New in Recover Keys 8.0.3.109 (Apr 29, 2014)

  • Another approach to network scan:
  • Agent deployment instead of remote registry, which increases performance significantly and reduced network traffic even more significantly. Furthermore, more data is fetched, which wasn't available via registry before.
  • Increase in performance of scanning network PC varies from 10 to 50 times (depending on network speed and amount of data transferred).
  • Network scan performance:
  • Decrease of local network traffic used varies from 5 to 100 times (depending on network speed and amount of data transferred).
  • Local traffic during network scan:
  • Scan for Windows 8 product key located in BIOS
  • Applicable for Widows 8 OEMs, laptops and PCs with pre-installed Windows 8.
  • Faster and better "Deep scan" filtering:
  • In the last version we introduced experimental "Deep scan" feature and it was positively reviewed by our users. In this version we improved deep scan a lot in both performance and data filtering, deep scan is now faster and filters out more unrelated to product keys data.
  • Windows Activation status:
  • Recover Keys can now show if your Windows is activated or not.
  • Shows last 5 characters of Office 2013:
  • Unfortunately last 5 chars are all there is stored by Microsoft. But 5 is better than nothing, right? For more information visit this page.
  • Scan for "Installed software" and "Installed updates":
  • Some of our customers are using Recover Keys for network audit and were requesting such functionality. We hope everybody will benefit from these features. By default both features are turned off, but you can enable them in "Options" dialog.
  • MSP license introduced:
  • MSP (Managed Service Provider) License is the best option for IT service providers. There's no limitation on the number of clients this license will be used with. Being a Service Provider you can install the purchased software at the clients side for inventory purposes for any time limit. There's no limitation on the number of PCs you can scan. MSP license is same as Enterprise license, the only difference is that Enterprise license is limited to 1 company only, while MSP license allows you to install/use it on clients PCs.
  • More "Deep Scan" options:
  • Available in Options dialog - advanced tab - last 2 options, as shown in the picture below. Product keys might be stored in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and Microsoft folder in registry, but contents of these folders are massive, and it will affect performance of deep scan. There is small chance that something useful will be found there during deep scan - that's why they are not enabled by default.
  • Options dialog - advanced tab
  • Export to folder
  • Now you can export to a folder where for each computer scanned new file will be created (with computer name). For instance, if you will scan 2 PCs with names PC1 and PC2 and want to export to Excel there will be 2 files created PC1.xls and PC2.xls
  • Recover Keys - save to folder
  • Shotgun-mode scan improved:
  • Shotgun-mode scan performance was improved and now it is available via command-line version as well.
  • License files:
  • Some programs are activated with binary license files instead of product keys. For such programs Recover Keys will show Base64 encoded version of binary file.
  • Resolved host name in CSV and tab-separated files:
  • New column is introduced in both CSV and TSF files, called "Descriptive computer name", which will include both IP and computer name (in necessary) when scanning network.

New in Recover Keys 7.0.3.84 (Apr 24, 2013)

  • 4500+ software programs supported. About 1000 new programs were added to our list of supported programs, since last version of Recover Keys.
  • Deep scan. After experimental "Shot-gun" mode scan, we're introducing "Deep-scan" mode, which looks into Windows registry for suspicious data entries, like SerialNumber, RegNo, ProductKey, etc. Since no matter how many programs we will add into Recover Keys database it will never be enough, as there are millions of them. It will work not only for local scan but also for network, hive, reg file scan as well.
  • Smarter scanner. Our scanner became smarter, now after clicking "Scan local computer", Recover Keys will determine if any other (not currently running) Windows operating systems are installed on other or external hard-drives and automatically scan them as well.
  • Delete license info. Some apps even after you uninstall them still keep their registration information. Now you can remove this data from the system using right-mouse click in Recover Keys.
  • Improved command-line version. Command-line (CLI) version now supports many more options.
  • New languages. Available in 24 languages.

New in Recover Keys 6.0.2.63 (Jun 6, 2012)

  • 3600+ software programs supported. About 500 new programs were added to our list of supported programs, since last version of Recover Keys.
  • New license: Portable. This license is not limited on number of PCs used within one company, but does not support network scan. This license can be installed on USB-thumb drive or simply copied.
  • Dramatically optimized scan speed. Local scan is now 8 times faster. Significant amount of time can be saved while scanning large network.
  • New 'Smart scan' feature. Checks 'boot.ini' and if PC has more than one Windows OS installed - it will scan all of them.
  • Improved export functions. Everything according to RFC specifications and better looks.
  • Export to Excel, Word and RTF will work without Office. There is no need to have Microsoft Office installed anymore in order for export to Word, Rich text format and Excel work.
  • No more limitations for export functions. Every export format is now available in all licenses, from Single to Enterprise.
  • View mode. You can switch between old look and new look which has just 3 columns (Product, Type, Value)
  • Improved hive scan. Increased speed and fixed bugs.
  • Simultaneous hive scan. Scan up to 10 hives at the same time.
  • Portable version in one file. Portable version (former USB-stick version) is no longer require any other file expect self generated 'settings.ini'. All required files, including localization are now embedded in resources.
  • 64-bit version is available. For those who wanna use power of 64 bit CPUs.
  • Network scan changes:
  • Auto-start "Remote registry" service. There is no longer need to have "Remote registry" service started on network PC. Recover Keys will do it for you automatically.
  • Test connection. Not sure if entered correct password or is firewall configured properly? Now you can test connection before connecting.
  • Ping before connect option. In case of scanning large IP range or list of computers ability to 'ping' remote PC before connecting is essential to speed up process.
  • Fixed 'open files' problem. Which could cause "Multiple connections to server are not possible..." error. Now after job is done program disconnects from network PC properly.
  • Fixed problem with scanning network PC when user is not logged-in. Since Windows mounts user's HKCU registry hive after login - not all keys were found. Now Recover Keys will mount everything automatically.
