  • Syslog Forwarding:
  • We added the syslog forwarding feature in Syslog Watcher 5.0. Syslog Watcher can work as a syslog relay and forward incoming syslog messages to other syslog servers. The syslog forwarding supports message filtration and selection of the syslog server depending on message properties.
  • Revised User Interface:
  • We refreshed the user interface of Syslog Watcher Manager. Visual appearance and structure of the user interface windows were improved for better user experience.
  • Storage Viewer:
  • Syslog Watcher 5.0 can open a syslog storage folder without the hassle of changing the server settings and restarting Syslog Watcher Manager a few times. Click the Open button, choose a folder, and start working with syslog messages collected before or backed-up storage files.
  • Updated Settings:
  • We revised the syslog server settings. We also changed the structure of the configuration files. The color rules for the Grid View as well as the HTML/CSS template for the Message Details view are now stored in the server’s configuration file so that it can be used remotely.
  • Licensing:
  • The initial installation of Syslog Watcher 5.0 includes a free 30-day Pro License key for the software evaluation.

  • Syslog Watcher 4.2 has a new syslog storage format. It provides higher performance while writing received syslog messages. The storage conversion into the new format is performed automatically when the new version starts for the first time.
  • New Tabs (Sources, Backups, Server Log):
  • Three new tabs with a grid view were added for easier use. The Sources tab contains information on all syslog sources that are registered in the storage. The Backups tab contains records on successful backups or backups that were not completed. The Server Log tab provides a quicker access to Syslog Watcher work log.

  • The main improvement of this version is a possibility to export syslog messages into a database. Syslogs are exported into the database immediately after they are received. Using of standard interface ODBS to access the DB allows the use of any DB engine. In addition, the SQL commands used for writing syslog messages into the database can be edited. This provides additional setting flexibility and does not restrict the inner database structure.
  • Enhanced Report Generation
  • New settings for generating reports have been added to the present version. Now you can choose the exact information to be included in the report. Additionally, the report may include not only statistical information but also all received messages as tables. The messages are grouped according to their severity level.
  • Improved E-mail Capability
  • The mechanism of e-mail alerts has been updated completely. The authorization type may be specified explicitly when connecting to the e-mail server.

  • Extended Support of National Languages:
  • The setting to explicitly specify a codepage for parsing of the received syslogs was added. This way, the syslog messages containing event text in UTF-8 format, can be processed correctly. The improvements were also applied to storing and internal processing of text containing national symbols. This improved result in case of exporting such messages to XML-files, including them into reports and e-mail alert.
  • Processing of Syslog Message Contents:
  • Processing of textual contents of syslogs is improved in the new version. Apart from the possibility to remove unnecessary trailing symbols and nonprintable symbols in the message body, a possibility to resolve IP addresses appeared. Syslog Watcher recognizes addresses within the contents of syslogs and resolves them into DNS names.
  • Improved Report Generation:
  • Options for reports generating were enhanced. Now you can analyze syslogs for some period of time, specified in hours, days or weeks. There is a possibility to specify what severity levels to be included into the reports.
  • One more big innovation is generating reports without launching of the viewer, just by use of command line parameters. Thus it is possible to create reports according to a schedule. For reports generating you can use all power of Windows Task Manager that enables you to make any necessary schedule.
