New in WinReminders 1.11.41.0 (Feb 21, 2012)

  • New Features:
  • Printing - Added the ability to print preview (and therefore print) the contents of the search events dialog in WYSIWYG fashion.
  • Events - Added the ability to define the default notice period for new events.
  • Feature Enhancements:
  • Events - Increased the number of future recurrences that rule based events will show on the event calendar. Previously this was limited to seven (7) primarily for performance reasons, but it has now been increased to thirty six (36) after further performance testing, to cover rule based events that occur every month. This ensures that at least 3 years' worth of future events are visible on the calendar.
  • Fonts - Fonts in WinReminders menus now also support full font styles (bold, italics, underline and strike-through). Fonts in WinReminders lists now support italics but bold, underline and strike-through are reserved for other uses.
  • Data Sharing - Data sharing has been enhanced to support an automatic synchronization feature such that users who use data sharing to work collaboratively and who leave the WinReminders application running, will be able to enable automatic synchronization of events and task data with their public data repository. This is useful, for example, when using WinReminders to keep several people abreast of a list of tasks or duties that are carried out during the course of a day or perhaps during the week.
  • Copy to Clipboard - Improved the copy to clipboard feature to include column headers for easier identification when pasting (e.g., into Excel).
  • Miscellaneous Changes:
  • Event Editor - Made some tweaks to the visual status of certain UI elements under certain contexts, to make it more visually obvious which UI elements are in play and which are not, in those respective contexts.
  • Notification Messages - Improved the wording and verbosity of several different important warning and informational messages.
  • Events - Improved some internal logic for events with end dates.
  • Help - Added a link in the help menu to a new 'What's New?' topic.
  • Bug Fixes:
  • Moderate - Fixed a problem where if a user selected a font that did not support regular font style (such as Vivaldi) for any of WinReminders options that allow a font to be selected, then this would render WinReminders unable to start until the user options file for WinReminders was deleted (to reset the selection of the incompatible font). This problem is rated Moderate only due to the low probability of running into the problem, else it would be rated more severe.
  • Moderate - Fixed a problem with recurring events with end dates. If the end date for the event also fell on the event's due date, the due date would incorrectly show its due date one (1) day too late.
  • Minor - Fixed a problem that could encounter when trying to purchase WinReminders using a computer with non-English locale that uses different separator characters for numbers. This would result in an invalid PayPal link being generated. WinReminders now correctly generates locale independent PayPal links.
  • Minor - WinReminders now takes exclusive control over files it creates to try to prevent 3rd party applications (such as virus scanners) from stepping on WinReminders' toes when it tries to save its own data. (WinReminders sometimes writes data to a temporary file before copying that file to its final location; we had some reports where the temp files created by WinReminders were getting locked by some 3rd party process, so now WinReminders prevents any application from locking those files since they are after all, only temporary files.)
  • Minor - Now prevent the user from being able to type a system sound in the "Play system notification sound" option since if the typed value did not match a valid system sound string, an error would occur.
  • Minor - Now restrict the valid date ranges in the calendar to a narrower range to avoid conflicts with the date picker control for editing event dates. Whilst this does reduce the functionality of the calendar the valid date ranges should still satisfy most users. Valid dates are now between 1st January, 1753 and 31st December, 2500.
  • Minor - Fixed a problem in the print preview dialog where a user could enter a zoom of 0% and this would lead to an error. Valid zoom values are now limited to between 10% and 1,000%.
  • Minor - Fixed a problem where yearly events would not copy to the clipboard correctly (e.g., for pasting into Excel).
  • Minor - Fixed several minor help content issues; typos, spelling and other tweaks.
