TabIt Changelog

What's new in TabIt 2.03

Apr 8, 2011
  • For better compatibility with Windows Vista, TabIt no longer uses "C:\Program Files\TabIt\Songs" as the default location for tablature files; instead, it now creates a folder named "TabIt Tabs" inside your My Documents folder for this purpose. If any files are found in the old location, TabIt will offer to move them to the new folder.
  • The Open and Save dialogs now default to the "TabIt Tabs" folder. This can be changed by going to Tools | Options.
  • The help file has been rebuilt to work on Windows Vista.
  • Various fixes.

New in TabIt 2.02 (Apr 8, 2011)

  • Added new "Tap Tempo" feature that helps take the guesswork out of determining a song's tempo. To access it, click the Tap... button in dialogs where tempos are entered (such as Song | Tempo).
  • Extended the Play | Play Notes While Editing option to support a third state: All Tracks. When All Tracks is selected, notes on the current track will be played, as well as any notes on other tracks that line up with the cursor position.
  • Added new key combinations Ctrl+Alt+Left and Ctrl+Alt+Right, which move the cursor to the previous/next staff break.
  • Added new View | Toolbars | Menu Bar Spans Row option, which controls whether the menu bar spans an entire row. If unchecked, it is possible to drag toolbars onto the same row as the menu bar.
  • The Move Note Up/Down commands (Ctrl+Up and Ctrl+Down) now move effects in addition to moving notes.
  • Invoking the Clear Track Effects command (Ctrl+Backspace) when there is a selection now clears track effects from the entire selection.
  • Fixed printing issue with staff breaks showing up at the beginning of rows.
  • Various fixes.

New in TabIt 2.01 (Apr 8, 2011)

  • Track effects can now be added/removed from a single dialog via the new Create | Track Effects command. See the Keyboard Commands topic for some useful keyboard shortcuts.
  • Track effect tooltips now linger on the screen longer

New in TabIt 2.0 Final (Apr 8, 2011)

  • Removed the half-second delay before track effect tooltips were shown.
  • Various fixes.

New in TabIt 2.0 Beta 2 (Apr 8, 2011)

  • The fonts TabIt uses can now be customized to your liking via Tools | Options.
  • When cutting or clearing and the selection contains alternate-time regions, the alternate-time regions will now be removed.
  • When removing an alternate-time region it no longer requires that the region be empty of notes. Also, it now highlights the region before you click OK so you can see exactly what will be removed.
  • Instrument Change track effects can now select a new bank in addition to a new instrument.
  • Increased the maximum repeat count from 15 to 255.
  • MIDI export: Added option to include Bank Select controller messages in the exported MIDI file.
  • Text export: Removed the "This was created with TabIt" line.
  • Miscellaneous tweaks.

New in TabIt 2.0 Beta 1 (Apr 8, 2011)

  • New "alternate time regions" feature, which allows you to create triplets, 32nd notes, and the like without having to resort to tempo changes. Alternate time regions are created/deleted via the Create | Alternate-Time Region menu command.
  • New special effect controllers (accessible on the Playback tab of Song | Track Properties, or via the Create | Track Effect | Controller Change command):
  • Pitch bend controller, which can be used to simulate bends and slides up to 24 semitones (2 octaves). The range is -2400 to 2400; each increment of 100 = 1 semitone.
  • Modulation controller, which creates a vibrato effect. The range is from 0 to 127.
  • Multiple track effects can now be attached to a single space:
  • A "+" sign is shown when there are multiple track effects associated with a space. Rest the mouse cursor over it to see what they are.
  • Currently, Edit | Clear Track Effect (Ctrl+Backspace) removes all track effects from a space. The ability to selectively remove track effects is planned for the future.
  • New option to make the mouse wheel scroll vertically instead of horizontally by default. (Shift changes the direction.)
  • The recently opened files list on the File menu can now hold up to 10 items.
  • A double bar line is now shown at the end of the last bar.
  • The Bar Line command (|) now creates a bar line before the cursor instead of after.
  • Created repeats signs and staff breaks are now associated with the bar containing the cursor. It no longer inserts a new bar line when creating a repeat sign or staff break.
  • The last space on a track is now selectable.
  • A space can now have a repeat start directly before it and a repeat sign (or other bar line) directly after it. Previously, this was impossible; one would overwrite the other.
  • Shift+Insert and Ctrl+Shift+Insert no longer push notes/bar lines off the edge; additional room is now added at the end to ensure that doesn't happen.
  • Shift+Delete and Ctrl+Shift+Delete now remove a space from the end after pulling the bar lines left.
  • When playing, it now stops automatically when it reaches the end.
  • MIDI export: The "Ticks to Delay at End of File" option has been removed. Use the Add Bars and Remove Unused Bars commands to adjust the amount of silence at the end.
  • Text export: The Line Width setting now defaults to 76 instead of 78. Many bugs have also been fixed. For example, in TabIt 1.x it sometimes wrapped bars before the margin was reached.
