Sorcery! 2

The second installment of Steve Jackson' s Sorcery! has just been released and now offers iOS platform users the chance to explore the wretched and dangerous city of Kharé, where scums and villains rule the streets.

If you are among those that have played the first Sorcery!, you will have a feeling on what to expect from the game.

In case you are a newcomer, you should know that if you take on the first installment The Shamutanti Hills, all of your assets (spells, money, equipment and hidden clues) will be loaded into this one.

In this new installment, Khare: Cityport of Traps, players will enter a city where corrupt noble men have the power, murderous thieves threaten the streets and ruthless slavers ruin the lives of people.

As Khare is the only crossing of the Jabaji River, players must gather their courage and move forward through the city in order to recover the Crown of Kings.

The plot is quite similar to the first game, as one needs to cross the city, find clues, fight all that threatens your life, gather what needs to gathered, and finally leave through the northern gate. From there on out, you will be able to continue the search for the Crown of Kings.

Of course, things are not going to be easy, as Sorcery! players already know. Numerous twists and turns will await you, creatures ready to jump at you from behind and murderers that can't wait to take your life.

Speaking of fighting, the combat system is simple but efficient. From the very beginning, you can choose what type of character you want, male or female or you can opt to play with your initial character from Part 1. If you have saved the game, you'll be pleased to know that the entire inventory will again be at your disposal.

Same as before, you can rewind to an earlier position if you have made a mistake that led to some undesired fights or worse, death. A variety of tricky games await players, testing your patience and intelligence.

Each combatant can use his sword as well as more than 48 spells, the game providing a 3D spellcasting system. You have detailed information about every spell, a great feature, especially for newcomers.

Moreover, there are more than 30 different monsters to fight with the game's unique strategic combat. Bear in mind that your Stamina will decrease after every blow so you need to act cautiously and remember from the original game that defending yourself means minus 1 Stamina.

Unlike the Shamutanti Hills, Khare is twice as big, having over 300,000 words and providing 10,000 choices. You will be able to plot your own path and suffer the consequences of your actions.

The game will take players to different places, from sewers to ships and even inside buildings. Therefore, one can see that it comes with new interior maps.

Obviously, just as we've been accustomed, Sorcery! 2 is sprinkled with puzzles and clues, some being quite tough and requiring a few rewinds. Even so, the game brings a rewarding exploratory experience.

The idea is that players must make use of every word in the game, as offhand sayings from the city's inhabitants will turn out to be of help as they advance further in the game. Now, you understand why the double content.

Concerning the visuals, the sequel features the same beautiful, pseudo-3D map, with original illustrations by John Blanche and maps by Mike Schley. It will definitely entertain those that play it for the first time as well as make fans fall deeper in love with the series.

As an overall experience, Sorcery! 2 brings a lot more to the table than the first one, starting from more entertaining and complex villains to a bigger game as a whole. You'll see that you can even go through the Sorcery! 2 multiple times and still be surprised by something.

It is a must for fans, as well as for first-time players. However, one should think of playing it on an iPad so that they can fully appreciate it.

In the same manner, the game is available for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad devices running iOS 5.0 and up. It can be bought for $4.99 / 4.49€ from the App Store.
