Microsoft has announced at the BUILD developer conference that Foursquare is now building its very own Windows 8 application that would be available through the Store.

Even though no specifics have been provided on the release date, Microsoft claims that the Windows 8 tablet app will “go beyond check-ins to use location data in a beautiful way,” and thus help adopters of its latest operating system find places and things to do in a specific location.

“People want to experience and explore the world around them, and the Foursquare for Windows 8 app helps them do that. It makes it fun to search for a place for dinner or to go out, and helps people discover new experiences. We’ve worked with Microsoft on a bunch of initiatives over the years, and this product is another example of the great things we can do together,” Dennis Crowley, co-founder and CEO of Foursquare, was quoted as saying.

The app will be offered free of charge and will most likely be compatible with both desktop and tablets running Microsoft’s new Windows 8 and Windows RT.
