realityPaint-Pro Changelog

What's new in realityPaint-Pro 1.0.3.1

May 28, 2013
  • Added Texture Transfer Brush for transferring textures between different UV mappings. This feature is gold! Click here for more information and to watch the video.
  • Added Maximum Smoothing Angle parameter for objects. This feature creates discontinuous normal shading for sharp edges, ideal for rigid low polygon models. Prevents smoothing across right angles, etc. Essential for low polygon/architectural work. Find this feature in the Menu->Manager->Objects->[Object Name]->Maximim Smoothing Angle.

New in realityPaint-Pro 1.0.3.0 (May 28, 2013)

  • Implemented Per Pixel Hidden Surface Removal:
  • It may seem simple enough, but this feature opens up whole new categories of objects that can be painted in realityPaint. Now, low polygon and/or heavily triangulated 3d models can be painted in realityPaint with ease.
  • Previously, for painting low resolution models in realityPaint, it was recommended that you subdivide the model first. However, many models have long, thin triangles which do not subdivide well at all. Per Pixel hidden surface removal now eliminates to determine surface visibility on a per vertex basis. You can now paint on these non-uniform polygonal models with ease.
  • Many object creation workflows like using CAD, Google Sketchup, etc. involve drawing out a curved polygon shape, and then extruding that shape. The result often has long, thin triangles which do not subdivide well at all. Now, with realityPaint, this whole category of objects are at your disposal.
  • Low polygon models for gaming, etc. can now be painted as is, resulting in a true WYSIWYG* workflow, instead of relying on subdivision techniques.
  • We had a Per Pixel hidden surface removal in the past, but it was cut out due to many technical problems. This implementation is much better, simpler, faster, more stable, and works as expected for all 3D models, regardless of UV mapping.
  • Improved Auto UV Mapping in Paint Setup Wizard:
  • For some objects, the polygon groupings would become too close together, resulting in some subtle color spilling at the UV seams. We now improved it so this should not happen anymore. Now, more objects will be Auto-UV Mapping Friendly

New in realityPaint-Pro 1.0.2.12 (May 28, 2013)

  • New feature – The Lasso Selection Tool now has a Freehand option ( on by default). When it is disabled, you can use single clicks to define each point of the path, and press ENTER to complete the selection. This helps to create more precise selections.
  • Drag and drop image maps from the Manager onto the mesh surface re-implemented. After a prompt, the map can be assigned to the material at the location of the drop, or the whole object. NOTE: Drag and drop text name from the manager, not the icon
  • Fixed/tweaked the Saturation Up/Down and Hue Up/Down tools. Previously, the strength of the effect was affected by the primary color or Brush Image color values. Therefore, the color black resulted in no effect. Now, the primary color is ignored ( Brush Image still affects the strength ).
  • Fixed problem with the Highlight Remover type of the Light Adjustment Brush which was attempting to save temporary PNG files.

New in realityPaint-Pro 1.0.2.11 (May 28, 2013)

  • Manual rotate feature added to Rotate View and Rotate Object so you can enter in an exact value to rotate ( e.g. 45 degrees )
  • Implement UV Element type to the Picker selection tool. You can now click on a polygon and select all polygons that are attached in the UV topology.
  • Continuous Zoom option for Zoom View is now remembered from session to session.
  • Drag and drop image maps from the Manager to the Brush Image and Brush Shape boxes. Now you can easily use a pre-loaded ( and recently edited ) map as a Brush Image or Shape in a single step.
  • Brush Tile Presets will remain in sync with Brush Images that were loaded from the manager as long as their name does not change.

New in realityPaint-Pro 1.0.2.9 (May 28, 2013)

  • Solved flickering menu issue when mouse cursor was moved in the viewport
  • Minor tweaks for hotkeying items in the menu, secondary ( middle ) menu now sync better when items that invoke the third menu panel.
  • Set default radius to 1 from 0 in the Bleed UV Seams brush. Use 0 only for bad seams imported from another application.
  • Fixed a bug with the symmetric offset setting. Off-center objects that are otherwise symmetric should now be correctable using the offset value.

New in realityPaint-Pro 1.0.2.8 (May 28, 2013)

  • Performance Enhancements:
  • Made a few optimizations that will speedup performance ( too technical to mention )
  • Bug Fixes and Tweaks:
  • Fixed an issue using the Bleed UV Seams brush, which prevented it from being used “as a brush” when no alpha mask was present
  • Color Picker and Texture Picker now update the interface properly when used.
  • Fixed issues with lighting when NOT using smoothing, in some display modes.
  • Fixed inconsistent lighting when a partial selection is present between the quick, realtime rendering and the full detail rendering.
