Most of us work with computers on a daily basis. The usage of the copy/paste function has its part, more or less important, according to everyone’s activities. When you copy a file or text, it is temporarily stored in the clipboard. However, the Clipboard only stores one item. On the other hand, a clipboard manager offers you the possibility to hold multiple items and paste them as many times as you want.
AgataSoft Clipboard Manager is a small, easy to use tool, which promises, not only to help you manage your clipboard's content, but also, to ease your work through some interesting hotkeys. Basically, you will be able to assign keyboard shortcuts to your frequently used texts.
If you are a user that uses the copy / paste function a lot, and, moreover, if you work with predefined texts, this clipboard manager will appeal your interest. When launching this application you will observe its intuitive and easy to use interface. All the options of the app are in the application’s tabs. The menu contains only two options, Exit and About.
First of all, you will certainly notice the Action tab that is designed to manage keyboard shortcuts of your frequently used texts. It's quite easy to work with shortcuts, just click on the designated button to perform a certain action.
For each shortcut you will be able to set a name for the action, ideal for later management, the clipboard text that you want to use, and, of course, the hotkey to use. I was pleasantly surprised to see that a large variety of possible combinations is offered.
It's not recommended, however, to store any passwords, given the fact that AgataSoft Clipboard Manager doesn't offer encryption of any sort.
You can even use the media keys, just to be sure that these hotkeys don't interfere with other shortcuts that you use on a daily basis. If you are a keyboard power user you will certainly appreciate it.
The keyboard shortcut feature is the application's major strength. The fact that it enables you to paste a large amount of predefined text with just a keystroke is to be appreciated.
The second tab of AgataSoft Clipboard Manager is the one that has the classic clipboard managing tasks. You will find here a list of all the strings that have been copied / cut over the time. If you know that some of these strings might come in handy later on, this tab is all you need.
The application does not offer any sort of searching tool and that will surely be troublesome when trying to locate a text. We couldn’t find any storage limitation, in what concerns the number on entries it can manage, while testing this application. However, if you are copy / pasting large texts (250 plus pages) it will not be able to manage that much information at a time.
The list will also display some useful data like the date and time at which the entry was created and offer the first phrase from the text, so you can easily identify the text that interests you. The formatting of the initial text is not stored, but the default Notepad formatting is used.
You can check out the whole text by passing the mouse over the field that the application has made. This will help insure you that you have selected the text that is needed. To copy an entry you just double-click it and then paste the text.
The management features resume to the options of deleting a selected entry, or all the entries from the list.
A support for images would have been appreciated, in order to offer a more complete application. However, if your work is limited to copying text, you will find this tool satisfactory.
To customize this software, you must access the Options tab. You can select the application to start when Windows starts, so you`ll be certain that the application is up and running all the time.
Also, if you work with a lot of applications at a time, and don't want to waste space in your taskbar, AgataSoft Clipboard Manager can be set to open in your system tray and monitor your clipboard silently. Discretion is a word that can characterize this program.
Some import and export options are also available. You can save and load custom text templates. Also, you will find the ability to backup and restore the clipboard history quite useful. These two features help ensure that important data is not lost, just in case disaster strikes.
The file type of the backup file is .HSTR or AgataSoft Clipboard manager history, an extension specific to this application. However, you can open it with Notepad in case you need to.
All taken into consideration, this software will allow you to store and use your clipboard's content. The fact that you can create keyboard shortcuts for your frequently used clipboards texts also comes to add value to this application.
You must not forget that this is a tool designed only for managing the text content of your clipboard that can disappoint some users. Those of you who are interested in image support would probably opt for some other application that offers that ability..
