Adobe rolled out the beta for Flash Player 11.8, which announces the introduction of recursive stop on MovieClip, a feature that should come in handy to game developers.

The new function practically permits the developer to pause or stop a running SWF item without having to iterate through all of the objects on the DisplayList.

The method that enables this action is called “stopAllChildren” and has been added to DisplayObjectContainer ActionScript class.

As its name also implies, its purpose is to stop timeline animations of MovieClip objects that are children of the DisplayObjectContainer.

If the background update function is enabled, beta versions for Flash Player are delivered automatically to the user.

Adobe AIR 3.8 beta has also been released and includes new features. Among them is LZMA support, which allows SWFs compressed with this algorithm to be packaged and are supported on Android and iOS platforms.

The full set of changes for AIR 3.8 beta is available here.
