Web 2.0 is more than just a phrase coined by O'Reilly Media in 2004 referring to a perceived or proposed second generation of Internet-based services that emphasize collaboration and sharing between more users, such as social networking sites, communication tools, wikis and folksonomies. In the latest months, Web 2.0's concepts are becoming a reality as more and more programs are labeled to be "Web 2.0 applications", and one of them is CodeX Apps Educational Edition, the target I am aiming at this moment.

CodeX Apps is a platform for organizing your data and planning your activity. With it, you can plan things before starting them, execute your tasks just as planned, share your information with the team mates and friends, depending on your activity, as well as archiving the data produced by your work for later retrieval and, of course, for backup purposes. The task of this application is to help you make your work paper-less and centralize your info in a single location, saving as much as possible of your precious time.

CodeX Apps Educational Edition's latest version is 1.4.1229, but on the 21st of January, version 1.5 will become available. The price of this version is 49$ at this time, 30% less than the usual retail price, so it may be a good idea to order now, but not without first seeing what this program is about, of course.

After downloading the package that weighs almost 24MB in size, installing the program shouldn't be much of a problem, although it's not just a drag and drop operation. First of all, you'll have to run the setup package, and then drag the binary to your Applications folder. Once this is done, power up the applications, enter your account data and you're free to go!

CodeX Apps has two major components - the vClipper and the ProjectCenter, but this is only available in the Standard and Enterprise editions. Just so that you know what you're missing, I'll tell you that the Project Center covers the collaborative project management tasks, being powerful yet flexible and featuring built in budget management or financial system.

Now, let's get back to the vClipper. Things are really simple with this component, because all you need to take care of is organizing your personal information using pages. How's that? Pages, you heard me well, just like a notebook!

First of all, you have to create a new page, choose what kind of content you want to add, and then add tags to your page. The content that can be added includes skills, to-do lists, files or images, as well as links to other pages, for the easier progressive study of your work, since with the right linking applied, you can forget about the "Search" function.

Even more than just "pages", you can add Photos & Images, manage your schedule inside an easy to use calendar interface and import additional files to your Inbox.

Once you've finished creating your pages, or even during that process, you may need to print or export them, but that shouldn't be much of a problem, because it's just as easy as one-two-three.

The funny part about this program is that its manual is really detailed, covering every aspect of its use, but all things are so natural when using CodeX Apps, that this manual becomes a welcomed accessory that most people can skip, at least in the first day, although some advanced tasks may require just a little bit of reading...

The Good

CodeX Apps Educational Edition is an application that looks good, is very easy to use and customizable, making personal information management a real pleasure.

The Bad

Unfortunately, the ProjectCenter is not available in the Personal and Educational editions, and I am sure that even a one-day trial would be much better, or a limited version, at least.

The Truth

To be honest, until today, I had no real interest in Web 2.0 or its uses, but CodeX Apps made me curious, and this is a good thing. For those of you already familiar with this, I am sure that this program will be a trustworthy companion at work, at school and, why not, at home.
