On Friday, Microsoft made available for download a new application to provide developers with the possibility to interface with qualified 3-rd party applications built on the Lync Software-Defined Networking API, namely Lync SDN API 8679.2.

Through it, qualified software will benefit from data necessary to monitor, isolate and correct issues on the network, so as to ensure that they do not affect the Lync Quality of Experience.

Available for Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and Windows Server 2012 systems with .Net 3.5 or higher, the application requires a valid Lync license for Lync Server 2010 or Lync Server 2013.

As Microsoft notes, Lync Server 2010 / 2013 can offer a great unified communications and collaboration experience, but the Quality of Experience can be affected by network elements that do not work properly, especially since Lync relies heavily on the underlying network.

Here’s where the Lync SDN API comes into play, providing customers of Lync Server 2010 and 2013 systems and qualified 3-rd party applications with the possibility to detect quality affecting issues on the network and come up with prescriptive resolutions.
