I am a bit absent-minded, and it takes a while to find my files on my computer. Truth be told, I have to look between over 600GB of files, and it is only natural to forget where you keep certain files stored. But that's O.K. Because the Search option in my Total Commander is my ally. But sometimes it runs extremely slow and it takes a while to find what I want.

But I am not too concerned about this. The Internet provides us with the necessary tools to find our files and index them. The name of the software is Index Your Files - Revolution! And the version is 2.22. The developer announces the release of the 2.50 version. The price of the software is $19.95.

The utility of the software needs no presentation, as I am sure that you have already guessed from its name what it does exactly.

The minimalist interface is WYSIWYG and contains only two windows: one for searching for your files and the other for indexing them. At the beginning, I looked for a Help file to see how to use the software, as it presented some problems. After a while, I realized what I have to do in order to search for a certain file.

Before trying to look for a certain file with this software, you have to go to the Index page and enter your computer to be indexed. This can be done by using the New button at the bottom of the application window, on the left. Enter the name of the computer (or any other name) and browse for the folders or drives you want to be indexed. Click OK and hit the Start Index button. Wait for a while and after the indexing is finished, proceed to the search window.

The Search bar is too obvious not to be noticed. Enter the search and press the Search button. Be careful as it is not right beside the Search bar, but a little further to the right. Your search can be customized by file date and file size. You will notice that the Search window is grooved by the grid lines. Some of you may not like that and find it disturbing, so the software provides the means of removing them. The same happens if you do not wish to see the icon of the file.

The sorting options will allow you to find the files faster. The user can sort the files by name, folder, extension, size, date and time and computer. On the right side of the application window, there are some useful functions like opening the folder, copying the files, moving them, deleting or copying the path to clipboard.

At the bottom of the window there is some sort of information bar that displays the number of results, the time the software took to perform the search, the items selected and the size of the selected item.

On the right side of the Index window, the user will find three different windows arranged vertically, all displaying index related information: Index Computer, Total Index Computers and Status Index. The software will also share the index with the computers in the network and can also import and export computers. So, if you find yourself in a local network, you can index the computers and search in them as well.

A very important aspect that I forgot to share with you is that you always have to check the box with the computer name. Skip this and the software will not work.

In the Help menu (if it can be called this way) there are three types of searches presented. You will learn how to perform a more accurate search. It is worth taking a look inside.

The Good

The software is easy to use once you figure out what to do to find your files. The trial period is ninety days.

The Bad

I wish there was a much "healthier" Help menu. Many users may not be familiar with this type of software and how to use it.

The Truth

To be frank with you, I would never pay that money for this software, but this is just my personal opinion, so I recommend using it first. The trial period is more than enough for you to decide whether to buy it or not.
