Google released new major versions for the Dev and Beta channel of Chrome. The builds are available for all supported platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chrome Frame) and bring to the table important modifications.

In the case of the Dev, the version number is 22.0.1201.0 and the most significant change is reserved for Mac users, who will require OS X 10.6 or higher to use it. Thus, it is safe to assume that when this turns into a stable release, it will not be available for OS X 10.5 or lower.

However, the really great improvements and closer to the user are the ones in the Beta release (21.0.1180.15) and consist in two new APIs: getUserMedia API and the Gamepad JavaScript.

The first one allows for high-quality video and audio communication on the web, as it lets users grant web apps access to their camera and microphone without a plug-in. The second touches on gaming and allows developers to access input from any standard gamepad connected to the user’s system.
