ViceVersa PRO Changelog

What's new in ViceVersa PRO 5 Build 5005

Dec 3, 2023
  • This new build fixes an issue with the OneDrive folder and the new Scan Acceleration

New in ViceVersa PRO 5 Build 5004 (Dec 6, 2022)

  • DARK MODE:
  • Set dark mode in View -> Preferences. The following color schemes are available in ViceVersa PRO: Default, Gray, White, Light Gray, Dark Mode.
  • Dark Mode is available from version 5 of ViceVersa PRO. The Dark Mode color scheme is automatically selected if Windows Dark Mode is enabled. VVLauncher
  • also supports Dark Mode when Dark Mode is selected in ViceVersa.
  • Increase Font Size / Use Segoe Font:
  • Increase the default ViceVersa font size in View -> Preferences, plus the option to use the new Segoe font if available, instead of Tahoma
  • Drive Indexing (Scan Acceleration):
  • Drive Indexing / Scan Acceleration is a unique new major feature of ViceVersa PRO 5.
  • With Drive Indexing / Scan Acceleration, you can speed up the folder scanning phase of a profile significantly in certain scenarios. The scanning phase is when all the information is collected from Source and Target folder(s) to initiate the comparison and then to work out which files or folder need to be copied, based on their attributes / timestamps and on the selected execution method in ViceVersa.
  • It can take a significant amount of time to scan all files if there are a lot of files to scan. Scan Acceleration can make that a lot faster, up to 10 times faster, in some cases. For example, scanning a complete drive with two million files on it with Scan Acceleration could take less than 60 seconds, instead of 10 minutes without
  • CRC Comparison / Verification for % of Files:
  • Set ViceVersa to calculate and compare CRC values only for a % of randomly selected files out of the total files present in Source and Target. Sampling CRC
  • values for a subset of files can be used to quickly validate data contents of Source vs Target. For example, testing that CRC values of a % of files on a SSD is matching vs a copy of the data can be used to validate the SSD data integrity and check SSD health. Full CRC comparison of every file might take too long, while sampling a % of random files will be a lot faster.
  • Hide All Other Windows from the Copy Dialog Box:
  • Hide all other Windows from the copy/delete dialog during lengthy operations
  • Multi-Threaded Sorting:
  • Use multiple threads (8) to sort Source and Target files. This option is enabled by default. It can be 8 times as fast as a single threaded sort. This option is in Profile Settings -> Performance -> Set Multithreading Options
  • Faster Multi-Threaded Source / Target Scanning:
  • Implementation of a new memory cache for much faster multithreaded Source / Target scanning
  • Faster Source / Target Comparison:
  • New memory optimizations will result in much faster Source / Target comparisons when lots of files are to be compared
  • Calculation of File Hashes for Both Source and Target Files in the Comparison Window:
  • Calculate Multiple File Hashes of both Source and Target files directly from the ViceVersa Comparison Window
  • Other Features:
  • Improved scrolling speed in the comparison window
  • Improved multiple files selection
  • New option to close the copy window automatically but only if no errors were present
  • Improvements to command line parameter /incsub
  • Bug fixes and more

New in ViceVersa PRO 4 Build 4004 (Nov 26, 2021)

  • Performance Enhancements :
  • Faster file copy and delete speed, up to 50% or more in some cases, when copying or deleting files in ViceVersa.
  • Significantly increased overall speed and responsiveness of the side-by-side comparison window and file lists when working with millions of files, e.g., select view, preview, selection of files, overall display, file filtering, finding, deleting files, refresh, re-comparison after copy/delete, archiving etc.
  • Several new multithreading options to fine-tune folder scanning performance (Profile Settings -> Performance):
  • Scan Target While Scanning Source (Prefetch Target):
  • This option can help comparison speed in certain scenarios, as ViceVersa scans and caches the target at the same time as the source.
  • Multithreaded Source Scanning:
  • Use multiple threads to scan source (16). Over network and/or low latency this can help speed up the scanning time significantly.
  • Multithreaded Target Scanning:
  • Use multiple threads to scan target (16). Over network and/or low latency this can help speed up the scanning time significantly.
  • Multithreaded Comparison:
  • Use multiple threads to compare source and target (16 by default). This can help speed up the scanning time significantly, especially when CRC/SHA-256 comparison and verification is used.
  • With the four new multithreading options, the source / target comparison total time can be reduced to half in certain cases.
  • New Option ‘Use Large Fetch’ in Profile Settings -> Performance. With this option, ViceVersa uses a larger buffer for directory queries. This can increase performance of source / target scanning over low latency connections.
  • Faster handling of file icons over network in the comparison window (i.e. .exe and .ico icons). Icons could slow down the ViceVersa display in the comparison window in earlier versions
  • Faster scanning of repeated folders: if a profile has the same folder used repeatedly as source or target, that folder is no longer scanned multiple times but just once, which is faster. For example, if a profile has folder A replicating to folder B and folder A replicating to folder C, folder A will be scanned just once in version 4. In earlier versions, folder A would be scanned twice. If multiple scanning is still required, the new option “Force rescan of repeated source and target folders” can be enabled in Profile Settings -> Advanced Settings -> More Settings.
  • New Features / Improvements:
  • New “Find” and “Find Filters” functionality (menu -> lists -> find or CTRL+F), to search for files in the source or target side-by-side list. This also include the capability to apply a "Find Filter", e.g., to show only files with extension *.doc in the lists or based on name etc. More info in the help file.
  • New ability to specify a default profile file to be used as starting point when a new profile is created. The default profile should be named "default.fsf" and should be saved in the ViceVersa installation folder, where the ViceVersa.exe file is located. If a file "default.fsf" is found by ViceVersa, then when "New Profile" is selected, the settings in default.fsf are used as default values.
  • New Option ‘Create Volume Shadow Copy only when needed’, i.e., if there are locked/in-use files that can't be copied. If there are no locked/in-use files for that run, the volume shadow copy is not created which is much faster and much less resource intensive.
  • New Option "Use Quick Archive Check" in profile settings -> archiving. When this option is enabled, ViceVersa only performs a quick archive check, and never a full archive check/rescan, which can be slow if there are many files in the archive locations.
  • New Option "Case-Sensitive" for file/folder name comparison, in profile settings -> comparison.
  • New Option “Log Comparison Status to CSV” in profile settings -> execution. This option will export the comparison status before and after execution automatically to a CSV file.
  • New Option “Move Files Only (Not Folders)” in profile settings -> execution. With this option, ViceVersa will only move files and not folders to target, when 'Move to Target' is enabled.
  • New ability to suppress overwrite, overwrite newer, delete read-only warning dialogs in Preferences -> Manage Don't Ask Me / Tell Me again.
  • New ability to IGNORE, IGNORE ALL, CANCEL on CRC calculation error.
  • New Separated "Skipped Files" from "Error Files" in the e-mail body and the environment variables. Newly added: %VV_COPIED_FILES_SKIPPED%, %VV_DELETED_FILES_SKIPPED%
  • Improved 'File Hashes' extension in Windows Explorer with new coloring of file names based on their hash when sorting, and included the ability to add to the existing list, if File Hashes list is already open.
  • Moved the option “Do not copy file streams” to Profile Settings -> Advanced Settings -> More Settings.
  • New “check for software updates” functionality with increased security.
  • The Option ‘Replace newer target files with older source files’ can now be used with the Replication methods too, not just Backup.
  • Give warning instead of an error when ‘Additional File Streams’ cannot be copied.
  • Tested on Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022.
  • Bug fixes

  • Choose an action to perform if file/folder security attributes do not match after copying -
  • Leave empty to not check file/folder security attributes after copying.
  • Select 'Warning' to add a warning to the log file and output window if file/folder security attributes do not match after copying.
  • Select 'Error' to report an error (file or folder is not copied in this case).
  • New File Filters:
  • Added ability to filter files based on the KiloBytes, MegaBytes, GigaBytes size, not just file size in bytes.
  • Show Comparison of File Permissions and Security Attributes:
  • Added the ability to show the comparison of file permissions and security attributes for two or more side-by-side files in the comparison window.
  • Support for Windows Server 2019
  • Retry on File Copy/Delete Error:
  • Added three new profile settings options to retry on file copy or file delete error. The new options are the number of times to retry per file, the total retries per job and the number of seconds between retries.
  • These new options have been added on top of the already existing options to retry on network error, during source and target scanning.
  • Fixed Issues and Improvements:
  • 'Handling of auto-inherit and auto-inherit-request file permissions' when copying file security attributes and file permissions.
  • 'Improved inheritance propagation' when copying file security attributes and file permissions.
  • 'Access Denied' when copying folder modified dates.
  • 'Hidden Target Root Directory' when using Volume Shadow Copy and copying folder modified dates.
  • 'Offline File Attribute' incorrectly propagated from source to target.
  • 'Optimized CRC Calculation' made CRC calculation faster for origin files (removed the need to recalculate the CRC of the 'from' file after copying)
  • 'Last Access Date' preserve the last access date also during CRC verification and/or comparison when the option 'Preserve last access timestamp of files being copied' is enabled.

New in ViceVersa PRO 3.0 Build 3001 (Jun 2, 2020)

  • Support for 4K monitors and high DPI Windows settings:
  • Added support for large resolution displays and high DPI settings, e.g. Microsoft Surface, Book, Laptop, etc.
  • Move Functionality:
  • Added the capability to move files/folders from Source to Target based on the file name, size, time. Files/folders are copied to Target and if the copy is successful then they are deleted from Source.
  • Memory Usage Minimization:
  • New option to minimize memory usage when running profiles. Memory usage will be halved when this option is activated, increasing the number of profiles that can be run at the same time.
  • Map To Drive:
  • Added the capability to connect to a network path and map it to a drive letter.
  • SHA-256 Comparison:
  • New option to compare files using the SHA-256 signature of their content on top of the standard CRC32.
  • Recheck File and Folder Security Attributes During Comparison:
  • This new option allows re-checking and re-aligning of the selected security attributes for all files and folders in Source and in Target each time the profile runs. When this option is enabled, the selected security attributes of files and folders will be re-checked during comparison and they will be re-adjusted during the profile execution. Not only for files and folders that are copied but also for files and folders that are already both in Source and in Target. VVEngine will also detect changes to security attributes of existing files/folders and replicate them.
  • New Option 'Max Files/Folders to Delete':
  • If profile execution would result in more than this amount of files/folders deleted in Source or Target, the profile is not executed. No files at all are copied or deleted in that case and execution is aborted before the copy/delete process starts. The amount can be specified as a number, for example, 100, or as a percentage, for example, 10%.
  • New Option 'Max. Files/Folders to Update':
  • If profile execution would result in more than this amount of files/folders updated (overwritten) in source or target, the profile is not executed. No files at all are copied or deleted in that case and execution is aborted before the copy/delete process starts. The amount can be specified as a number, for example, 100, or as a percentage, for example, 10%.
  • New Option 'Stop If a File Name Matches':
  • If a file name in Source or in Target matches the file mask specified, comparison and execution are stopped immediately and an error is returned. For example, specifying *.jpg will stop execution if there is a file with extension jpg in Source or Target. You can specify multiple file names or file masks by using the separator |, e.g. text.doc|*.exe
  • Manage All 'Don't Ask Me Again Tell Me Again Messages':
  • Added capability to manage / reset / set the default answers. Throughout the application, prompts appear providing information about the current area of the program. Many of these have the option to no longer show the message.
  • New File Hashes Extension:
  • New optional 'File Hashes Extension' for Windows Explorer. When the extension is installed, from the ViceVersa preferences, you will be able to right click on multiple files in Windows Explorer and show their file hashes: CRC32, MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, KECCAK and SHA-3.
  • Rename Conflicts:
  • When conflicts are synchronized (files changed on both sides since the last sync), the older file is renamed first.
  • Save Source and Target Comparison to CSV file:
  • Added capability to save the comparison of Source and Target folders to CSV file (comma separated values file). This can also be done automatically using the command line.
  • Bug fixes

New in ViceVersa PRO 2.5 Build 2518 (Sep 29, 2016)

  • FIXED - Fixed VVScheduler issues on Win 10 Anniversary Update.
  • FIXED - Fixed issue with wrong timestamp applied to target files when copying files with a timestamp between 2am and 3am on the second Sunday in March or the first Sunday in November.
  • NEW - Added ability to specify custom e-mail sending timeouts in the Windows Registry. See the ViceVersa help file for more info.

New in ViceVersa PRO 2.5 Build 2517 (May 29, 2016)

Since Windows Vista, last accessed time for files is disabled in Windows by default but can be re-enabled using a special command
  • NEW - Added profile option to 'Include offline files'. When this option is enabled, ViceVersa will include files that are offline in the comparison and profile execution, e.g. files that are in source and/or target folders and have the Windows offline attribute set. By default, ViceVersa excludes these files automatically
  • FIXED - Fixed rare issue with sparse file attribute changing just before file deletion, preventing files from being deleted and being skipped instead. Issue only happening with some network storage devices

New in ViceVersa PRO 2.5 Build 2513 (Jan 23, 2015)

  • NEW: Checked compatibility with the new Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2.
  • NEW: Added new variable to e-mail conditions: consecutive_error_runs. This is the number of consecutive times the profile has run and has finished with an error result. For example the condition consecutive_error_runs > 3 sends an e-mail only after profile has run at least 3 consecutive times with an error result.

New in ViceVersa PRO 2.5 Build 2512 (Jun 20, 2013)

  • NEW: Added time.nist.gov to list of default time servers that can be used for time synchronization.

  • dayofweek = 1 (send e-mail only on Mondays).
  • elapsed_days > 1 (send e-mail only if the last e-mail was sent at least 1 day ago).
  • error_email_elapsed_hours > 12 (send e-mail only if the last error e-mail was sent at least 12 hours ago).
  • exit_code isnotoneof {3,10} (send e-mail only if the exit code is not 3 or 10).
  • runs_since_last_email > 5 (send e-mail only if the the profile has run at least 5 times since the last e-mail, that is, send error e-mail only every 5 runs)
  • running_process_exists("outlook.exe") = false (send e-mail only if the the process outlook.exe is not running)
  • has_changes = true (send e-mail only if some files or folders were copied or deleted)
  • incremental = false (send e-mail only if the profile run is not an incremental VVEngine run, based on detected changes)
  • NEW Recovery E-Mail: if a profile recovers (i.e. profile execution is successful after a previous error) a recovery e-mail is automatically sent.
  • NEW Improved Rescan Condition: rescan condition now supports many more variables. For example: file_exists, folder_exists, running_process_exists, ip_address_matches, get_env and a lot more. See help file for complete list.
  • FIXED Fixed issue with real-time incremental scanning if subfolder casing is not matching in source and target.

New in ViceVersa PRO 2.5 Build 2507 (May 16, 2012)

  • 2 new performance options in profile settings:
  • Use Windows native file copy: Instructs ViceVersa to use the Windows native file copy to copy files, instead of its own algorithm. In certain situations, this option can improve file copy performance significantly.
  • Unbuffered file copy: This new option requires 'Windows native file copy' to be enabled (see above). With this option you can instruct ViceVersa to perform unbuffered file copying. Unbuffered file copying is slower but very useful in certain cases.
  • While buffered file copying (the default in ViceVersa) caches file reads and writes in the file system memory, unbuffered file copying does not. Buffered file copying speeds up future reads and writes, but it has an associated memory cost that may impact other applications/processes running.
  • Unbuffered file copying does not cache file reads or file writes. It is moderately slower, but it does minimize memory usage. Unbuffered file copy is the preferred method when copying large files or a large amount of files without impacting on memory usage.
  • Fixed an issue with some VSS writers selected in source and combined with compressed/encrypted target: target files would be incorrectly selected.
  • Fixed an issue with temp files renaming error: files containing character % in the file name and having path longer than 259 characters could cause ViceVersa PRO to crash in certain situations.

New in ViceVersa PRO 2.5 Build 2506 (May 16, 2012)

  • Fixed an issue with Smart Archiving: if the profile was run often, too many archive copies would be removed from the archive folder.
  • The preference option Send file files to Recycle Bin when deleting is now set to "No" by default.
  • Added two new possible values for the File Copy Buffer Size option in the profile settings: 4MB and 8MB.

New in ViceVersa PRO 2.5 Build 2505 (May 16, 2012)

  • New option "Skip in-use files". This option instructs ViceVersa to skip files that are in use by other users or applications without reporting any errors. This option can be combined with the option 'Try to copy files that are in use by other applications': in that case, ViceVersa first tries to copy the file, even if in-use, and then it will skip the file if not possible.
  • New option "Synchronize files one-way only: source to target (synchronization method)". For the Synchronization method, this option instructs ViceVersa to synchronize files one-way only, source to target. With this option, changes in source are reflected to target, but changes in target are not reflected to source, like it happens with the standard two-way synchronization method. This means that files that were deleted in source will be deleted from target, and files that changed in source will be copied to target; however, files that were deleted in target will NOT be deleted from source and files that changed in target will NOT be copied to source.
  • Improved network log-in functionality.
  • Improved handling of "missing" files, that is files that are in source or target during comparison, but are removed before copying or deletion starts. These files used to generate a superfluous error: they are now skipped automatically.
  • Improved handling of files that are excluded from Volume Shadow Copies. There is a new option in Windows 7, Vista, 2008 to exclude certain files (usually very large files that are not needed for backup) from the shadow copies (see Registry key FilesNotToSnapshot) These excluded files used to generate a superfluous error in ViceVersa: they are now skipped automatically.
  • Includes support for the new Real-Time VVEngine 2.1 functionality

New in ViceVersa PRO 2.5 Build 2504 (Oct 25, 2011)

  • Added the new no rescan options for file backup and replication over slow connections (e.g. VPN, LAN, network).
  • This is a very powerful new feature, that can speed-up file backup and replication over slow connections significantly.
  • It can also be used when dealing with a large number of files disk-2-disk
  • Fixed rare "Interface Error" message sometimes shown when closing VVLauncher on Windows 7, Vista.

New in ViceVersa PRO 2.5 Build 2503 (Oct 25, 2011)

  • Added folder variables support to tracking database path (, , etc.)
  • Added extra check to make sure multiple profiles are not sharing the same tracking database.
  • Fixed incompatibility between folder snapshots created by ViceVersa PRO 32-bit and snapshots created by ViceVersa PRO 64-bit. Folder snapshots are now compatible across all systems.
  • Fixed issue with change in folder casing causing unnecessary request to reset the tracking database.
  • Fixed issue with low casing applied to source and target when specified on the command line.
  • Fixed issue with no files / folders copied, without reporting any errors, when running too many profiles concurrently.
  • Fixed issue with error "an invalid argument was encountered" during file archiving: this error could cause ViceVersa to hang in some instances.
  • Fixed issue with scanning archive folder even if not needed as per profile settings.
  • Fixed issue with "Execution not completed" exit code returned (2), in some instances, instead of correct exit code "Canceled by user" (4).

New in ViceVersa PRO 2.5 Build 2502 (Oct 25, 2011)

  • New path variables supported: and . These two new variables can be used in source, target, log and archive folders. ViceVersa replaces these variables with the letter of the drive having the specified serial number or label. For example you can use :\BackupFolder\ in target: is replaced with the letter of the drive having label USBdrive1.
  • New list of file copy errors and file deletion errors added to the default e-mail and to the environment variables set by ViceVersa.
  • Added ability to run VVLauncher under a restricted account. (Note: the Volume Shadow Copy feature is not supported when running under a restricted account. Windows requires backup/restore privileges when creating Volume Shadow Copies. In this case ViceVersa continues without Volume Shadow Copy).
  • Added ability in VVScheduler to run tasks under restricted accounts (Note: the Volume Shadow Copy feature is not supported when running under a restricted account. Windows requires backup/restore privileges when creating Volume Shadow Copies. In this case ViceVersa continues without Volume Shadow Copy).
  • Added Regular Expression support in file, subfolder and archive filters. See help for more information.
  • Added [ ] support in file, subfolder and archive filters. E.g. [a-m]* selects all names starting with a to m. See help for more information.
  • Added ! support in file, subfolder and archive filters (not operator). E.g. !a* selects all names not starting with a. See help for more information.
  • Exclude file filters improvements when using compression or encryption.
  • Added ability to limit filter scope to a specified source / target pair in a profile containing multiple pairs. See help for more information.
  • New low-memory message error added in ViceVersa when too many files in one profile.
  • Fixed issue with evaluation period starting with a wrong day count in a few cases.
  • Added support for log file variables to VVLauncher / VVScheduler.
  • Fixed issue with incorrect total size reported when comparing a folder on a hard-disk with a folder on a DVD/CD (only happening with few CD/DVD players).
  • Fixed issue with VVLauncher crashing when running as service if another user logs in under a restricted account (Note: the recommended and most flexible way to run ViceVersa PRO as a Windows Service is to use the VVEngine add-on.
  • Fixed issue with the VVLauncher icon on the taskbar not showing the correct status (at startup) and/or not showing at all on Windows 7 / Vista.
  • Fixed issue when using the /wait flag in VVScheduler (possibility of jobs hanging).
  • Fixed issue with incorrect exit code returned in automatic mode when CRC comparison can't access certain files.
  • Fixed issue with VVLauncher stopping if computer switches to battery power on Windows 7.
  • Further internal improvements when running on Windows 2008 and Windows 7.

New in ViceVersa PRO 2.5 Build 2501 (Oct 25, 2011)

  • E-Mail Notifications:
  • New: Added ability to include the log file in the notification e-mail by using the variable %VV_LOG_FILE_CONTENT%
  • This variable includes the content of the profile log file in the e-mail (if a log file has been set in the profile settings) but limited to the last profile run and to a maximum of approximately 50KB. For instance, this variable can be added at the end of the e-mail body text. Note that this variable cannot be used in custom scripts, it can only be used in the e-mail body text.
  • Fixed: Fixed problem with sending notification e-mail via certain e-mail servers.
  • Windows 7 / Vista:
  • New: Added support for the new I/O prioritization functionality in Windows 7 and Vista. ViceVersa PRO requests low I/O priority if the Idle, Low or Below Normal values are used in profile settings -> performance -> Process Priority. In that case, all folder scanning and file copying operations performed by ViceVersa will be of lower priority when compared to other I/O operations of other applications running at the same time on the same computer. When using these values, ViceVersa will not impact the overall responsiveness of the computer and the copy/scanning will go ahead silently in the background. When running on Windows 7, Vista, 2008 or newer, ViceVersa will also use the new I/O prioritization capabilities to improve system responsiveness without significantly decreasing overall throughput. The recommended and default value for Process Priority is Idle (the lowest priority).
  • Improved: Fine tuned High DPI support. ViceVersa PRO is now fully compatible with High DPI monitor settings in Windows 7 and Vista.
  • Additional File Data Streams:
  • Fixed: Fixed issue with copying certain Additional File Data Streams (e.g. MAC forks) between NTFS volumes. Issue present in ViceVersa PRO 64-bit version only.
  • Volume Shadow Copy:
  • Fixed: Fixed problem with listing Volume Shadow Copy writers with dependencies in their metadata.
  • Fixed: Fixed incorrect Volume Shadow Copy error reported when two Hyper-V machine's names start with same text.
  • New: Added ability to use * to match multiple Hyper-V machines and SQL databases when using the VSS:\\ notation.
  • Improved: Added more details to the Volume Shadow Copy error message if a Volume Shadow Copy writer fails during Volume Shadow Copy creation.
  • Other:
  • New: Added capability to enter the license code via the command line for automated installations. See help file for more details.
  • Fixed: Fixed problem with .tmp files accumulating in the temp folder if two or more ViceVersa profiles share the same log file.
  • Fixed: Fixed problem with file exclusion when "older than 1 day" is specified in the profile settings.
  • Fixed: Fixed incorrect conflicts reported when synchronizing Outlook PST files.
  • Updated: Updated password handling for encrypted folders.

New in ViceVersa PRO 2.0 build 2500 (Aug 5, 2009)

  • NEW: Added ability to send an E-Mail notification at the end of a profile execution in case of error and/or success. Supports also special SSL mail servers such as GMail.
  • NEW: EXTENDED VSS (=Volume Shadow Copy) support with an option to create the Volume Shadow Copy before source/target comparison. This option makes it easier to backup MS SQL databases, Hyper-V machines, Oracle 11g databases on Windows Servers, by using their respective VSS writers.
  • NEW: EXTENDED VSS (=Volume Shadow Copy) with an option to select directly VSS writers or components to backup, using the new vss:\ notation. -> More Info / Watch the Video
  • NEW: Ready for Windows 7.
  • NEW: Added the ability to specify which script to run before or after execution, in addition to global and local scripts.
  • NEW: Added support for PowerShell (.ps1) scripts.
  • NEW: New 'Network Friendly Folder Scanning' option in performance/bandwidth settings. This option is useful for scanning deeply nested folders over the network. Without this option, scanning deeply nested folders over the network could time-out with error “the handle is invalid”. Use this option if you receive the error “the handle is invalid” while ViceVersa is scanning folders over the network.
  • NEW: ViceVersa automatically excludes all subfolders that contain only excluded files. For example, if a subfolder X contains 5 documents, which have file extension .doc, and the profile settings exclude all files with extension .doc , then ViceVersa excludes the subfolder X too, automatically. This default behavior can now be overridden by adding an include subfolder "**" as the first subfolder filter (double *, without surrounding "). With this special filter, subfolders containing only excluded files are not excluded.
  • NEW: Added ability to specify a profile name on the command line plus other options. The profile file is used as template in this case.
