Gauss – the state-sponsored financial espionage malware – has made a lot of headlines in the past few days and security solutions providers are rushing to release tools that remove the threat from computers. Bitdefender is one of those companies.

“The resemblance to Flamer leads us believe that the newly-discovered Gauss may also be a state-sponsored cyber-weapon,” Catalin Cosoi, Chief Security Research at Bitdefender, explained.

“This prompts us about the fact that cyber-warfare is moving into the financial sector: tracing the origins and destination of money, and who is funding what operations.”

The security firm has released an easy-to-use tool that’s designed to scan systems for any traces of Trojan.Spy.Gauss.Gen. The application performs a quick check and in case it identifies the threat, it removes it from the computer.
