Zoom Client Changelog

What's new in Zoom Client 5.16.0.22201

Sep 18, 2023
  • Changes to existing features:
  • User requests for enabling Team Chat Compose and Thread Summary
  • Paid users on eligible paid plans (may not be available for select verticals and regional customers) may be able to see the Zoom AI Companion chat compose and thread summary options within the Team Chat UI, even if the account admin has not enabled it. If these options are visible but not enabled, users can request admin enablement. Account admins can control the visibility of these enablement options through web settings. By default, these features will be visible to users in Team Chat.
  • New and enhanced features:
  • General features:
  • Additional MSI/PLIST/GPO/MDM options
  • Disable Zoom Notes for Meetings - DisableInMeetingZoomNotes - Windows, macOS, Linux
  • Disabled by default, admins can control the use of Zoom Notes during Zoom Meetings.
  • Keyboard shortcuts for desktop client tab navigation - Windows, macOS
  • New keyboard shortcuts are added to the desktop client, making it easier for users to quickly switch between Zoom product tabs. Additionally, the Windows desktop client is getting a General section in the Keyboard Shortcuts section, which includes the new options below and a few other shortcuts, relocated from other sections. The following shortcuts are added to the Keyboard Shortcuts section of the client Settings page:
  • Ctrl+Tab: Move to the next tab
  • Ctrl+Shift+Tab: Move to the previous tab
  • Ctrl+1 through Ctrl+8 : Move to a specific tab
  • Ctrl+9: Move to the last tab
  • Calendar and Contacts integration setup for mobile - Android
  • Zoom mobile app users can more easily set up the standard calendar and contacts integration with Zoom, allowing the Zoom app (both desktop and mobile) to show all their upcoming appointments, not just the Zoom Meetings created by them.
  • Android Auto support - Android
  • The Zoom mobile app for Android integrates more seamlessly with supported vehicles, allowing users to more easily view and join meetings. This will be rolling out to users over time.
  • Max bandwidth for Zoom Mesh parent-devices - Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS
  • To better adapt to weaker networks, each parent device is limited to a maximum bandwidth, which, when exceeded by child devices, triggers the parent device to connect to no additional child devices. For ethernet connections, the maximum bandwidth is 60 MBPS, and 15 MBPS for wifi connections. This has no effect on the setting for maximum bandwidth per attendee.
  • Meeting/webinar features
  • Annotation toolbar redesign - Windows, macOS, Linux
  • When annotating on a shared desktop or specific window, the annotation toolbar is redesigned to improve usability and reduce the screen space used by that toolbar. The toolbar is slimmed down and will snap to the nearest edge of the screen, orienting either vertically or horizontally.
  • Q&A usability enhancement - Windows, macOS, Linux
  • Threaded comments to submitted questions in Q&A are capped at displaying 2 comments before they are hidden behind a View More option. This aims to make reading submitted questions and their responses easier by reducing how other questions and expanding threads affect each other in the Q&A window.
  • Window merge-in enhancements - Windows, macOS, Linux
  • Side panels, such as the in-meeting chat and participants panels, can be easily popped out from the main meeting/webinar window for ease of use, and with these updates, they are even easier to merge back into the meeting/webinar window. Additionally, the Q&A window for meetings and webinars can be merged into the main window. Previously it was only possible to close or minimize the Q&A window, not merge it into the main meeting/webinar window.
  • Captioning controls redesign - Windows, macOS, Linux
  • The in-meeting/in-webinar captioning controls are redesigned to make captioning options easier and more intuitive to enable and adjust. Host controls are clearly separated from other controls available to all participants and some settings are renamed slightly to be more clear to users.
  • Enhanced manual captioning UI - Windows, macOS, Linux
  • The window where captions are manually entered more clearly indicates that captions appear for meeting participants or webinar attendees as the captioner types, rather than when hitting the Enter key.
  • Meeting features
  • In-meeting chat history without CMC - Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS
  • In-meeting chat history will be visible to all participants, even if participants join late. Previously, chat history from before joining the current meeting was only available when using Continuous Meeting Chat. This feature must be enabled by Zoom and is enabled for the entire account.
  • Webinar features
  • Support multiple URLs in Webinar Resources - Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS
  • Webinar resources can display multiple resource links at a time during a Webinar. When multiple links are enabled during the Webinar, attendees will be able to scroll through the links that the host enabled. This allows the presenter or host to provide a diverse range of supplementary materials, such as slides, handouts, reference documents, and relevant URLs.
  • Team Chat features
  • Custom emojis - Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS
  • Users can create their own emojis, adding a personal flair to their conversations. All members in the user's organization can see and use these custom emojis in Team Chat conversations and reactions. Admins can view all uploaded emojis, including the uploader’s name and email address, upload date, and emoji name. Admins can also remove any emojis directly from the web portal. By default, custom emojis are enabled and all users can upload their own, but admins can also limit emoji creation through account settings by choosing whether all users in the organization can create emojis or only the admin(s) and specific users can create emojis.
  • Scheduled messages - Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS
  • Scheduled messages improve custom workflows and productivity in Team Chat, giving users the ability to schedule messages for future delivery. Users can also delay sending messages until the recipient’s work hours, showing courtesy and ensuring the message appears at the top of the recipient’s inbox. Previously, users had to choose between waiting to send messages (even if it meant working beyond their usual hours) or potentially disrupting the recipient.
  • Drafted messages listed in Drafts tab - Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS
  • Drafted messages are conveniently listed and accessible through a new Drafts tab within the Team Chat side panel.
  • Add Activity Center Cards for emoji reactions in chat messages - Windows, macOS
  • An activity center card for emoji reactions in chat messages is being added to enhance communication and engagement within Team Chat. This will serve as a centralized hub, making it effortless for users to track and understand emoji reactions to their messages across various chat groups and channels.
  • Team Chat Thread Summary with Zoom AI Companion - Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS
  • Team Chat users can use Zoom AI Companion to help summarize a chat thread and quickly catch up on the discussion without having to read each response in the thread.
  • Add timestamp to the lists of existing chats in a dropdown - Windows, macOS
  • When a user initiates a new group chat with the same members, the user will see a timestamp indicating the last message sent in each existing chat with identical membership. The timestamp will allow users to easily distinguish between multiple group chats featuring the same members. This way, users can quickly identify which chat is most relevant or contains the information they're looking for.
  • Enhancements to the Team Chat mobile experience - Android, iOS
  • Various improvements to the Team Chat mobile experience are being introduced to maintain parity with the desktop client and enable users to quickly catch up on their prioritized conversations, including one-on-one chats, mentions, channels, and group chats with notifications.
  • Keep formatting when copying and pasting text in Team Chat - Android, iOS
  • Users can copy text with formatting from external sources, such as documents or web pages, and paste it directly into the Zoom Team Chat while retaining the original formatting. Additionally, formatting will be preserved when copying and pasting text within Team Chat, ensuring that the text appears as intended, whether it’s bold, italicized, in lists, or other formatting styles.
  • Mail and Calendar features
  • Add a reply message - Windows, macOS
  • When users RSVP to an event, they have the option to add a reply note to inform the host why they can or cannot attend the event. Additionally, users can include a reply message when they propose a new time for an event. This feature is available for Microsoft, Google, and Zoom calendars.
  • Compose or refine emails with Zoom AI Companion - Windows, macOS
  • Users can access Zoom AI Companion for Mail to enter a prompt and generate emails. When responding to an email thread, users can generate an email using information from the thread and/or an inputted prompt. Users can enable or disable the Zoom AI Companion for Mail integration.
  • Support for the Important label - Windows, macOS, Android, iOS
  • Users can view and filter emails that are important. They can also mark or unmark emails as important as well as arrange inbox sections into Important/Everything Else. Currently, only Gmail supports this feature.
  • Updates to outdated events - Windows, macOS
  • Users will always see the event details whenever they click the event invitation email. Previously, Zoom Mail displayed the following message for outdated events: “This invitation is out of date.”
  • Use dropdown menu to switch between calendars - Windows, macOS
  • Users can leverage the Zoom Calendar dropdown menu to easily switch between multiple calendars. Previously, users had to switch calendars in the Zoom Mail tab's Settings dropdown menu.
  • Propose a new meeting time - Windows, macOS
  • Users have the option to propose a new time that works better for them when they view events on their calendar. This feature is only supported for Zoom and Outlook service calendar clients.
  • Note: This will not be available for Google Calendar.
  • Enable Switch & Join in sidebar and calendar view - Windows, macOS
  • The Switch and Join button is enabled for users in the Zoom Calendar sidebar and main calendar view. Users can switch between concurrent events. Previously, when users joined an event, the join button was disabled for other concurrent events.
  • Email all guests in calendar invite - Windows, macOS
  • When composing an email, a user can email all guests in a calendar invite. The user can also select and remove individual guests from the mail list.
  • Updates to Zoom Calendar scheduler attendee list - Windows, macOS
  • The time selector and attendee list have been updated. The attendee list is moved to the right side and is scrollable.
  • Phone features:
  • Incoming call focus - Windows, macOS
  • If enabled by their admin, users have the choice to opt for either permitting incoming calls to take focus or maintaining their ongoing focus. Existing users will experience no alteration in their behavior after the feature release, with incoming calls prioritizing focus over the application being used. New users will find that the default setting preserves the focus on the application in use when a call is received.
  • Contact Center features:
  • Select camera, speaker and mic - Windows, macOS
  • While in a video engagement, agents and consumers can select the specific camera, speaker and microphone they want to use.
  • Video waiting room drop-in - Windows, macOS
  • Supervisors can drop in to the video waiting room to video chat with a consumer that is waiting. This allows supervisors to assist the consumer that is waiting for an agent. Account owners and admins can customize which roles have access to drop-ins. They can also view the number of drop-ins.
  • UI enhancements to video experience - Windows, macOS
  • The performance and layout of the video display in video engagements has been enhanced. Agents and consumers can also set the video layout to speaker or gallery view, and hide their own self-view video.

  • Hosts can view attendees’ responses to custom questions in the meeting description/event details. Previously, hosts had to access their email to view attendees’ responses to custom questions.

  • Note: The logo must be a JPG/JPEG, GIF, or PNG image file with size smaller than 2 MB.

  • Minor bug fixes

New in Zoom Client 5.15.0.17890 (Jun 20, 2023)

  • Changes to existing features:
  • General availability for Zoom Scheduler:
  • Zoom Scheduler is available for all free and paid users. Zoom Scheduler can be accessed from the Zoom web portal, where you can connect with your preferred calendar services, including Zoom Calendar Service, Google Calendar, or Microsoft 365 Calendar. Users can then create booking links to make their time available for external parties to schedule. Based on the event duration and time, Zoom Scheduler automatically checks against the user's calendar availability to list all the available slots. Users can also customize event notifications and the booking link page.
  • New and enhanced features:
  • User features:
  • Change time zone
  • Users, who are in a different time zone from the organizer, can select the time zone that matches their current geographic locations.
  • Set custom bookable schedule URLs
  • In the Profile settings, users can shorten the default generated URLs and customize their own Zoom Scheduler subdomain.
  • Note: When the Zoom Scheduler URL is changed, all copied links are required to be updated with the new subdomain.
  • Rotating host bookable schedule
  • Rotating host events allow attendees outside of an organization to view the organization team’s availability to schedule events. It also generates slots of availability when any added organizer is available. Users have the capability to create managed events across teams. Users will be attached to each bookable schedule, and only users under the same Zoom admin account will be able to add each other.
  • Aggregate host event type
  • This feature generates slots of availability when all added organizers are available.
  • Resolved issues:
  • Minor bug fixes

New in Zoom Client 5.14.7 (15877) (May 6, 2023)

  • New and enhanced features:
  • Admin features:
  • Control default status of Workspace Reservation calendar events
  • Account owners and admins can enable or disable the option to allow users to control the default free/busy setting of calendar events created by Workspace Reservation or during the booking process. For rooms, this setting is defaulted to busy. For desks, this setting is defaulted to free. When this setting is free, the calendar events created by Workspace Reservation are also set to free; when this setting is busy, the calendar events are set to busy.
  • Note: This feature will be released on May 13, 2023.
  • Add buttons to select hierarchies on Workspaces setting
  • Account owners and admins now have the ability to select hierarchies directly from the Workspaces setting page.
  • General features:
  • Match date/time format with user’s Zoom settings
  • When a user selects a date/time format in Zoom settings, their existing settings will align with the date/time format in Workspace Reservation. Previously, Workspace Reservation used its own date/time format, which didn’t match the user’s selected date/time format from their Zoom settings.
  • Add Check In button to reminder emails
  • A Check In button is included in the email reminder that users receive 24 hours before their reservation. When users receive their email reminder, they can use the button to check in to their workspace reservation.
  • User features:
  • Display auto-release information when reserving workspaces
  • When users reserve a workspace on the web portal, a prompt will appear, informing them that they must complete the questionnaire and check in on time for their reservation. If a questionnaire is not submitted on time or if check-in is not performed on time, then the workspace will be automatically released.
  • Enhancements to Workspace Reservation web portal:
  • When users click their avatar on the floor map, a panel will appear, displaying information about the workspace, where users can instantly delete and check in/check out of their reservation. Users can delete reservations from the floor map by clicking their avatar, then clicking the delete button in the panel. Additionally, when a user clicks their avatar on the floor map, the Check in/Check out button will appear in the panel if the system detects their reservation within the workspace.
  • Workspace check-in reminder chatbot in Zoom Team Chat:
  • Users can select to receive check-in reminders on the Zoom mobile app and desktop client for their workspace reservations through the Workspace Reservation chatbot in Zoom Team Chat.
  • Set free/busy calendar status for Workspace Reservation calendar events
  • When enabled by an account owner or admin, users can control how calendar events (created by Workspace Reservation) appear by setting their calendar status as free or busy. They set the default configuration when they book a room or desk or during the booking process. The default setting (free or busy) for desks and rooms is configurable by users as well as the option to change an event during the booking process. Previously, when a user booked a workspace for an entire workday, the user’s calendar appeared as busy for the entire workday.
  • Note: This feature will be released on May 13, 2023.
  • Resolved issues:
  • Minor bug fixes
  • Security enhancements

New in Zoom Client 5.13.5 (12053) (Jan 17, 2023)

  • Changes to existing features:
  • New meeting chat experience default setting
  • The default for the New meeting chat experience setting is changed to on for most accounts.
  • Breakout Rooms 100 enabled for all accounts
  • The maximum capacity of Breakout Rooms has been increased for all accounts, supporting up to 100 breakout rooms, with a maximum capacity of 1000 in a single breakout room or up to 1000 total among all breakout rooms (depending on account limits). This also affects the pre-assignment limits, raising them also to 100 rooms and 1000 participants. Previously, this increased Breakout Rooms capacity required Zoom enablement.
  • New and enhanced features:
  • General features:
  • Additional MSI/PLIST/GPO/MDM options
  • Set default service used when click-to-dial – ClickToCallDefault
  • Allows admins to choose which Zoom service is used when clicking a phone number to place a call. Admins can choose between Zoom Phone (default) and Zoom Contact Center.
  • Set custom update channel – AU2_UpdateChannelCandidates
  • Empty by default, admins can define additional update channel options. The format should follow <channel ID>:<channel name>, with multiple channels separated by a semicolon. For example: 0:Slow;1:Fast;3:Private Channel
  • Any custom channels must be created in the web portal and require the user be authenticated before the custom channel is recognized, otherwise the Slow channel will be used by default. The default Slow and Fast tracks are always available, even if not included in the policy string. This feature must be enabled by Zoom.
  • Restrict Check for Updates to custom update channel version – AU2_LimitManualUpdateVersion
  • Disabled by default, as well as dependent on AU2_EnableAutoUpdate and AU2_EnableManualUpdate policies, this allows a user to manually check for updates to the desktop client, and if their installed version is lower than the version specified by their update channel (Slow, Fast, custom), they will update to that version instead of the latest version available.
  • Meeting/webinar features:
  • Self enablement of automated captions
  • Meeting and webinar participants can enable automated captions themselves through in-meeting controls. Previously, participants needed to request captions be enabled. The host can still disable automated captions before the meeting through web settings, or during the meeting through caption settings.
  • Interpreter can move language interpretation window
  • Participants assigned to provide audio language interpretation can adjust the location of the window that provides their interpreter controls, to avoid the window obscuring chat notifications.
  • Support for multiple audio input channels
  • Users can enable an additional option under client Audio settings, allowing them to select multiple audio inputs.
  • Support for SIP URI redirects to the Zoom desktop app
  • Windows users can click on a SIP URI provided by another service, which can be opened by the Zoom desktop client and invited into the Zoom meeting automatically. This enhancement allows Windows to recognize Zoom as an app that can open SIP URIs, as well as automating the process of opening a Zoom meeting and inviting the SIP connection.
  • Camera-off avatars:
  • Virtual avatars can be enabled and animated based on user speech, even with video disabled.
  • Transfer Zoom App to local Zoom Room
  • When using a Zoom App on the Zoom app, users can transfer that Zoom App to a local Zoom Room. This can only be done when using Zoom Apps outside of a meeting.
  • Meeting features:
  • Additional enhanced formatting for in-meeting chat
  • Meeting participants can react to messages with emojis and reply in threads to in-meeting chat messages.
  • Continuous meeting chat
  • Meeting hosts can schedule a meeting and invite contacts, which are added to both the calendar event for the meeting and the dedicated Team Chat group chat. This group chat and its messages are accessible before, during, and after the scheduled meeting. This feature must be enabled by Zoom.
  • Create breakout rooms based on poll results
  • When the Allow host to create breakout rooms from poll results setting is enabled, hosts can choose to create breakout rooms based on the participants’ poll answers. For example, the meeting host may want to split breakout rooms based on participants who share similar interests.
  • Waiting room customization support for images
  • The waiting room can support displaying a full-sized image. Images must be PNG, JPG, GIF and be 1 MB or less. Images should be a minimum of 400×200, and while higher resolutions are supported, we recommend images remain within the 2:1 ratio. Previously, hosts could display a small logo image or a video. This requires your account to have the new join flow, which is currently rolling out to customers.
  • Enhanced access to participant attendance status list
  • All participants in a meeting can view the participant attendance status. Previously, only the host and co-hosts could view each participants’ RSVP.
  • Webinar features:
  • Webinar Resources
  • Webinar hosts with a Zoom Events license can provide resource links for their attendees. This provides the ability to link to external resources, such as newsletter sign-ups, learn more pages, and others. Hosts can review the interaction results after the webinar concludes through Reporting.
  • Whiteboard features:
  • Delete and rename whiteboards
  • Users with editor access will have the ability to delete and rename whiteboards.
  • Additional in-meeting whiteboard features
  • Zoom Whiteboard features that were currently only available in out-of-meeting whiteboards, such as additional shapes, kanban boards, templates, and comments, will now be available when in a meeting. In-meeting whiteboards will also have the same rich-text editing features available outside the meeting without the need to update the Zoom desktop client.
  • Access to Zoom Whiteboard dashboard in a meeting
  • Users have the option to view and manage whiteboards they have access to from the Zoom Whiteboard dashboard during a meeting. As long as they have the right permission and the whiteboard is not being shared yet, presenters can share the whiteboard in presentation or collaboration mode, and grant participants access to the whiteboard after the meeting.
  • Phone features:
  • Enhancement to location services
  • If admins disables a location permission for a user, SMS will be blocked for the user for that location.
  • Enhancement to Caller ID
  • If admins prevent their users from blocking their caller ID, then users won’t see the Hide Caller ID as an option on their phones. PWA is not supported at this time.
  • Contact Center features
  • Barge in to video engagements
  • Supervisors can barge in to an engagement using the Active engagements tab. They can easily switch from viewing to barging.
  • Transfer to a video queue
  • Agents can transfer directly to a video queue instead of having to transfer to an individual.
  • Suppress Zoom notifications
  • If enabled by an admin, agents will not receive inbound Zoom Phone or Zoom Meeting notifications while they are in an active voice or video engagement.
  • Waiting Room chat for video engagements
  • Supervisors can chat with consumers currently in a video Waiting Room. When an agent is assigned to the engagement, they will see the Waiting Room chat so they have context on what was discussed.
  • Click to dial
  • Agents can configure the Zoom desktop client with the contact center outbound voice dialer to automatically dial a phone number when the agent clicks on a number formatted with the Tel or Callto protocols.
  • Dark mode support
