Just a fake, he said in a very short tweet

Yesterday, we came across a screenshot that allegedly showed the next Windows 10 build number that could be released to users, and some people claimed that this particular version already showed up in Windows Update on a number of computers.

Obviously, some thought that this might actually be the January Technical Preview expected to see daylight later this month, but when asked about the veracity of this information, Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider group, said that this was all fake.

As we told you in our initial report yesterday, there was no indication that the picture was real or fake, but if we trust Gabriel Aul, someone tried to trick people into believing that Microsoft prepared build 9913 for a public release.

But despite Aul’s statement, there’s still something fishy about this build. Version 9913 still shows up in BuildFeed and also seems to be part of the awesome branch, which means that at least at some point it was expected to be released to users.

Obviously, there’s plenty of room to speculate on this build right now, but it’s better to wait and see what happens in this case because Microsoft is expected to reveal a new build of Windows 10 in a couple of weeks.

Redmond will be holding an event on January 21, and at that time, things should become a bit clearer for Windows 10 users.
