UN-SCAN-IT Changelog

What's new in UN-SCAN-IT 7.0

Apr 3, 2013
  • Zoomable Digitizing Screen:
  • The digitizing screen can now be zoomed (1x, 2x, 4x, 8x) to improve placement of the setup icons, and also provide a more detailed view of the digitized data points.
  • Scalable Image Control:
  • The main image view can now be set to maintain the aspect ratio of the original image. This eliminates any stretching effect when the image is fit to the main digitizing screen.
  • Vertical Data Shifter:
  • A graphical data shifter tool is integrated in the digitizing screen to allow selected digitized data points to be shifted up or down to better fit the graphical image.
  • Toolbar Shortcuts:
  • Many of the most common digitizing and graphing options can now be accessed from the toolbars located below the menus.
  • X Data Spacing Adjustment:
  • The X data spacing can be adjusted by fitting the digitized data points using a cubic spline or linear fit. This feature can be used to set a defined number of data points.
  • Integrated Digitizing and Graphing Spreadsheets:
  • The digitizing and graphing screens now contain spreadsheets that display the (x,y) data values in real time.
  • Increased Number of Data Points:
  • The maximum number of digitized (x,y) data points has been increased to 100,000 data points per file.
  • Turbo Mode:
  • A new digitizing speed setting allows data points to be digitized at 30,000+ points per second.
  • Additional Image Formats and Larger Image Support:
  • The software supports additional graphic image formats, and can load larger images.
  • Integrated Digitizing and Graphing Screens:
  • It is now possible to toggle directly between the digitizing screen to the graphing screen.
  • New Context Sensitive Help Buttons and Tooltips:
  • Context sensitive help buttons and tooltips are now located adjacent to many of the setup and digitizing options.
  • Larger Setup Icons:
  • The digitizing setup icons are larger and clearer to improve assist user interaction during the setup process.
  • New Screen Color Options:
  • Additional sceen colors, highlight colors, and data points sizes are available.
  • Customizable Data Eraser:
  • The size of the data eraser and data shifter can now be customized to improve precision.

New in UN-SCAN-IT 6.1 (Apr 3, 2013)

  • Dot Blot Analysis:
  • This new gel analysis feature allows dot blots to be quantified and analyzed in a much simpler and more efficient manner than was previously possible.
  • Clone Drawing Mode:
  • Lane and segment boxes can now be drawn in clone mode, where all boxes will be identically sized and spaced across the gel.
  • Grayscale and Color Gel Analysis:
  • The software can now use color HSB values to quantify varying color intensities in gel and TLC images.
  • Additional Image Formats:
  • Compressed TIFF and GIF image files are now supported, in addition to the numerous other image formats.
  • Enhanced Background Subtraction:
  • Additional background subtraction and image calibration features are now more flexible, intuitive, and easy to use.
  • Improved Help Menus with Graphics:
  • The new help screens contain more complete help descriptions, as well as new graphic images accompanying the description.
  • Automatic Saturation Checking:
  • The software will automatically determine if pixel values are saturated.
  • Lane/Segment Slider:
  • All lane and segment positions can be moved together to allow multiple images to be digitized with one set of boxes.
  • Additional Gel Segments:
  • Up to 1,000 lanes or segments can be drawn for each gel image.
  • Segment Labeling:
  • Text segments labels can be used to keep track of bands.
  • Enhanced Density Profile:
  • The density profile screen contains additional features for setting baselines, moving forward and backward through lanes, and adjusting peak thresholds.
  • Calibration Curves:
  • Calibration curves can be displayed for the gel results, allowing concentration and molecular weights to be determined more easily.
  • New User’s Manual:
  • This version now contains a manual digitizing mode that will continuously digitize data points when the mouse is moved along a curve while depressing the mouse button.
  • Icon Slider:
  • This feature allows all the current setup icons (and their corresponding location settings) to be moved in the desired direction. This feature can be especially useful when used in conjunction with the Save/Load Axis Setup Parameters option. By using these options, multiple graphs with similar axis parameters can be easily digitized by simply saving and loading the axis setup parameters, and then sliding the axis setup icons to account for the shifts that may have occurred during the scanning process.
  • Sample Images:
  • Several sample images are now included in the UN‑SCAN‑IT folder. These sample images are useful in identifying the axis setup parameters, and provide useful examples of the digitizing process.
  • New User's Manual:
  • The UN‑SCAN‑IT gel User’s Manual has been enhanced with additional graphical examples, chapter guides, and additional feature descriptions.
  • Plus... The Graph Digitizing Features of the regular UN‑SCAN‑IT Software:
  • The UN‑SCAN‑IT gel software also includes the graph digitizing features of the UN‑SCAN‑IT Graph Digitizing Software.
