JTG Daugherty is just another NASCAR team that decided to use Windows 8 tablets in cars to tweak the performance of their engines instead of carrying multiple devices for collecting data.

The team’s IT admin, Matt Corey, said in an interview with InformationWeek that the transition to Windows 8 isn’t so difficult as you might be tempted to believe, and features such as cloud access and note sharing options make it a lot easier to work on performance.

“Sometimes they communicate by tapping in notes, sometimes using a stylus to draw, or sometimes using the tablet's camera to take a picture,” Corey explained.

“[Adapting to Windows 8] went a lot smoother than expected,” he added, while admitting that some team members needed additional training to get used to Dell’s Latitude 10 tablets.

Windows 8 is currently installed on approximately 5 percent of computers worldwide, but Microsoft expects the new OS to take off very soon, as the 8.1 update is set to hit the market in the coming months.
