Do you need to process large amounts of images on a daily basis? With all the programs that you can use, making simple image transformations should be a piece of cake. But finding an application that does exactly what you need is a whole different thing. For example, you don't need an advanced graphic editor to resize some images or to rotate a group of pictures.

EasyBatchPhoto is a simple and easy-to-use application that lets you resize, convert, rotate and apply watermarks to your pictures. All you have to do is configure the preset that you want to use in order to process your selected group of images.

The Looks

EasyBatchPhoto has a friendly, intuitive user interface made up of several drop-down menus inside the main window, each with its clear function and purpose. You can access the other features of EasyBatchPhoto from the main menu that contains the usual editing functions and also some specific tools of the program.

The Works

As I was saying, with EasyBatchPhoto it's easy to configure the image transformation process. You start by specifying the destination folder and customize the output filenames. EasyBatchPhoto allows to you choose one of the three predefined renaming formats: Prefix + Number + Suffix, Prefix + Original + Suffix, Prefix + Creation Date + Suffix, or you can keep the original names of the images. Although the program provides you with the presented file renaming options, they may prove to be insufficient for some users. For example, I wanted to include both the original name and a number in the output file name; as you can see from the described presets, this is not possible.

If you want to specify a creator for the output files, you can choose a custom application from your computer that will be considered the image creator. Choosing a creator for your output photos makes them open by default with the selected program.

You can customize a series of advanced file options, including to copy non-image files, set the file creation date to camera date (from EXIF), hide the file extension and create thumbnail icons for the images.

In order to get to the image settings, you will have a little bit more work to do. First, you have to decide on the image transformations that you want to perform and create a preset for your current needs.

EasyBatchPhoto provides you with the basic rotation options: 90 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise, 180 degrees or automatic. If you want to use the automatic rotation option, your images must be JPEGs taken with a camera that supports the EXIF orientation tag. For specific cases when you no longer need the original images, EasyBatchPhoto allows you to perform some in-place operations that modify your input files. You can rotate the photos, set their thumbnails as file icons and change their creation dates or modification dates to the date when the picture was taken.

The Scaling feature allows you to choose, from a variety of scaling methods, the one appropriate for your set of pictures. Each method comes with a specific set of parameters that you will be asked to customize. The scaling quality is another aspect that you can decide upon when choosing the interpolation algorithm: if you want the highest image quality, select 'Smoother'; if you're interested in a faster operation and a more focused look, you can use the 'Jagged' algorithm. For a compromise between the image quality and the operation speed, the 'Smooth' setting will perform well for your images.

The output format of the file can be JPEG, PNG or TIFF and you can customize the corresponding details of the selected format: quality, file size, transparency or DPI.

EasyBatchPhoto enables you to apply watermarks to your set of photos and provides you with a wide range of information that you can include in the watermark. For an image overlay, you can select the image, set the watermark position, its opacity and offsets. The EXIF Overlay option gives a list of fields that you can use in the watermark: source file name and dimension, source file size, camera model, focal length, exposure time and others.

If you have to perform repetitive tasks, an extremely useful feature is the possibility to save the current settings configuration as a preset. You can easily add a new preset to the list or load a previously saved one.

When you finished customizing all the processing details, you can move to the last step: drop your images in the box shown in the top-right corner of the window. I find this method of getting the input files more complicated than the usual file list that allows you to add files from various folders. EasyBatchPhoto starts to process the chosen images as soon as you drop them in the box, so you'd better have all the options set by this time.

The Good

EasyBatchPhoto is easy to use and to configure and does its job correctly. The main advantage of this image-transformation tool is that EasyBatchPhoto saves you the time that you normally waste for three different processes: resizing, rotating and watermarking photos. You can do it all in one step.

The Bad

The image renaming possibilities are in some way limited. A method of easily combining all the name components (original name, number, creation date, prefix and suffix) would have been more appropriate. Perhaps establishing some regular expressions for the output file name would make the process flexible enough for the advanced users.

The Truth

EasyBatchPhoto is not suited for professionals or advanced users because of its limited configuration possibilities. But if you find that the program perfectly matches your needs and you're willing to pay 23.95 for it, you can be sure that EasyBatchPhoto will perform the image transformations you need.
