  • Main updates in v7.1:
  • Customization option: Three modes available to customize Photomatix Pro for your use ('Landscape Photography', 'Real Estate Photography' and 'Photogrammetry').
  • HDR Inspector tools: The HDR Inspector panel adds controls to adjust the exposure and zoom factor of a 32-bit HDR image opened in Photomatix Pro. It also allows you to draw a selection on the 32-bit HDR image in order to visualise it at original resolution with an adjusted brightness, with the option to copy it to the clipboard.
  • Lens selection in batch mode: The 'Merge Options' panel of the Batch Bracketed Photos adds an option to select the lens that will be used by the lens correction.
  • Resize to smallest alignment crop: The 'Naming & Resizing' panel of the Batch Bracketed Photos adds an option to apply the smallest alignment crop to all aligned images.
  • The HDR Histogram has been improved and made accessible from the HDR Inspector.
  • Other updates in v7.1:
  • Bug fix: When using the Batch Preview feature with Raw files, the preview was often brighter than it should with presets or setting from Tone Mapping methods.
  • Bug fix: The Open Photo dialog was crashing if the previous path used to load photos didn't exist anymore.

New in Photomatix Pro 7.0 (Feb 2, 2023)

  • Main new features in v7:
  • The new Batch with Preview feature lets users see a preview of each HDR image before batching bracketed photos. Each image can also be adjusted by applying a different preset or HDR settings.
  • The ghost removal mask can now be saved and loaded again in the selective ghost removal window, making it easier if the same photos need to be merged again, and also allowing selective ghost removal when batching.
  • New custom watermark tool, with options to select the font, size, layout and position of the watermark.
  • HDR images can be saved as 32-bit DNG, making it easy to further edit them in Photoshop or other photo editing apps. Processed images can also be saved as DNG images.

New in Photomatix Pro 7.0 Beta (Jan 31, 2023)

  • Batch with preview:
  • This new interactive feature lets you see a preview of each HDR image before batching bracketed photos. You can also adjust each image by applying a different preset or HDR settings. This is particularly useful when processing photos of scenes with varying lighting conditions.
  • Save ghost removal mask:
  • The selective ghost removal feature adds an option to save the areas marked for deghosting. This avoids having to start over again when you need to merge the same bracketed photos. It also allows you to use the ghost removal selection for batching.
  • Custom watermark tool:
  • You can add your own text watermark to images with the new watermark tool, with options to select the font, size, layout, and position of the watermark.
  • Save HDR images as 32-bit DNG:
  • Version 7 adds the option to save images in DNG format, including 32-bit DNG for the merged HDR image.
  • Start batching via drag & drop:
  • You can now initiate the batch processing by drag-and-drop or browsing bracketed photo sets.

  • Bugs fixed: Fuji compressed RAW files couldn't be loaded anymore.
  • Bugs fixed: On Windows XP, the window that opens when loading images was invisible, making it impossible to use the application in non-batch mode. Bug had been introduced in version 6.1.0.
  • Bug fixed: When loading images without an embedded thumbnails, the 'Selected Photos' window didn't always generate a thumbnail to display on the list.
  • Bugs fixed: The 'Check exposures' report systematically indicated that the most overexposed photos may not cover the darkest parts of the scene well, regardless of how bright the overexposed photos were.
  • When enabling the "Optimize for hi res display" option in Preferences, a prompt is now informing that the application needs to be restarted for the option to take effect.
  • On the Finishing Touch window, the selection for the crop ratio combo-box of the Crop Tool is now remembered between sessions.

  • More style choice for realistic results:
  • A new HDR rendering method called Tone Balancer gives you more options for achieving a realistic look. It is well-suited to real estate and natural style landscapes.
  • Refine your image with more control over color:
  • With the new interactive brush tool, you can make color changes to just parts of the image by painting over those areas. You can also remove color casts, enhance skies, and adjust other image features by fine-tuning the saturation, hue, and brightness of individual colors.
  • Avoid overdoing it:
  • If you want a more realistic look, you can blend your original photo with the HDR rendered image. You can also use a brush to blend specific areas with the original photo, or one of the other photos from a bracketed set.
  • Remove distortion from your photos:
  • If the horizon isn't straight or vertical objects like buildings aren't vertical, you can quickly straighten your photo and fix perspective issues where lines don't look parallel when they should. These are particularly helpful features for architectural and landscape photographers.
  • A more intuitive workflow:
  • Whether you are working with a single image, or a bracketed set of photos, a more intuitive workflow makes it easier to load and choose images and proceed through to editing.

  • Support for uncompressed Sony RAW files.
  • Bug fixed: Loading Fuji E-X2 RAW files since the v4 firmware upgrade made Photomatix Pro crash.

New in Photomatix Pro 5.1 (Sep 7, 2015)

  • Support for recent camera models such as the Nikon D7200 and Canon 5DS/5DSR, G7X, M3, and 750D/760D (T6i/T6s).
  • Ability to mark presets as Favorites (by clicking on the 'star' icon to the left of each thumbnail) and filter the preset list to only show those favorites.
  • Fusion/Real-Estate renamed into Fusion/Interior and now includes a Brightness setting.
  • Addition of "Architecture" category to filter Presets.
  • By default, the preset name or method name is now appended to the file name of the final image. You can also adjust the suffix in the Preferences panel.
  • On Batch of Bracketed Photos, addition of Base Exposure option for deghosting.
  • The alignment is now done with one alignment method for all cases. The alignment settings (perspective correction option and maximum alignment shift) can be pre-selected via an Alignment Preset pull-down menu.

  • Ability to reset the positions of the program's windows. This can be done on the Preferences panel under the "Advanced tab.
  • The Batch Bracketed Photos and Batch Single Photos windows have been rearranged. The source and destination controls are now all on the left hand side, while the processing options are on the right. Other options have also been moved or renamed slightly, but all the features in version 5.0 are still available in version 5.1.  
  • When loading bracketed photos with different orientation (i.e. inverted width and height), a prompt offers the option to rotate the photo(s) to the same orientation.
  • JPEG quality default value is now 80 instead of 100.
  • Addition of two built-in Presets ('Interior 3' and 'Smooth 3') under the Architecture category.
  • Bug fixed: On Open Panel to load images, thumbnail of selected file incorrectly displayed images in portrait mode
  • Bug fixed: Sliders on the Setting Adjustments and Finishing Touch windows were not working smoothly, especially with large images.
  • Bug fixed: Preset panel could become too small and non-resizable in some cases when a category was selected before leaving the previous Tone Mapping / Fusion session.
  • Bug fixed: Preset category selected for custom presets ("My presets" tab) was not remembered in the next session.
  • Bug fixed: After having closed then reopened the Presets panel, the '2-column' and 'zoom' controls on top of the Preset panel did not work anymore.

  • Bug fixed: Images with a very high aspect ratio caused a crash upon loading the tonemapping/fusion windows.

  • Bug fixed: On some computer configurations, the error message "Path not of legal form" could be returned when invoking the Batch Bracketed Photos.

  • Bug fixed: When Nikon D610 RAW files were loaded, resulting image had red lines on the border. Bug had been introduced in v5.0.2.

New in Photomatix Pro 5.0 Beta 7c (Nov 2, 2013)

  • New Tone Mapping method named Contrast Optimizer, which is is good at producing realistic-looking results while still enhancing shadows and highlights. Contrast Optimizer can be accessed via the Method combo-box or by selecting the 'Balanced' preset (second on the list).
  • New Exposure Fusion method called Fusion/Real-Estate, which is intended for scenes of interiors with a view out of the window on a sunny day. It replaces the Fusion/Realistic method available in batch mode in version 4.2.
  • Updates in Batch of Bracketed Photos: Ability to select a Preset directly from the main batch window, option to process with more than one presets or customised settings, and main Preprocessing Options are available from the main batch window.
  • Automatic deghosting offers additional options (Deghosting amount in the form of a slider and selection of base photo) that can be adjusted with the help of a preview.
  • More buttons added to Workflow Shortcuts panel. In particular, ability to come back in one-click to tone mapping / fusion to redo with other settings.
  • Option to enable Exposure Fusion when a single Raw file is opened.

  • Alignment by matching features (renamed into alignment for hand-held shots) made more robust.

New in Photomatix Pro 4.2.6 (May 15, 2013)

  • Updated Raw conversion to add support for recent camera models such as the Canon 6D, G15, S110, or Sony A99 among others.
  • Made the installer detect when the .NET framework 3.5 is missing (which may happen on Windows 8), and show dialogs to invite the user to install it.
  • Bug fixed: On the File Open dialog, thumbnail of the selected image was not displayed in the case of Raw files.
  • Bug fixed: On some configurations, running the Batch Bracketed Photos with Details Enhancer tone mapping resulted in a crash. Bug had been introduced in v4.2.5.
  • Bug fixed: Clicking on the Utilities menu after having saved an image resulted in an Unhandled Exception error.
  • Bug fixed: When the user does not have the right permission to access the "Application Data" directory, an error was generated upon loading the tonemapping/fusion windows.

  • New fusion method called Fusion/Realistic designed to produce natural-looking rendering of interiors with bright windows. This method is only accessible in batch mode and requires much longer processing times than the other methods.

  • Six new settings for tone mapping method Details Enhancer: Color Temperature, Saturation Highlights, Saturation Shadows, Highlights Smoothing, Shadows Smoothing and Shadows Clipping. Additionally, the setting Light Smoothing has been changed from a slider to radio buttons (in order to make it clear it can not take intermediate values) and the setting Microcontrast varies differently: the maximum value of 2 in previous versions is now the same as a value of 0 in version 2.5.
