Windows' control panel
  • Path can be copied on right-click even if Ctrl is not pressed
  • Add error reporting when failing to export settings

New in Path Copy Copy 15.0 (Dec 27, 2017)

  • New release implementing/fixing the following issues:
  • #4 : Custom commands can now launch an executable with path as argument, instead of copying to clipboard
  • #6 : It is now possible to assign a command to be used automatically when the Ctrl key is held down
  • #11 : Escape '+' character in URIs
  • #20 : Ignoring software updates will work properly

  • This release restores compatibility with Windows XP. A must-have for WinXP users, but can safely be skipped by others with more recent OSes that already have version 14.0.

  • Major release with an oft-requested feature: the ability to completely reorder commands, be it in the main contextual menu or the Path Copy Copy submenu. This also allows users to add or remove separators.
  • Other changes:
  • New Feature: Ability to copy multiple paths on the same line
  • New Feature: Add option to encode spaces in path
  • New Feature: Transfer Path Copy Copy settings to another machine
  • Bugfix: "Drop redundant words" should not apply to custom commands
  • Bugfix: Do not apply "Drop redundant words" to commands in main menu
  • Bugfix: Many fixes to the Portable installer. It was essentially non-functional on a machine that did not already have the main version of Path Copy Copy installed. It should work as originally intended now.

New in Path Copy Copy 12.0 (Feb 28, 2015)

  • New Feature: Now available as a portable installer. Installs for the current user only. Should work in limited environments.
  • New Feature: Now available as a Windows Installer (MSI) package. Should help network administrators distribute Path Copy Copy in network environments through Group Policy.

  • New Feature: Exported custom commands how have a "Required version" field that should prevent problems when importing on older versions of Path Copy Copy.

  • New Feature: Sample projects have been converted to the Visual Studio 2013 format. The Community Edition is sufficient to work with them. (The Path Copy Copy projects have also been updated to Visual Studio 2013.)
  • Bugfix: Custom commands should have non-empty names
  • Bugfix: Fixed some issues with COM-based commands when invoked through rundll32.
  • Bugfix: Custom commands did not work properly when called through rundll32 if they had a non-default base command.
  • Bugfix: Names with a space followed by one character
  • Bugfix: Copy Long Path does not work on partially accessible network shares

  • This version adds support for so-called "custom commands". These commands can be created via the Settings UI and allow the user to choose the way the path is to be modified, by performing such operations as find/replace, changing slashes, etc.

  • This version fixes the registration of user-created plugins, which has been broken in 7.0.

  • This version enhances the Settings UI to make it more user-friendly and adds several new options. All these options will also be configurable when installing via command-line parameters - documentation is coming on how to do this

  • It introduces a menu item to configure which plugins to display in the contextual sub-menu. Each account on the computer can have its own settings.

  • The main new feature in this version is the support of user-created COM plugins. End-users will probably not be affected by this; it might allow for faster deployment of custom plugins in the future though.
  • This release also fixes the following issues:
  • Copying multiple file/folder names outputs them on a single line
  • "Always show full menu" not sticking for all users

  • New version with a plugin to copy the Internet path of a file, in the form "file://path\to\file".

  • Support for "Copy UNC path" plugin. Copies the UNC (network share) path of a file.
