I don't know about the others, but since I was a child, one of my dreams was to travel in time. I know that this is still far enough from becoming reality - which is maybe much closer than we all believe - but I know I won't get to see this dream of mine coming true, at least not the way I imagined and I still do.

If you can't drink regular beer, then sometimes the one without alcohol can be just fine, so I will talk about a substitute for time travel today. Well, some of you may say I am not right to call it this way, and they may be true, but having a virtual calendar able to tell me when I should be 1500 years old is enough for me to call such a program "time travelling software". Of course that there are a lot of things to discover apart from my 1500th anniversary, so let's get down to business!

The program I am talking about here is called Millennia Calendar, its latest version is 2.0.3 and what I have here is a trial version that came to me inside a 2.5MB installation package. It was very easy to setup this program, and I am sure that nobody can have problems with this step. The trial period is 14 days long, and if you want to continue using the program, you'll have to pay 24.95$ to obtain a license.

To sell, real life calendars have to be as attractive as possible, and those having bikini top models on them are the best hits usually, but this time it's not that way. Millennia Calendar has an interface that looks a bit outdated to me, but you don't come here to have a shiny 3D interface. The purpose of this program is to deliver useful information, and obtaining it is an easy goal to achieve.

The program starts up with a list of locations, their current time, time zone, day of the week, date and calendar they are using. In some cases, there can be two calendar types available for a single location (for example Rome, Italy's capital, where both Julian and Gregorian calendars are used). Unless you don't want this to happen, the hour for all the locations in the list is updated in real time, but the all around the world clock feature is nothing compared to the rest...

For example, let's take a day like all the others. What can we find out about it? Right click a location and choose Show Calendar (of course, you can also press Ctrl+D or use the command from the Calendar menu?it's your choice). First of all, you get the view of the current month which contains a nice panel that allows you to quickly change the year from -4713(4713BC) to 3000. Awesome! Next, you can check the events for the calendar you're using and the astrological data of the sun, moon and planets from the Solar System.

The first manager available in this program helps you manage events and apply day, week and year corrections - the Events Manager, while the Locations Manager lets you change settings for various locations.

The data you get from this program can be saved as HTML or CSV files, and if you run into trouble, you can check the excellent documentation that comes with it. Now, it's my time to draw the conclusions.

The Good

Millennia Calendar is a great program, and the fact that it gives you the power to get to know better all the major calendars used on the planet at this time, including Egyptian, Islamic or Hebrew or track astronomic and religious events is enough to make it an excellent companion.

The Bad

It's a pity that you have to pay for this program, although it's worth the price, and the interface could be just a little bit friendlier. Apart from these, some schedulers and reminders added as features would be great!

The Truth

I have only one word to say about Millennia Calendar: excellent. Don't ask for reasons, just get your hands on it and let the magic begin!
