Microsoft produced only few Bands for the launch

Microsoft Band was released in late 2014 and the device was quickly sold out, with the Redmond-based tech giant bragging about how successful it got in such a short time.

And yet, it appears that this early success was not all about the consumer appeal of the Microsoft Band, but was also more or less determined by the company itself and the number of units that were initially made for the public launch.

WinSuperSite writes that only 30,000 units were initially produced by Microsoft, so it's easy to see how the Band got sold out so quickly. Microsoft Band was first launched in the United States and Canada, and is now set to arrive on more markets this month, including in the United Kingdom.

And although it could sound like unfair practice from Microsoft, it's not. With few units initially produced, the company was only trying to test the market and see if a Band can sell. If everything was going well, and it did, the company planned to order more units and expand availability on more markets across the world. Which is happening right now.

Redmond has refused to comment on production numbers, but it says that “we have seen a great response to the Microsoft Band,” confirming that it's indeed selling like hot cakes.

The Microsoft Band is a smart wristband that can help wearers stay in tip-top shop by tracking exercises, heart rate, and burned calories, while also providing communication tasks when paired with iOS, Android, and Windows devices.
