What's new in WinZip Command Line Support Add-on 4.0

Sep 30, 2013
  • WinZip Command Line Support Add-On 4.0 now includes a powerful 64-bit zip engine upgrade for maximum zipping speed.
  • There is a new switch for zipping and unzipping: -ya
  • This switch enables hardware acceleration using any available GPU that supports OpenCL. There is no affect if OpenCL is not supported.
  • Example -
  • wzunzip -ya c:\example.zip readme.txt
  • Extracts readme.txt from example.zip using hardware acceleration.
  • The WinZip Command Line will now create/extract LHA files. In addition, the Command Line will extract from RAR, 7z and other supported non-.Zip archives.

New in WinZip Command Line Support Add-on 3.2 (Sep 30, 2013)

  • WinZip Command Line Support Add-On 3.2 now supports Intel-based computers with built-in AES encryption and uses the available hardware support to make encryption operations faster when using the -yc, -ycAES, -ycAES128, or -ycAES256 options.

New in WinZip Command Line Support Add-on 3.1 (Sep 30, 2013)

  • WZZIP uses the .zipx extension for "update" and "create" when no extension is given and the compression method is either "best method" (-ez) or a non-legacy compression method ("PPMd" -ep, "LZMA" -el, or "bzip2" -eb).
  • WZZIP will display a warning when a .zip extension is specified and "best method" compression or a non-legacy compression method is specified.
  • WZZIP will display an error if using the 8.3 filename option (-yk) and either a .zipx extension is used or "best method" compression / non-legacy compression method is used.
  • WZUNZIP will always unzip the .zip file rather than the .zipx file if no extension is specified in the command line and both extensions have the same file name in the same folder.

New in WinZip Command Line Support Add-on 3.0 (Sep 30, 2013)

  • WZZIP's new -el option uses "LZMA" compression during zip operations.
  • WZZIP's -ez option for "best method" compression now includes Jpeg and LZMA compression. This option instructs WinZip to choose the best compression method for each file, based on the file type. You may want to choose this option if compressed file size is a primary concern. Requires WinZip 12.0 or later, WinZip Command Line Support Add-On 3.0 or later, or compatible Zip utility to extract.
  • WZZIP and WZUNZIP now support UTF-8 and Unicode-encoded response files.

New in WinZip Command Line Support Add-on 2.3 (Sep 30, 2013)

  • WZZIP's new -ez option uses "best method" compression during zip operations. This option instructs WinZip to choose the best compression method for each file, based on the file type. You may want to choose this option if compressed file size is a primary concern. Requires WinZip 11.0 or higher, WinZip Command Line Support Add-On 2.2 or later, or compatible Zip utility to extract.

These compression methods provide greater compression for many types of files and reduces the size of your Zip files, saving you data transmission time and valuable disk space.
  • Note: Versions of WinZip prior to WinZip 9.0 will not be able to extract files compressed with the new bzip2 compression method and versions of WinZip prior to WinZip 10.0 will not be able to be extract files compressed with the new PPMd compression method.
  • Other Changes in WinZip Command Line Support Add-On 2.0:
  • WZUNZIP's new -yz option: use this option when you trust both the Zip file and its source, to allow all files to extract without Zone information. Note: Supported only by Windows XP SP2 and later on NTFS drives using Outlook Express, Windows Mail, or Internet Explorer.
  • WZUNZIP's new -yZ option: use this option to extract the files from the Zip file with Zone Information. Note: Supported only by Windows XP SP2 and later on NTFS drives using Outlook Express, Windows Mail, or Internet Explorer.
