Microsoft is working to create a mix of the Metro UI and the desktop in modern Windows versions, and it is making the first steps towards this new direction with Windows 8.1 Update 1.

In addition to allowing Metro apps to be launched in separate windows, the company has also implemented some new changes that make the taskbar available on demand at basically any time when working on the operating system.

No matter if you’re running a Modern app or you’re on the Start screen, you can now call the taskbar by simply moving the mouse cursor at the bottom of the screen where you can usually find it on the desktop.

The taskbar automatically shows up and lets you launch another app or simply go to the desktop with just one click, so this new option is clearly supposed to improve the experience with the Modern UI on a classic keyboard and mouse configuration.
