Microsoft has released this month’s update for Office Mobile apps on Windows devices as part of the Insider program, with new features targeting Excel and OneNote.

The new versions of the Office Mobile apps are as follows: Word Mobile (17.7870.4773), Excel Mobile (17.7870.5025), PowerPoint Mobile (17.7870.4264) and OneNote for Windows 10 (17.7870.5762).

This month’s update includes improvements for Microsoft Excel that makes it possible to open more files, with Microsoft explaining that users can now “open even more file types than before, including files that contain legacy drawing objects.”

OneNote is getting many more improvements, and it all starts with password protection, a feature that was recently released for the universal app version published in the Store too. You can thus configure passwords for your notes by simply right-clicking the notebook in the app.

Additionally, OneNote is getting options to change layer order, create diagrams or flowcharts on tablets with support for circles, squares, and arrows, new paragraph handles, and tools to reorder notebooks and save images and files that are included in your notes.

While these updates are only available for insiders for the time being, everyone should be getting the full pack of improvements in the coming days or weeks, depending on how fast bug fixing advances. All new versions will be shipped through the store and we’ll let you know when they become available.
