  • Log backups now use the date/time as an extension instead of a counter and “.bak” extension.
  • Added a new “Reflection” plugin under “Effects” for screen shots (allows you to add a reflection of the screen shot using specific settings).
  • The “Maximum characters for captured feedback:” setting now defaults to 500 characters.
  • The “The border size to use for the preview screens:” setting now defaults to a border size of 3 (much easier to see).
  • Added new global hot key “Select the hot key to capture a background screen shot:”, which can be used to force capture a background screen shot.
  • Added new setting “Select the screen shot saving size:” to “Saving Formats” under the “Settings” area (defaults to “Ignore”).
  • The Resize plugin is now less blurry when changing making an image smaller.
  • Fixed a fault that caused the sliders to appear slightly out of place on some of the windows. They should all appear centred now.
  • Added “Balance” support to the “Video” and “Audio” player windows (with adjustments to the UI, Tooltips, positions, etc).
  • Fixed a crash that occurred in the “View Screen Shot” window when pressing “Delete” (when the menu item was not visible).
  • All extra controls on the “View Screen Shot” window are now disabled and hidden when previewing a capture type.
  • All windows now have an additional darker and smaller border around them (so they can be seen more clearly when overlapping each other).

  • All “Opacity” (except where changing levels is required) is now shown as a percentage (instead of a maximum value of 255.
  • Fixed a fault that stopped the percentage symbol being shown in the “Sharpen” plugin options.
  • Fixed some spacing issues on the main window for some of the setting areas.
  • Fixed a fault that caused the checkmark/circles of the check box and option box fields to not show the highlight colour when then mouse is over them.
  • The settings drop down areas are now fully styled and no longer rely and the default Windows colours.

  • Silent audio is now more accurate and no longer contains invalid audio samples (being read as not silent).
  • Minor renames to a few of the settings to make it more clear about the values they accept.
  • Added new setting “Allow logging of background screen shots” to the “Recording” section under “Settings” (defaults to false).
  • The Video and Audio player windows now show the total duration in the title bar.
  • Logging support when stopping, pausing and resuming recording (allowing better audit trails).
  • Project upgraded to .NET 4.7.2 and Windows XP, Vista and 7 support dropped.

  • Fixed a fault that allowed the same hot key to be used more than once (in the “Settings” area on the main window).
  • Fixed some minor grammar issues in the “About” window when checking for updates.
  • Fixed a fault that caused the spacing used between screen shot previews to be smaller than expected, causing some minor overlaps.
  • Added setting “Select border colour for the preview screens:” to “Preview Screens” (defaults to “Red”) the "Settings" area.
  • Added setting “Select where the preview screens should be placed:” to “Preview Screens” (defaults to “Top Right”) the "Settings" area.
  • Added setting “The border size to use for the preview screens:” to “Preview Screens” (defaults to 1) the "Settings" area.
  • Plugin effects applied during recording sessions are now also applied to the preview screens (if available).
  • Preview screens are no longer added when feedback is added (with notes) to the screen shot (due to them getting in the way of the intended information).
  • Fixed a fault that caused the selected region of another screen to include parts of the other screens.
  • When recording the selected region, you can no longer include a preview of the other screens in the screen shots (violates the privacy settings).
  • Fixed a fault that caused the full view of the other screens to be shown in the preview screens (even when the working area is your intended capture area).
  • Reworded all the setting areas, using uppercase characters where needed and removed the word “setting” where required.

  • Fixed a fault that caused straight edges to appear for side buttons on the main window when hovering over them.
  • Fixed a fault that allowed adding a capture type of “Background”, which is an internal name used for background screen shots.
  • Fixed some positing faults with buttons on various windows (only slightly off, but still noticeable).
  • Moved the clipboard menu actions for “Take A Screen Shot” under a new “Clipboard” sub menu.
  • Added hot key support to Stop, Restart an Pause recording (all hot keys are now under a new “Settings” area called “Global hot key settings”).

  • Added support to the “File Dialog” window to show the associated icons for each file (reverts to a default if not available).
  • Added support to select the icon size via a new “View” context menu (file list). Supports Small, Medium, Large and Tile icons, defaulting to medium.
  • When a text field is in error mode (its red), changing the text in said text field will turn off erroring mode.
  • All error messages shown for text fields are now shown as a popup just below the field (instead of in the title bar, which much cleaner).
  • Fixed a fault that caused files to appear in directories they are not stored in.
  • The “Pick Colour” window now shows the title for the area that has opened it (slightly more user friendly).
  • Fixed a fault that caused the files shown in the “File Dialog” window to not be in the right order.
  • The drive names in the “File Dialog” window are now shown in bold.
  • Fixed a fault that caused the sub-menus for context menus (and regular menus) to use straight edges instead of round.
  • Fixed a fault that caused a strange looking focus rectangle to appear around any list where an item is deleted (using the shortcut “Del”).

  • Fixed a fault that prevented key-stroke finding support from working correctly in the “File Dialog” window.

  • Removed the buttons at the bottom of the “Video Player” and “Audio Player” windows (now title bar buttons, allowing area viewing space).
  • Fixed a fault that allowed list items that are disabled to be included in the key stroke searches (causing the selection to disappear).
  • The settings area on the main window now has a context menu, with support for expanding/contracting all sections.
  • The side tabs on the main window now have icons just above the text (the image preview area size has been decreased slightly in size).

  • Background screen shots now show “N/A” instead of “(background screen shot, no notes captured)”.
  • Added a new styled “Properties” window that is shown for recorded session screen shots (allows some additional configuration).
  • Fixed a fault that prevented Check For Updates from finding a version that is no longer in test mode.
  • Clicking on the path selector in the “File Dialog” window and pressing backspace on the keyboard will take you back on folder level.
  • Fixed a fault that prevented the split grabber on the “File Dialog” window from filling the entire area.
  • The default subject used in Email Templates is now “Enter subject…”.
  • Fixed a fault that caused the “File Dialog” window to load the file list twice when loading (causing it to load slowly in some cases).

  • The “Filter” plugin effects now ask for a percentage level before applying the effect (they cannot be used as effects anymore while recording).
  • Added new effect plugins that can be used across all areas of Sideo:
  • 1. Filters - Yellow (converts the image to a filtered yellow effect).
  • 2. Filters - Cyan (converts the image to a filtered cyan effect).
  • 3. Filters - Magenta (converts the image to a filtered magenta effect).
  • 4. Filters - Black (converts the image to a filtered black effect).
  • 5. Filters - White (converts the image to a filtered white effect).
  • Moved the “Rotate 90°” plugin into a new category called “Rotate” and renamed it to “90°”, while adding the following:
  • 1. 180°- Rotates the image 180 degrees.
  • 2. 270°- Rotates the images 270 degrees.
  • All numerical controls for plugins that have a maximum/minimum value (like percentages) now use a slider control (much easier to set).
  • Fixed a fault that caused a horrible focus effect to be shown around the sliders.
  • The “View Screen Shot” window now shows the “•” character at the end of the title when the screen shot has been changed.
  • Renamed the “Colour Picker” window to “Pick Colour”.

New in Sideo 1.0.0.0 Beta 2 (Jun 30, 2019)

  • When checking for updates, the beta version of the software is now also checked to ensure you are on the most recent test version
  • Added new setting “Also check for pre-release (beta) versions” (off by default) to the “Settings” area
  • Added a new shortcut key “F5” to the “Refresh” context menu item on the “File Dialog” window
  • The sections in the “Settings” are can now be opened/closed (remembered between uses). Only “Recording Settings” is open by default
  • Fixed a fault that prevented the changes for “Capture Types” from loading the next time Sideo is opened

  • Improved error logging in the file management areas (if something goes wrong, the logs should be a clear indication of the problem).
  • Version numbers now only show the Major, Minor and Revision values (build value is not required).
  • Added new setting "Allow plugin effects to be applied to recording session screen shots" (off by default) to the "Settings" area.
  • Added a new window called "Select Plugins", which will allow you to specify the plugins you want to apply to each recording session screen shot.

  • 3. Filters - Blue (converts the image to a filtered blue effect).
  • 4. Adjustments - Contrast (allows you to adjust the contrast by a custom level).
  • 5. Adjustments - Gamma (allows you to adjust the gamma levels for red, green and blue).
  • 6. Effects - Pixelate (pixelates the image by a desired pixel size).
  • 7. Effects - Jitter (moves every pixel by a specific degree).
  • Fixed a fault that caused the filter categories (in all areas) to appear in non-alphabetical order.
  • When previewing a video using the built in “Video Player”, the “Save As” option is no longer available. Will be available for future work.
  • Added new setting “Always write the session details (video, audio, etc) to a ZIP file” (on by default). If turned off, only the video will be saved.
  • All drop-down lists that contain categories now indent the items listed under them to make it clearer which one they belong to.
  • The “File Dialog” window will now automatically update when it detects changes to the currently opened folder (or drives have been changed).
  • Fixed a fault that caused images to appear out of place when recording only the active windows (when viewing the saved video).
  • The plugin effect “Category” has been changed to an enum field called “CategoryType”. You can set it to “CategoryType.None” if it does not require one.

  • Fixed a large range of errors occurring on start up (for the first time) when trying to read data storage.
  • Fixed a fault that caused empty “Frames” and “Snippets” folders to be created in the root folder with nothing in it.
  • Fixed a fault that caused blank context menu items to appear in the “Edit Email Template” window when there are no snippets available.
