The next app update will pack several major improvements

Classic Shell will soon undergo a major makeover that will include significant changes, such as support for the Windows 7 Start Menu style.

While also working flawlessly on Windows 8.1 Preview, the application is said to drop the Windows Vista release once the new version comes out, according to a report by gHacks.net.

The new build is specifically designed to make Microsoft’s operating system a bit more familiar, so version 4.0 contributes to this purpose with the standard Windows 7 Start Menu design. The search box will be offered in the same Start Menu, just like it happens in the original Windows 7 style.

Some of the features that will be part of the 4.0 release are already implemented in Classic Shell 3.9.0 beta, so, in case you wish to try out the application right now, make sure you get this version.
