Microsoft is going through a major transformation process that’s supposed to push it closer to devices and services, but that’s not at all considered a setback by its shareholders.

Jonathon Jacobson's Highfields Capital has recently decided to increase its Microsoft stake by six times, which means that now it owns 31 million shares in the Redmond-based technology giant.

Reuters is reporting that the transaction took place during the third quarter, but no official announcement has been released on this.

In the meantime, Redmond continues the search for a new CEO, with some recent reports claiming that the Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner is very close to be appointed the new company leader.

On the other hand, sources familiar with the matter indicate that Ford’s boss Alan Mulally has many more chances to take over from Ballmer by December, even though he has strongly denied such a possibility.
