Safe In Cloud is not just another plain and simple password manager. Over the course of our tests, we have learned that it sports a comprehensive set of features and tools designed to ensure the user's security and peace of mind toward a digital environment that keeps all private information in one place.

This free program is highly intuitive and can be handled by any users, whether they are hardcore or just casual. It is wrapped in a clear-cut interface that puts a lot of emphasis on data safety. At the same time, it gives you the possibility to customize a lot of its settings to meet your requirements.

Installation, database setup, interface

Setting up this software application is an easy job performed rapidly and with minimal intervention. This is not mentioned anywhere, but Safe In Cloud integrates an entry in the Windows boot sequence, so it automatically starts running at every system startup until told otherwise.

Once the app is launched, it is necessary to set up a database just indicating a password. A weak password detector makes sure you assign a highly secure key made from a combination of lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols.

As far as the interface is concerned, Safe In Cloud adopts a simple and elegant look. The password management system consists of cards which can be added to the list for codes, credit cards, email accounts, identity cards, passports, insurance, login credentials, memberships, or web accounts. Several samples are provided to help you get started.

Add cards and fill in information

It is possible to write a lot of useful details associated with a card, such as email address, password, website, notes, attached images, phone numbers, dates, and PINs. You can add as many extra custom fields as you want, change their order in the list, assign labels and symbols to seamlessly identify cards later, duplicate, delete or print them, send them via email directly, edit their properties, change their color, as well as mark cards as favorites to quickly access them from a favorites list. A search function is available.

Apart from cards, you can create separate notes with attached photos. Data can be exported to XML, CSV or TXT format. However, when it comes to importing databases, Safe In Cloud is incredibly versatile, offering support for 95 sources such as Dashlane, FileZilla, Kaspersky Password Manager, KeePass, LastPass, Norton Identity Safe and RoboForm.

Configure cloud synchronization

Before Safe In Cloud is able to synchronize data to the cloud, it is necessary to customize settings. By default, synchronization is disabled and can be enabled for Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive, provided that you have a registered account which must be authenticated.

Additional settings and tools

Other program options are put at your disposal for modifying too. By default, the tool automatically locks when its window is not currently active (e.g. when switching to another app) and you can adjust the auto-lock time or disable it.

Safe In Cloud can also be asked to empty the Clipboard and to erase its contents if the user fails to successfully log in with the master password after more attempts (ranging from 5 to 25). Alternatively, you can manually erase all app data and settings with one click. The database can be backed up to file (DB format) and restored later.

In addition, you can switch to another UI language, remove Safe In Cloud from the Windows autostart sequence, disable the weak password detector, deactivate automatic checkups for software updates, change the database key, as well as generate a random password after defining rules (e.g. length, random or memorable characters).

The Good

The software application worked smoothly on Windows 8.1 Pro during our tests, without causing the operating system to hang, crash or pop up error messages. OS compatibility extends to Windows XP, Vista and 7.

It is cross-platform (Windows, Mac OS X, iOS and Android) so you can access the secret database from any supported device running these operating systems, provided that you have a Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive account.

If the browser extensions for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are installed (and if the Safe In Cloud desktop client is also installed), you can easily log into online accounts by just selecting a card from the passwords database.

After creating a database, you can populate it with multipurpose cards (e.g. email accounts, credit cards, PINs), labels and notes, attach images, create a favorites list, and export information to XML, CSV or TXT-formatted files.

Data can be imported from 95 sources, and the database is password-protected. The tool can automatically lock itself when it's not the currently active app. It features a weak password detector, random password generator with custom rules, along with a self-erase option for failed password attempts. You can manually erase everything with one click.

Those who want to skip the installer, keep the app safely stored on a pen drive and directly launch it on any computer without any additional installations may resort to its portable counterpart, Portable Safe In Cloud.

Both desktop and mobile versions are free to use.

The Bad

Although this is not mentioned in the installer, Safe In Cloud automatically runs at Windows startup until further notice. Needless to say, you are not given the possibility to disable this option during setup.

The Truth

Taking everything into account, Safe In Cloud proves to be a highly versatile password manager with data sync abilities, support for many popular platforms, and many extra useful features.
