Ikarus engine dropped on account of false positives

Emsisoft announced today the availability of the public beta for version 7.0 of Anti-Malware, the company’s dual-engine security product.

The big news about it is that Ikarus scan engine has been dropped because of generating false alerts, in favor of Bitdefender’s scanning solution, which is touted to run more efficient scans and to have a better detection rate. The first engine, A2, has undergone improvements as well, and in this release it should run faster.

Enhancements also touch on the real-time protection component, in terms of performance, as the active guard should use less system resources.

Emsisoft Anti-Malware 7.0 brings to the table optimized cleaning so that the registry entries affected by threats can be restored.

The new release is currently available as a streamed update to customers with a valid license for Anti-Malware, if beta updates are activated.

Update: Bitdefender's signatures will also be used in the upcoming Anti-Malware 7.0, in combination with  Emsisoft's proprietary A2 engine and signatures.
