Ford’s board recently held a meeting to discuss the future of its CEO Alan Mulally, tipped by many as the leading candidate for the CEO seat at Microsoft.

According to a report by AP, members of the board declined to reveal any details from the meeting, but spokesman Jay Cooney explained that Mulally’s plan to remain at Ford through late 2014 is unchanged.

Microsoft is expected to announce a new CEO by the end of the year, with people familiar with the matter hinting that both Mulally and former Nokia boss Stephen Elop are on the shortlist for the new role.

While Ford has denied to comment on rumors that Microsoft is already talking to Mulally on a possible switch to Redmond, more and more sources claim that the man in charge with the American carmaker is actually very interested in taking over from outgoing CEO Steve Ballmer.
