While reports are now suggesting that Microsoft might even bring Ford’s boss Alan Mulally on board, analysts believe that Redmond should look inside the company for the next CEO.

Stephen Elop, who previously served as Nokia CEO and is now joining Microsoft as part of the acquisition of the phone maker, is the right choice for this role, Kevin Walkush, an analyst at Jensen Investment Management, which holds Microsoft shares, was quoted as saying by SCMP.

Basically, Walkush claims that Elop has what it takes to rescue Microsoft because he previously worked for the software giant, while also coming with fresh ideas from outside the company.

“People are looking for Microsoft to go through some dramatic change. He has a very good understanding of what happens at Microsoft and he has made hard decisions in the face of big challenges. It's a pretty strong combination,” he said.

According to people close to the matter, Microsoft is said to announce Steve Ballmer’s successor by the end of the year.
