  • Recovers files emptied from the Recycle Bin

It happened to me more than once to delete files or folders that I shouldn't have. I am sure that I am not the only one who happened to do such unfortunate things, and also not the only one looking for a solution to such problems...

When a file is deleted from your hard drive, it goes usually to Recycle Bin, but those are easy to recover. The other files you think are gone forever are still there, until you overwrite the area of the drive taken up by their data with new files and folders. In the end, recovering recently delete files is very easy to do...but of course, you need the right tools for the job.

The file recovery tool I have here for you today is called MultiStage Recovery and the version I have here is labeled 1.6. The full program costs 49.95$, but what I have here is a shareware version, as usual. The installation kit is only 1.1MB in size and the setup process is very easy to complete. Now, let's find out more about this program's interface and features, shall we?

MultiStage Recovery has a simple and useful interface that contains the usual menu bar, a toolbar with five nice icons and a work area split into a drive tree view and the file view area. There's nothing special about it, this is just a regular Windows interface I get to see every day, but it does its job, and this is what matters before everything else.

Operating this program is very easy, despite the fact that you don't have any wizard to help you. Once you start it for the first time, the available drives from your system are displayed inside the Drives pane. You can choose hard drive partitions, floppy disks or USB devices to scan. Once the scanning process is complete, you can start recovering deleted files.

The recovery process is very easy to perform, all you have to do is select the deleted items and then choose Restore from the contextual menu that appears when you right click inside the file view area and then choose the destination folder for restoring. This is it.

Of course that there are some extra options available here too, like the file information viewer or the useful ability to save boot sectors for later recovery, if needed. I'll leave the rest of it for you to discover, since there's not much extra. Now, let's jump to the conclusions!

The Good

MultiStage Recovery is a small and easy to use basic data recovery program that can prove very useful in some situations.

The Bad

The program's price is way too high for the features it offers, and this is enough to make me look for another recovery solution. The shareware version has a size limitation for the files it can recover, but that's not clearly specified on the producer's website or inside the About screen.

The Truth

If you have the time, try this program, and you may find it useful, but for me it's something too expensive, so I'll move on.
