A public announcement should be made by December, he adds

Rick Sherlund, a Nomura analyst focused on Microsoft’s business, says that Ford’s boss Alan Mulally is very likely to be the new CEO of the software giant.

The analyst said in a note to clients on Wednesday that Mulally was very likely to agree with Microsoft’s terms and make the switch to Redmond as soon as December.

While this is indeed possible given the fact that Mulally could be the turnaround man that Microsoft needs to continue its road towards bigger profit, it also contradicts previous reports claiming that negotiations could take a little bit longer and the new CEO would be announced in early 2014.

Reuters reported yesterday that Microsoft’s CEO shortlist had come down to only five names, including Mulally, Nokia’s former CEO Stephen Elop, and Satya Nadella and Tony Bates, both internal candidates.

As usual, Microsoft does not comment on these rumors, but expect more details to be unveiled in just a few months, as the CEO search is close to coming to an end.
