The first time multimedia entertainment entered your lives, it was in the form of the simple cathode ray tube TV. Then, when 5.1 speaker setups appeared we were amazed about sounds that seemed to come from all around us. Now in the digital age, there are software solutions that enable you to hear those sounds, and even more, with just one set of speakers.

One such software solution is Dolby Access, an application that once installed gives you access to a trial period of Dolby Atmos, Dolby Laboratories' latest surround sound technology.

Once Dolby Access is installed, it prompts you to install Dolby Atmos. All you have to do is modify your headphone settings to use it as the default spatial sound format in the "Speaker properties."

To showcase the positive changes this new format brings, Dolby Access gives you access to a gallery of online multimedia files which were created using this particular new technology. As you will notice yourself, the videos are relatively new and diverse, from game and movie clips to Demo content made specifically to showcase Dolby Atmos' new capabilities.

One thing worth mentioning is that while viewing these videos, you are automatically put in full-screen, and are unable to exit until the video is over. A workaround would be to manually click the end of the video's timeline.

During our testing, while watching Dolby-supported videos, it was discovered that the sounds indeed are more immersive, realistic and of a higher quality. Also, during gameplay, Dolby Access allowed the pinpointing of teammates, enemies, and obstacles more easily. Taking that into consideration, this software program is excellent for anyone who wants to have a competitive edge and more intense gaming experience.

All things considered, it doesn't matter if you love to feel the music enveloping you, want to feel as if you're inside your favourite movie, or need to tell where the enemy is just from the sound of their footsteps, Dolby Access is an excellent tool that will bring a whole new audio experience to your ears.
