F-Secure released DNS Check, a tool designed specifically to scan your computer and detect if the DNS settings have undergone malicious modifications. If this is the case, the instrument can restore the DNS configuration to a clean state.

With new discoveries about “Flame” Trojan and the origin of Stuxnet grabbing news titles lately, information about DNSChanger botnet can be easily overlooked.

But the fact is that FBI’s authorization to run substitute DNS servers is set to expire in July and Google estimates that of 500,000 instances of DNSChanger are still loose. This means that about half a million computers will be cut off from the Internet when the FBI ceases to control the substitute DNS servers.

You can avoid this by checking if your computer is part of the botnet (now under FBI control) and resetting the DNS configuration with DNS Check.
