  • New features in Version 16 SR1 are:
  • Copy Current Line command added to the Edit menu (Ctrl+Y)
  • Shift+click on CSV column header to select entire column
  • Touch command added to the Folder context menu
  • SR1 also fixes the following problems:
  • Arrow keys were not always working at the top and bottom of a chunk
  • Switching between CSV and non-CSV mode did not always maintain the file position
  • CSV/Grid header was not refreshed if the file was refreshed
  • Window position would drift if opened on a second monitor with the Windows taskbar on the left
  • Empty folders in ZIP files were not being displayed
  • V would sometimes crash when displaying folders with very long names

New in V 14 (May 31, 2013)

  • The main new feature in V14 is the ability to view CSV files as tables.
  • Other minor features include:
  • RE to match path (instead of name) option added to Find Files/GREP. This option matches the regular expression mask against the fully qualified file path instead of just the file name.
  • Better recognition of UTF-8 files
  • Will now look for 4DOS descriptions in .description as well as descript.ion
  • Zip/Tar/Cab/BZip now works on files with Unicode file names
  • Fixed FolderTab display when folder name contains "&"
  • Improved crash diagnostics in the crash file
  • x64 version now uses ipworkszip9.dll for ZIP functionality
  • A portable x64 version

New in V 13 (Jan 16, 2012)

  • The major new features are:
  • Spanish, French and Russian language interfaces can now be selected from the new Language tab of Preferences.
  • An experimental Bioinformatics/DNA search which lets you search for amino acid strings and IUPAC codes in files containing DNA sequences.
  • Support for XMIT and AWS files (used in IBM mainframe environments).
  • Other minor changes include:
  • Better support for Unicode files containing Asian characters.
  • The ability to change the font used by the Directory/Mask/Device boxes and by the FolderTabs.
  • A change in name from "V - The File Viewer" to "The V File Viewer".

  • A change to the way V scrolls a document with the introduction of a current line marker
  • Introduction of more traditional bookmarking (Ctrl+F2/F2)
  • File Masks can now be used to filter directory names

New in V 10 Service Release 1 (Jan 25, 2010)

  • Deleting files from the search results could cause V to crash
  • Assigning a command to a single letter (eg, 'c') could sometimes cause V to ignore the following keystroke(s)
  • In GreenBar mode the green lines were not always drawn correctly if the window had been scrolled
  • Double-clicking on a FolderTab goes to its root (for locked tabs that allow subfolder browsing)
  • You can now search folders with commas in their names (by enclosing the folder name in double quotes)

New in V 9 Service Release 1 (Jan 25, 2010)

  • Service Release 1 adds the following:
  • A Network/UNC Timeout (in the Directory Options)
  • "Insert Date into Name" option in File Name Modify
  • It also fixes the following problems:
  • V9 would sometimes crash if GridLines were being used
  • Searching for hex (binary) data did not always work
