Portable EF Find

When you have a large collection of files and folders on your computer, it gets increasingly hard to locate the needed items. While the Windows Search feature can help to some extent, apps like Portable EF Find can trim down your results.

The software comes with a simple, clean interface that shouldn’t be too difficult to figure out, even by inexperienced users.

In order to run a search, you need to input the word and a directory or disk where to look for that certain file. Further options allow you to enable a case sensitive search and to look for entire words.

Also, you can search in compressed files, such as ZIP, RAR, ISO, ZOO, TGZ and ARJ. Some filters can be set up in order to help you find the item faster. Thus, you can define a time interval when the file was last modified or created and an approximate file size. You can also search for archives, folders, and files that are read only, hidden, compressed, encrypted or belong in the System directories.

Whenever a search is launched, certain folders, such as Windows, Recycle Bin, ProgramData and Users, can be excluded.

Portable EF Find can look for files, text and HEX sequences. All files in the search result can be run, viewed, edited, copied or moved. Also, they can be renamed, deleted or emailed to anyone you want.

Users can customize the way the app looks by changing the font type, size, style and color. You can adjust the color scheme. The program’s “Options” menu further lets you define the way the interface looks and which columns to display. Keyboard shortcuts can also be assigned for most tasks.
