I must admit that I am so happy with PSPad that searching for another text editor looks ridiculous, but I see nothing wrong in just reviewing another text editing tool. Searching for the programs with the best user ratings around, I found something that would have otherwise been lost in the crowd. If this is really worth its rating, this is what we shall see next, so let's go!

The text editor that I found to have a clean five rating after fourteen votes at this time is called Taditor. Its latest version is labeled 1.40.6 and what I have here is a 30 days trial version. Yes, it's not a mistake, I wrote "trial", and the price of the program is 27$. The installation kit has 1.5MB in size and setting up the program is as easy as one-two-three.

The program's interface is not outstanding, but I can't say it's bad either. What I see is a regular Windows interface with a toolbar containing good looking icons, and of course that multiple file editing is supported. There aren't any skins to be applied to this interface, but if you dig into the available options, you will find a lot of customization settings.

Taditor is a unicode text editor with hex edit mode and support for HTML/XML charset, so it can edit virtually any file type. Obviously, the program supports syntax highlighting and has a very interesting feature that allows you to control text flow (available options are left-right, right-left and vertical).

If you're going to edit HTML files, there aren't many features to help you replace your current HTML editor with Taditor, but you have an excellent internal browser to use for previewing your work. If you want to insert special characters, then you can use the character map easily.

This program can use external spellcheckers it finds in your system, and in my case, it used the OpenOffice's one, with good results. Even more than this, you can use the Thesaurus feature to get your writing as close to perfection as possible!

Have problems with large files? As I can see in the excellent documentation that comes with this program, it seems that files with sizes over 100GB are supported, but I can't test this feature, because I don't have at least a partition of that size...not to mention the fact that I have never seen a file larger than 4-5GB in my entire life, but it would be extremely interesting to find out about the result if one of you dares to test this size limit!

Do you have problems with your eyes? It's not something that I enjoy, but I do, so zooming is very important sometimes. Changing font size can be annoying for other people who don't have my problems and get to read my documents, and Taditor has two nice zoom buttons on the toolbar to take care of that without changing font size.

If you want more, then you got it - an internal scripting engine for writing macros, support for regular expressions, an internal integer calculator and many more. All these are waiting for you to discover them, so don't wait any longer!

The Good

Taditor is a highly customizable unicode text editor with a lot of features, excellent documentation and easy to use. The trial version doesn't have any functional limitations, and if it would only be free...

The Bad

Of course that this program's greatest problem is the price, although considering the features it offers, it can't be called really expensive, but I can't forget about PSPad a single moment, and this is the big problem with commercial programs - to be competitive in my eyes, every commercial program that I see must be above its best free competitor.

The Truth

If you want to pay for your text editor, then go ahead and try Taditor. I tried it, I liked it, but I would never spend a single penny on such a program. Anyway, it's free to try for a month, so dare to taste it!
