One of the most important things to have in today's world is information. Thanks to it human lives are saved every day, natural disaster's effects can be minimized, and daily tasks are easier than a century ago.

I will not talk about that kind of information destined to save our lives and keep us safe from danger. Last review today is going to be about a program that can help you gain almost as much information about your computer as possible. It may not save your life, but it may save you from a lot of trouble (think about calling a tech support line, for example, and not being able to tell what kind of mainboard you own, or the frequency of your CPU).

The program is called MvPCinfo, it reached version 2.1.1.1 and comes packed in an archive, ready to go, like a dog on a leash. The ZIP archive containing the application's files has under 2MB in size, so downloading and unpacking it to a folder on your hard drive shouldn't be much of a problem.

First run of the program will take a bit of time, since it will detect all system devices. Before you run it, you may want to control the items that you will be shown. In the folder where you unpacked the archive you will find a program called "mvPCinfoCfg" that was built especially for this purpose, to help you configure MvPCinfo. With it you can set the general options, the details for the program's reports or customize the look of the interface.

Let's get to the main program now. What can it help us find out?

The Station area has gathered most information about your computer's hardware and software, with as much details as possible, but without rendering useless the areas dedicated to each of them. For example, you can view here your computer's name, model or type, processor and BIOS information or details about your hard drive(s) and partitions.

There are areas that can provide information about your CPU, Pci & AGP devices, peripherals and many more. I will tell you now about few of the other interesting areas to be found in this program.

First, we have three useful areas about the NT services, accounts and events. Unfortunately you can't stop system services or change available profiles, but you can view all of them. In the future I hope to see the editing functions present here; those would be a great strong point for this program!

The Add/Remove Programs information can also be viewed, but without the chance to uninstall existing programs or to remove invalid entries.

The last two features that I will tell you about now are the scanners. No, MvPCinfo won't scan for trojans and worms, but can perform scans on the network or the internet. For example, the LAN scanner will search your network for other computers and display their IP, name, description, MAC address, OS or shares!

This program is nice to review and talk about, and the best thing that you can do is get it now, you can check all the information it gives you for free, and then decide if you want to buy it or not.

The Good

MvPCinfo is a small, easy to use and very useful application. It even has a few special features that you can't see in most system information tools, such as the LAN or the Port scanners. The price is fair and you get a 2-year free upgrade period after your purchase.

The Bad

While testing it, the application became completely jammed once, and areas like Region or Desktop wouldn't refresh. For a commercial application like this, the Help system has a long road ahead to catch up with the rest of the package.

The Truth

As usual, I wasn't expecting something new or special, and it seems I was wrong again. The software market is full of good products, and fortunately, MvPCinfo is one of them.

If you need information about your computer, search no more! The trial version of this program won't allow you to save the reports about your computer, but it has all the other features of the full application, so don't wait any longer, get it now!

Here are some snapshots of the application in action:
