Tired Of Your Old Windows Notepad?

  • Integerated text-to-PDF convertor!

I am tired of the default Windows text editor Notepad. It's not the size limitation it has or its lacking features, but sometimes it gets really boring to use the same program for such an easy task like text editing and you start feeling the need for something new...and as soon as possible!

There are a lot of text editors around, some of them as small and featureless as possible and others, like UltraEdit, ready to take care of all your needs (I wouldn't be surprised if they would turn it into a file manager-audio player-text & graphics editor software...). Today I will review a free, small and well-featured text editor.

Notepad Pro is far smarter than its "brother" included in the Windows operating system. What it has to offer, we shall see next.

After running the very small setup program, I asked myself "what is this?". I must be honest, I have never seen before a text editor like it!

There are a lot of things to do with this program and only few to be said, the best way is to use it and find them for yourself, but I will try to point out some of its great features for you.

I never found such a small text editor able to export PDF files... until now. You can set the file properties such as Author Name, Keywords, Subject and Title. Unfortunately I found only three available fonts to be set, but I don't think this should be such a big problem.

Nice things come in packs with this program, and another goodie is the experimental keylogger mode. The name says it all, and despite its attribute, it works perfectly. You enable this mode and then leave the program running in background. You will have all your pressed keys written down inside the text editor's open file...nice, isn't it?

You want to convert your text to a cool style? You can choose from two styles, and even set your program language to... HaXor style. These are things that you must try, it's no use telling you about how your text will look after you perform the changes...

There aren't many settings available, but they are useful. Text font, current skin, transparency level and program interface language are the most important settings that can be changed from the Preferences window.

What more? Let's see... does "command line arguments handling, drag and drop support, multiple instances, low memory requirements and keyboard shortcuts for almost everything that you can do with it" sound good?

I'll leave this nice little program for you to discover and use to the full extent of its features. It was a pleasure reviewing it and I strongly recommend you to check it out as soon as possible!

The Good

Notepad Pro is small, has an original, easy to use interface and lots of useful features - it's skinnable, can export to PDF, control your WinAMP or be used as a keylogger.

The Bad

Its skin size is fixed, so you can't enlarge the editor while running. Sometimes it may get a bit strange to edit larger documents in such a small window and get a scroll bar after the first paragraph...

The Truth

Notepad Pro is the most original text editor that I have seen so far. Apart from being extremely small and full of useful features, I can only remind you one thing: get it while it's still free!
