New in Printix Client 1.3.1143.0 (Mar 23, 2022)

  • New features:
  • Windows 11 support. Print drivers and print driver configurations for Windows 11 is the same for Windows 10 x64. On the Drivers tab on the Print queue properties page the new term Windows covers Windows 10 ×64 and Windows 11 (there is no Windows 11 ×32). This is to reflect that print drivers and print driver configurations for Windows 11 are the same for Windows 10 ×64. It is only after update to Printix Client version 1.3.1101.0 or later, that a Windows 11 computer is listed as a Windows 11 system. Otherwise, it is listed as a Windows 10 x64 system.
  • Windows Server 2022 support. On the Drivers tab on the Print queue properties page the term Windows Server covers Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server 2022. On the Computers page (after an update to Printix Client version 1.3.1101.0 or later) the computers will now be listed as Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2022 respectively. Before they were listed as Windows Server system without the version year.
  • On the Printers page you can now control what printer information should be shown by selecting the appropriate View mode:
  • Default
  • This what you see today. An overview of printers, their status and location. Columns:
  • Queues, Status, Network, Address, Created, and Location.
  • Connection
  • Useful if you are using SNMP settings and different protocols. Columns:
  • Status, Network, Address, MAC address, SNMP configuration, and Protocol.
  • Printix Go
  • Useful for managing Printix Go on your printers. Columns:
  • Status, Installation, Vendor, Go version, Go configuration, and Sign in profile.
  • Customized
  • Create your own customized view mode with the printer information you select.
  • Printix Go Sign in dialog now features an eye icon that can be selected to show the digits of the entered ID code and PIN code. For security reasons dots are shown by default.
  • Improvements:
  • With the new print queue setting Exempt from secure print organizations who otherwise wish to enforce secure print can now exempt selected print queues from this. This is relevant for label printers, printers in private offices, and printers setup with the Printix Redirector to submit documents into Kofax Control Suite and third party Follow/Pull printing solutions. New registration of Home office print queues are automatically Exempt from secure print.
  • Enhanced Allow computer to lookup users to support Azure Virtual Desktop/Azure AD DS environments.
  • Printix Go Konica Minolta now support Sign in with card.
  • Printix Go Ricoh has faster Sign in with ID code and PIN code. Improvement is most noticeable on older Ricoh printers (SOP Generation 2).
  • In Printix App for iOS/iPadOS the AirPrint password can now be copied to clipboard by selecting the Copy button.
  • Printix App on iPhone 7 and above with iOS 13 or later, now support Register NFC tag.
  • Fixes:
  • Printix App for Android and iOS/iPadOS. Under rare circumstances spinner was left running forever, requiring a restart.
  • Printix App for Android and iOS/iPadOS. Selecting Printer ID method did not always open the page as expected.
  • Printix App for Android version 2.1.5. Sign in with another method (including Okta, OneLogin and Email) did not work and would just present a screen with the title Sign in.
  • Printix App for Android 2.1.5 and 2.1.6:
  • Diagnostics page is now included (was excluded in previous version 2.1.2).
  • Dark mode (black theme) is now ignored completely as texts and graphics would otherwise be hard to read.
  • QR code scanning could appear broken with camera view blocked with a solid dark background. Scanning did however work if camera was pointed to the QR code. The background became solid dark after the first restart of the Printix App after installation.
  • Sign in blocked by spinner. Printix App no longer publishes auth.printix.net in Supported web addresses. Happened if the user was presented with an Open with question and then selected Printix App instead of browser. The Open with question is not asked with this version, as Printix App does not publish auth.printix.net in Supported web addresses. There is no need for the work-around, where the user would: 1) On the phone open Settings. 2) Select Apps. 3) Select Printix App. 4) Select Set as default. 5) Select Open supported links. 6) Select In other app.
  • If the Printix Chromebook configuration file configures tenant and tenantID, this will be used if a user selects Sign in.
  • Resolve issue with Printix Redirector and printing of documents larger than 2 Gb.
  • Mac computers running macOS 11 BigSur are now reported as macOS 11 instead of macOS 10.16. Mac computers running macOS 12 Monterey are now reported as macOS 12 instead of macOS 10.17.
  • Printix Client version 1.3.1099.0 would not install printers on Windows 11 and selecting Printers... on the Printix Client menu would open window with no printers and the text: No printers to add.
  • SNMPv3 configuration with SHA encryption corrected.
  • Printix Client with improved loading of third-party components.
  • Printix Client cached list of printers (print queues) could under rare circumstances get corrupted and end up emtpy. Signing out and in of Printix Client or restarting the Printix Service would solve the issue.
  • Printix Client version 1.3.1113.0 (from 2022-03-10) and later prevents remote code execution (RCE) as reported in vulnerability CVE-2022-25089.
  • Printix Client MSI package version 1.3.1139.0 (from 2022-03-14) and later addresses vulnerability CVE-2022-25090. If you are deploying the MSI via Microsoft Endpoint Manager or a similiar tool, you are strongly advised to update the MSI file to use version 1.3.1143.0 (from 2022-03-19) or later
  • Printix Client version 1.3.1139.0 the Printix Service did not always start after an update. A restart of the computer solved the problem. Fixed in Printix Client version 1.3.1143.0.

  • Printix Go support for new card reader: Inepro SCR708.I RFID Reader.
  • Improvements:
  • To prevent unintended automatic installation of print queues, the Print queue properties page now shows the warning text: ALL computers will get the print queue if both of these are checked: a) Add print queue automatically and b) Via the cloud.
  • The print queue property Via the cloud can now only be modified by System managers and not by Site managers.
  • The Software page now lists the version of Printix Client, Printix Redirector and Printix Configurator.
  • Fixes:
  • Creation of a Printix Go configuration would sometimes report Validation failed. Issue was fixed on 2020-10-06 and deployed same evening. Printix Go updates automatically. No further action required.
  • On Printix App on iPadOS the AirPrint password menu was missing, but now it is back to allow Mobile print.
  • All manuals updated to reflect that Google G Suite has changed name to Google Workspace.

New in Printix Client 1.3.143.0 (May 25, 2018)

  • GDPR - Changes made to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation:
  • On the Subscription page there is a new Legal documents tab. Here it is possible to accept the Data Processing Agreement and see other legal documents.
  • Users with the Role as System manager will by default receive Notifications by email about Data breach and Updated legal documents. System managers can opt out of these notifications on the Setup tab on the User properties page.
  • On the History page you can now see commands issued remotely by Printix support.
  • Users are now deleted permanently when they are not part of any Printix Homes.
  • New features:
  • Printix for Chromebook. Allows users to select Printix printers that support PDF and are configured to print Via the cloud. The document is uploaded to the Printix Cloud and then forwarded to a Printix Client computer on the printer's network. The document remains secure during the transfer over the Internet as the document itself and the communication are both encrypted. You must use your G Suite domain's business address with Gmail. Available as an extension for Google Chrome version 63 or later.
  • Possible to edit the Location of multiple printers.
  • Data can be extracted and then be used with for example Microsoft Power BI to build reports. Requires application development knowledge and experience with PowerShell and RESTful programming. See also: How to extract data.
  • Improvements:
  • On the Print queue properties page's Computers tab it is now possible to Search on computers and you can Delete the print queue on the selected computers.
  • If the Groups page is empty it shows the text: Only groups added to print queues will appear.
  • Instead of using the printer model as the default value for the printer name, the Printix Client can use alternatives. For example, the printer’s hostname (works for HP) or the printer’s device name (works for Lexmark). Requires that Printix Support enable populatePrinterName for you.
  • Fixes:
  • Print driver configurations was not always uploaded and applied.
  • Print driver configuration enhanced to support stapling for the print driver Canon iR-ADV C3325/3330 UFR II.
  • Sometimes print queues were missing from the Printers dialog in Printix Client. Now the Printix Client ensures it always has information about the printer that is referenced by the print queue. Restarting the Printix Service or signing out and in to the Printix Client resolved the issue.
  • If a computer was restarted while using a gateway that was not part of a network, the Printix Client did not reflect it was on an Unknown network, as it was supposed to do.
  • Printix Client's parser module modified to resolve "out of memory" that was seen when printing with the Windows print driver: Brother HL-L6200DW series.

New in Printix Client 1.3.110.0 (Apr 16, 2018)

  • New features:
  • Printix for Chromebook (Beta test). You must use your G Suite domain's business address with Gmail. Available as an extension for Google Chrome version 63 or later. Allows users to select Printix printers that support PDF and are configured to print Via the cloud. The document is uploaded to the Printix Cloud and then forwarded to a Printix Client computer on the printer's network. The document remains secure during the transfer over the Internet as the document itself and the communication are both encrypted.
  • On a per group membership basis you can now control these print queue settings: Exclusive access and Add print queue automatically. You will find these on the Groups tab on the Print queue properties page. To better handle organizations with 1000s of groups, you are now indirectly selecting which groups should be synchronized as you Add groups to a print queue to enable Exclusive access and/or Add print queue automatically for the members of those groups. Only the selected groups are synchronized, and only changes are synchronized.
  • Support for Google groups. Use Google groups to control access to print queues and deploy these based on users' group membership.
  • The Printers page now loads faster and support these Filters: Network and Created. Use the Created filter to see printers added within the previous 3, 6, 12 or 24 hours. You can sort on ID, Printer name, Created and Location.
  • Improvements:
  • Printix Cloud now communicates directly with the Printix Client on each computer. Before communication was via select Printix Clients that acted as proxy. As a result, configuration data changes are now being pushed almost without delay to Printix Clients. Furthermore, documents can now be released from a computer on an Unknown network. The new version no longer uses TCP port 21337.
  • Working with print drivers and print driver configurations is now easier with the new controls on the Drivers tab.
  • Update print queues on single or multiple computers with a single click.
  • Because the drivers uploaded to your Printix driver store are compatible across the different macOS editions (10.13, ..., 10.8), the Drivers page now just has one generic macOS.
  • On macOS the MacService is now renamed to the more appropriate PrintixService. That way, a search on Printix in the macOS Activity Monitor will show both processes: Printix Client and Printix Service.
  • When you release anywhere documents, your choice of printers is now filtered to show only printers reachable from the computer where the document resides. If the selected printer does not support PDF, you may be asked to Select print queue (if there is more than one).
  • Fixes:
  • Unexpected appearance of the Printix Client Sign in dialog. Under special and rare conditions, where the computer had been without network connection for at least 10 minutes, the user's access token would unintentionally expire, and this again would cause Printix Client to unexpectedly present the Sign in dialog to the user. If the user closed the dialog, without signing in, printing to the computer's Printix printers would stop working. Printing would start working again when the user signed in to Printix Client.
  • Changes to a user's group membership is now picked up dynamically by the Printix Client.
  • Convert print queues per network had reversed logic. If you checked Yes, it would not convert, and if you clicked No, it would convert. The global setting worked as intended.
  • During conversion of print queues multiple undesired copies of print queues could be created if Printer name without printer ID was selected.
  • An uninstall of Printix Client now converts all Printix print queues back to normal network print queues. Before print queues only got restored if: 1) The print queue pointed to a printer on the same network as the computer, or 2) The print queue was configured to print via the cloud.
  • On the Print queues page, Filter: Computers 0 - X, sometimes appeared unintentionally.
  • If TLS 1.0 was disabled on the computer, Printix Client would be stuck in: Connecting to service. Seen at customer with Windows Server 2008 R2.
  • Printix Redirector now also works when documents are printed via the cloud.
  • Print queues pointing to Printix printers are now registered for both Windows and macOS. Before print queues were not registered for macOS, unless they were printing through Printix.

New in Printix Client 1.2.236.0 (Jan 3, 2018)

  • New features:
  • Remote print queue management: In Printix Administrator open the new Print queues tab on the Computer properties page to see what print queues are installed and managed by Printix on the computer. From here you can remotely Add, Update and Delete Printix managed print queues on the computer.
  • Convert print queues can now be controlled per network.
  • Improvements:
  • New Create print queue dialog with the option to check if the created print queue should be Active or not.
  • Fixes:
  • If a proxy server was used to access the Internet, the Printix Client would not always detect the new proxy settings as the computer connected to another network. Work around involved restarting the computer or the Printix Service. New proxy settings are now detected in a few seconds.
  • Shared print queues (Example: Reception on SERVER) installed on Windows computers are now converted if there is an identically named print queue (Reception) and a registered printer (ASD) in Printix. The printer name of the converted print queue is without the last part (on SERVER) and will typically have the three-letter printer ID at the end (Reception ASD). Print queues are still not converted on Windows servers.
  • On macOS some print drivers (Kyocera Taskalfa 5551ci and RICOH MP C3003) did not install.
  • When a Windows printer was installed, the part of the print driver configuration settings that were configured via the Printing defaults button on the Advanced tab (pre-printer defaults), was not applied consistently.
  • The process of adding a print driver configuration did not allow sufficient time for the print driver to be installed, and therefore you could experience that the Print driver configuration dialog would close unexpectedly. A second attempt would normally succeed, as the print driver would now be installed on the computer.
  • For the Brother HL-L5200DW series print driver, the tray selection was unintentionally reset to auto after a restart of the computer. This happened if the print queue was configured in Printix Administrator to Print in black by default.
  • Computers' virtual network adapters with empty IPv6 addresses (::) are no longer reported to Printix Cloud, as this could cause computers to be deleted because of non-unique MAC addresses. Seen at customer using Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.
  • Printing via Lexmark X790 Series PS3 driver on Windows 10 did not work because of issue with parser.
  • The number of Computers that have a print queue installed and managed by Printix was not always calculated correctly.
  • The Save-O-Meter showed percentages which were too high. Algorithm has been adjusted.

New in Printix Client 1.2.181.0 (Dec 10, 2017)

  • New features:
  • Use Filters to focus on specific data. See animation of how to filter users based on their Role. The Computers page has these Filters: Network, Type (Desktop, Laptop, Server), OS (Windows, macOS), and System (specific Windows and macOS editions).
  • Pagination is now used on the Users and Computers page so these pages does not load slowly when there are 1.000s of users and computers. Use the arrows at the bottom of the page to navigate to the previous page and next page. 50 items are loaded per page.
  • Download printer ID signs as a CSV file and create and print your customized printer ID signs on adhesive labels.
  • Improvements:
  • To reduce administration and to ensure the Computers page does not become cluttered with decommissioned and BYOD computers, computers are now automatically deleted if they have not been active for 2 months. If the computer becomes active again, then it is automatically registered, just like any other new computer.
  • To help with the migration to Printix Cloud the Printix Administrator Manual has an updated Next steps section tailored to different environments and cloud needs.
  • Fixes:
  • Printix Client for Windows updated to version 1.2.181.0 as the incorrect classification as malware prevented download of version 1.2.180.0. If the PrintixService.exe has been blocked by Windows Defender or another Antivirus product, you have to make exclusions in your Antivirus product.

New in Printix Client 1.2.180.0 (Nov 15, 2017)

  • Improvements:
  • After a completed Discover printers you will see either "Found N printers" or "Found no new printers". Click OK to close the dialog.
  • The Microsoft account used to Enable Azure/Office 365 authentication is no longer required to have an email configured.
  • If you are already signed in to Printix Client, the menu will show your name. Example: Sign in as another user (Signed in as John Smith).
  • With iOS 11 or later, you can use the camera app to scan the QR code on the printer ID sign. The printer ID sign no longer includes the name of the user who printed it. When releasing anywhere documents you can select printer regardless of the printer's status.
  • Fixes:
  • Sign in on Azure AD domain joined Windows 10 computers is now automatic again. It got broken in Printix Client version 1.2.88.0 (2017-09-15) and required the user to click Sign in with Microsoft.
  • Releasing print anywhere documents did not work if processing was required and was done by an existing print queue. The Printix App would be stuck in the state Working on it. Releasing print anywhere documents did work if the print queue had to be added. It also worked if the printer supported PDF printing.
  • Print driver configurations that were automatically registered as a result of Discover printers, could not be modified and was not being applied when the corresponding print queue was installed.
  • The Printix Client will now say No printers to add when there is no printers to be added. Before it would say Setup is not complete.

New in Printix Client 1.2.151.0 (Oct 23, 2017)

  • Improvements:
  • Printix Client: If you change the name of a print queue in Printix Administrator, the name of the corresponding print queue on computers will also change within 10 minutes.
  • Printix Client: Releasing print anywhere documents from another company network, now also works if the printer does not support PDF printing. The print queue must have Enable printing via the cloud checked. If needed, the print queue is added automatically on the computer, where the document is stored. Adding the print queue on the computer may take 1-5 minutes depending on the print driver. During this time the Printix App will show the state Working on it, before transitioning to Printing and then Printed. The print queue is kept after printing, so it does not have to be added again when subsequent print anywhere documents are released to this printer.
